WJC Group A: Dec 29 GDT - Norway vs. Canada

Oh my friend, I'm afraid it has. I admit that I'm not getting any younger but I sure can remember Paul Romaniuk was whining just like Pierre is. There was a Swedish referee, I believe his name was Andersson and let me tell you, he was worse than this.

Granted, this still isn't good. Its just that its not like the reffing in say, 1992 was much different, imo.

And if the Norway had a lot of fans on this board, the complaining would be even greater, as he's been probably even worse for them.

I'm not really complaining as a team Canada supporter, but more as a fan of hockey in general. This ref has sucked the life out of this game.

If you dont like what you see, change the channel. If your team cant play without taking penalties, perhaps they shouldnt play. What else can I say, standard rules... which are NOT going to change based on the location of the tournament.

C'mon, Slitty, you can't actually believe what you're saying. There is no excuse for phantom calls. They're not in any standard rulebook I've ever seen.
 
Don't tell me sightings about bigfoot can't be true,i just saw Pokulok on the ice.They told me he did'nt really exist,he was just a myth.Turns out it was'nt true,he does.

There are a few bad calls every game, but I've never this many. The number of penalties being called says it all.

Its about time. He should be getting a few shifts here and there. If one of the top 6 get hurt, they can't have this guy come in cold.

I think the sheer number is due to the fact that the IIHF has chose to call the new "nhl rules". It is an adjustment for the refs, as well. I know it was for the NHL guys, so it should be the same for these guys. I'd imagine that there may be some confusion on their side, as well.
 
pierre's right,this team is a tad offensively challenged.They are bad in their shot selection,tentative to shoot,and seem to lack natural finishing skills for the most part.They'll have to play great defense to win it all.

This the world championship, not a peewee tournament. Now isn't the time for confusion. This guy is calling routine, clean hits. It has nothing to do with the new NHL.
 
Seriously... are they allowed to hit in Europe? Cause I don't get these "charging" penalties. And O'Mara got tossed too.

Its true man. They need to shoot the puck. I've picked on Latendresse a number of times already, but I'll say this----at least he shoots. Somebody's got to get a hold of Cogliano. This kid looks to pass waaaayy too often.

Since they are offensively challenged, that is they should be encouraged to shoot the puck.

I've been watching this tournament for quite some time (I'm 20, I've been watching since around 1995-96 I figure) and this is definitely the worst officiating I've ever, ever, ever seen in a game. I remember the Swedish ref that someone else mentioned in this thread at being worse, but I have to disagree. This guy is so much worse. He lost complete control of this game at the end by making a joke of it in the first place.

Also Like to add that this was the worst hockey game I've ever witnessed in my life. I go watch my buddies intermural games at Brock U, and even they are better then this garbage I witnessed tonight.

No.. 4-0.. apparently there were 38 total penalties in the game. Apparently, by the way some in this thread are talking, this is the way the game is played in Europe.

Canada is a different team than the USA. They are not as skilled or offensively talented, but are more well-rounded and gritty.

Not smart if they were to drop their gloves and get suspended for the us game. At least if they were playing the US---I would say have at 'er. But still, is it worth getting suspended when playing Norway???

You're fairly plucky.How much did Team terrific pound Finland by? And i watched the game and you sure did'nt look like world beaters to me.
