It is because bureaucratic structures have emerged from the COVID situation more than a year ago, which are not easy to abolish from day to day. Of course they will start treating COVID as a normal seasonal illness which is not extra severe, given vaccination plus the lesser severity of the Omicron variant. With Omicron, virtually everybody is going to have the virus in their body, vast majority of people with zero symptoms, there will be no point in testing because majority of test would return positive. But it may take further months before these structures around testing and quarantines can be effectively abandoned. Those things usually have some braking distance.

There is definitely a time issue with the next game being tomorrow at 2:30 PM MT, but somebody posted the relevant Bob McKenzie tweet about a request being made to the IIHF to postpone (or switch) that game so this scenario doesn't happen.

The tournament never should have been played in Canada. The Canadian government refuses to move on with life even though over half the population is fully vaxed. Should have played in the States where the restrictions are better.
