How are they getting COVID? This tournament is so badly organized with people getting sick left and right.

The vacs give 70-80% shield for covid-19 and Omicron spreads more easily than earlier variants. I was at a bar two weeks ago and got it while being double vaccinated.

So disappointing. Watching a game and lose would've been 100x better than a win like this. I just want to watch the damn games ffs.

forfeit because of one player

yeah this tournament wont end well. teams will have to forfeit in the medal rounds.

OK, now the tournament is over for good, time to cancel it. It is a pity but the same will happen to the Olympics and virtually all tournaments until they stop testing asymptomatic players. That's about it.

Why would they quarentine the whole team if everyone is double vaccinated. This is hysterical. They won't get the long-covid besides omicron is less damaging than the variant before it.

especially since germany played with 15 players last tournament when there were no vaccine available.

How the hell does this keep happening? How hard can it be to keep the teams isolated, and safe from possible infections?

Best hockey tournament of the year completely ruined. No to mention the Olympics… A bunch of morons running the greatest sport on earth.

This is so ridiculous. It's a friggin flu now, everyone is double vaccinated and there would be no major effects on Canadian health care capacity..

the womens tourney was u18, not the real thing. Nobody cares about that one. fake outrage.

I understand it was "not the real thing".....that said, I'm not too familiar with the women's hockey tourneys or if they even have a "WJC", but this was the second year in a row that their tourney got kiboshed while the WJC goes on as scheduled.

No outrage, just amused by the double standard I guess. Money talks!

Omicron has been around for about 15 minutes. Who knows? Not anyone on this board, that's for sure.

Given the explosion in cases, this tournament should never have happened, let alone not in a bubble.

The Olympics shouldn't be happening either.

...That's a bit stupid to not have come up with a more relax schedule if those were the guidelines they were intending on following.

What's the point if 1 positive test puts the whole team into quarantine lol? Did the guys in charge actually think this tournament would go over without a single positive test?

While this may be correct in hindsight, science has not confirmed any of it. The early data is very promising but you can't base public health policy off it. The World Juniors are not that important and should not be happening when health care systems are at risk in the face of a brand new variant.

Also, why the hell do they quarantine the whole team? European leagues only quarantine the player with positive test, and let the others play. And those players travel, and live normal lives, being a bigger threat to society, than some kids commuting between the arena and the hotel.
