GDT: WJC: Germany - Sweden

Ah, the ol' "rooting for bodychecks" method. I feel like that most nights with conference games that don't involve my favorite teams.
btw.. off topic.. Sabres drafted Jakub Konecny. He looked damn good in the Spengler yesterday and is doing well. I could seem him in Rochester next year!

Probably the most annoying announcers I've heard outside of Jack Edwards in awhile. Everything is a complaint, it feels like I'm reading my own posts on HF.

German hockey never progressed as much as it should have because there were way too many foreigners playing in Pro leagues and keeping spots from aspiring youngsters. That plus Soccer will always be King In Germany

How many shots did the Germans have on power plays? Ten? They aren't very competitive at 5v5, but they play a damn good power play. They just need better shooters, Lindbom saw most of the shots.

I still don't like Jansson, Czechs or Canadians will give him big problems.

Sure, but Germany has progressed quite considerably the past what .. 5 to 10 years and they must be taken seriously by opposing teams. They are playing well so far and could very well steal this game.

Stankoven can talk about Canada didn't play their game but the reality is that the Czechia's Defense is 10 times better than Canada's!Del Mastro,Mieter don't belong on this team. Not so sure about Allen either. And Hinds too

Agreed. They have really found a system that works. Last time they had someone like Alexander Blank as a shooter, this time there is not a single pure shooter on this team. The best we can hope for are rebounds or deflections.

But overall I am still pleasantly surprised how one of our worst rosters of the last few years, missing some of their best players on top of that, is playing so far. It really looks like they have figured out a system that works for all the players and allows them to mask the lack of individual talent.

Obviously they cannot keep up with a team like Sweden 5v5, but even there they performed better than expected.

Agreed. I think we Germans would all be pretty happy with just avoiding relegation this year and staying up. Looking for hopefully competitive games against the top 3 and then a win against Austria

Obviously not but it's a very good D core. Jiricek and Svozil would make any team in this tourney IMO. Spacek and Hamara would have shots too as outsiders.

Czechs simply aren't used to good D cores at this tourney... I'm so used to seeing future NHL goalies like Vladar, Vanecek, Vejmleka, Dostal and Mrazek getting absolutely lit up on tic tac toe passes and some elite Swede or Canuck just tapping it in. That didn't happen once last night and that is so rare to see.

The nice thing is that next year's D core should be pretty good too! And 2 years from now, no joke, we'll have Svozil and Jiricek again! Along with another Galvas who is trending beautifully. Add in Dvoark and Koci and we may have a better D core in 2 years.

Next year should see Alscher and Hamara playing big minutes which isn't a bad start at all.
