IM SURE THERE WERE MANY AMERICANS IN THE STANDS TOO... R U POSITIVE IT WASNT THEM BOOING?

Yea, the 1/3 American crowd did all the booing while the Canadian fans just hung their heads at the disgusting Americans :shakehead

What, so because a less than reputable CANADIAN sports network vaguely accuses Ovechkin of "taunting", everyone blindly piles on the most ludicrous criticisms regarding a kid whose entire life has been described as a focused, mature, selfless leader. All the while completely ignoring the fact that AO didn't taunt the American bench, that it was Malkin, who simultaneously has become the better player in the minds of these same fans despite trailing Ovechkin in every statistical category.

:lol

So, let me get this straight: you - a less than reputable AMERICAN member of HF Boards - believe that your posts are going to be any more successful at changing people's opinions on Alexander Ovenchicken?

:lol :lol :lol :lol

oh cmon, its just all fun and games. When people swing american flags in Canadian stadiums we boo just as hard. Gimme a damn break. Its just the way of the fan. Its all fun and games, when a russian makes fun of you.

anyways, its great seeing tears flow from the Russians. Its time they swallow their pride.
:yo:

I dont get this....first, you are try to take away from him...thats ok of course, but at least admit it. Other than this board I havent seen the media writing about what happened the other night....links?

It's been all over the press here - print and screen. Not to mention word of mouth. Here's one of a dozen mentions:
http://tsn.ca/world_jrs/news_Story.asp?ID=109881

It was in the globe, the National, Slam and other locals too.

Just because no one cares in the the states doesn't mean no one else does.

a reply in that artical....

"Russia will pay 2morrow 4 repeating the same stupidity Kovalchuk did a few years ago."

indeed they russians payed. Humilated 6-1.

Their actions labled themselves a team you love to hate.

This game will be a good learning experience for Ovechkin. I agree the booing may have been out of line but if he is any kind of competitor (and it looks like he really is) this will teach him that you can't act that way and play in NA. He was a target out there and if he doesn't want that to continue he'll learn to play with more humility.

Ultimately this should fire him up to raise his game to a new level. Cause even as good as he is, he has a long way to go before he could be called the next Federov. He has that potential and this game should help move him closer to that level.

Ovechkin.... level up.

just watch.

And I gotta say this about the Russia team. I may not have liked them, but I sure respected them. Kudos to them on a solid tournament and a well deserved silver medal.

This is the point where you become a poster completely devoid of all credibility. Congrats.

Amen to that ;)

I was just replying to the fan who blamed the Americans for booing Ovechkin because it couldn't have been the arena full of Canadien fans :D

We all know Canadiens wouldn't boo another teams best player - only Americaans do that :lol

If Russia wins, they'll never be given any credit.. people will always look for something bad to say about them.. these guys got absolutely no credit for coming back fom being down 0:2 and 1:3 in 2002 and winning gold.. then they got absolutely no credit when they beat Canada on home ice and were down 1:2 in the 3rd in 2003...

but no, these guys don't have any heart and determination and it's all luck..
You're so wrong. I've been listening very closely to commentators' comments and also interviews with Canadian management and they all said that Russia was the superior team in all the years they've won. I've heard Bob Nicholson said twice that Canada came very close to win but that Russia was better in 2003 and gave credit to their incredible come back. The only time the commentators and Canadian management said that Canada should have won was last year against the US. Again, I've also heard that at least twice. I think you unconciously disregard those comments and only remember the biased comments because that's what "shocks" you. People tend to remember more the bad part and forget the good part. We're all biased more or less and Canadians TV commentators are also guilty but you are exagerrating the degree of our bias.

1] they wouldn't without all the crap he pulled on the americans (see the cheers saku koivu got at the canada cup, if you bothered to watch)
2] it's Canadians, not Canadiens.

Devoid of credibility for being wrong, or just participating (out of sheer boredome)? I'd give you the latter. ;)

Did you actually see what happened? TSN was reaching.

Yes, I watched the entire game. I add to this 16 years of hockey experience (and 25 of watching) and I say he was taunting. If you want to add two or three years of watching NASCAR as a relative reference for judging acceptable behaviour, that's great.

I say it was borderline- at best.

Nascar?

One thing to remember for everyone talking about "playing with injuries". All the players and situations mentioned involve either the Stanley Cup or a major mens world championship. If you were Ovechkin, and you knew you had an injury, would you risk damaging your future pro career for the sake of a junior tournament you've already won before? I sure as hell wouldn't.

If I'm a pro scout, I would question whether or not he would do it for my team. Ovechkin was hell bent on beating Canada. All the taunting he did to the Americans was all for nothing if he lets a seemingly minor injury keep him out of a championship game.

I know you see this tournament as nothing but a scouting mission, but the players don't see it that way. At least in Canada, kids dream about winning the World Juniors.

Aaron Vickers said:
I dont see him being as much of a target in the NHL as he was in this sole game. In fact, I don't recall one player being targetted so much in recent memory in terms of physicality.

Ovechkin had better get used to it if he doesn't change his attitude towards his opponents. NHL bruisers won't just nail him with clean bodychecks either.

Your posts are nascar quality. If you can't see he was taunting, you have never played hockey. It's that simple.

NASCAR quality?

How provincially pretentious and revealing of you.

um..okay. back to the point though. You are wrong, and anyone who has actually played hockey will tell you so.

Honestly, the only guy who's really an embarassment out of all of this is Pierre Mcguire. Fair enough, you hate Russia and love Canada, fine. But try to maintain at least some sense of objectivity through all of this, would you?
Pierre Mcguire doesn't hate Russia, he just REALLY loves Canada. It doesn't matter if it's against Russia, the US or the Czech Republic, Canadians are always angels in his views.

Totally agreed. If you don't think AO taunted the US team, imagine if you were one of the players sitting on the American bench. I for one would take EXTREME offense to any of the crap Ovechkin and Malkin pulled after their amazing empty-netters. If you don't see this, obviously there's no point in trying to convince you.

I've played hockey and 5 other team sports. It could have been water polo. Who cares? It was hardly flagrant taunting. At best it's arguable. This is way too embittered.

I'm just going to agree with everything you say, completely disingenuously, and get some sleep.

this is taunting-

Care to back that up with anything? I'm all ears. Was it the kissing of his crest, or showing the nameplate to the American fans that was directed at the American bench/players.

Alright, let me rephrase that. Anyone who's played hockey in Canada knows that is taunting. It's that simple.

It's nice that after 7 years of being beaten up on by everyone from Russia to Khazakstan to USA, Canada finally gets one, but what a horrible tournament this was. Not a single great game involving Canada. How dissapointing is it that in the year that Canada has put out its best squad in 10 years, every other world power put out either one of, or their worst.

Frankly, I don't see much to celebrate here.
What kind of a twisted logic is that?!? Are you Canadian because it really doesn't sound like you are.
