Prospect Info: WJC 2022 part 2: Picking Back Up In August

I think the main takeaway from the 2022 draft is how we'll get no help from it the following season, no one is NHL ready in it, not even Wright.

Jiricek should be sent to the WHL.
Nemec in Sweden
Savoie needs to train.
Geekie needs to skate.
Cooley gain 2 way maturity.
Slaf needs to round out his game.
etc.

Good

Cause we need to challenge for a lottery pick in 2023

Yeah that's fair, looking forward to seeing more of Wright as the Tourney progresses. I'm sure they'll both be good players. I just want the Habs to end up with a great one.

Hockey analysts often say that no player should lose stock in this tournament before they're drafted. It's a tournament where 19 year olds are usually the difference makers. Bedard and Wright are both excellent prospects and different players. Bedard is a generational player and it's great to see him succeeding. His success has no bearing on Wright's status though.

Not many 17 year olds play center for Team Canada. McTavish and Power weren't even on the team in their draft year.

I'm all in on Shane Wright. I think he has proven in the past and will keep proving. Underwhelming thus far, but lots of more hockey to go. What happends if in a meaningful match vs Finland or Sweden, Bedard is kept off the scoring sheet and Wright scores the GWG. What happens then?

Btw, Wright has been winning his faceoffs like crazy. 1st in the tournament so far with 92.31%. Insane

There will be an epic tank battle for Bedard.

I wonder what teams will be deliberately tanking next year? Obviously Arizona.

Hopefully us, but Ottawa looks like they want to be competitive, so don't see them tanking on purpose. Sanderson should help them.

Probably San Jose, Buffalo. My worry is Pittsburgh. Another f***ing generational talent shows up just as Crosby ages out.

Could see Boston in it, although not intentionally, but Marchand and Bergeron are aging.

Yeah, race for the bottom in 2023.

that's a good take......and I'm with you with no NHLers for next year in this draft....but I'm convinced whoever Arizona picks will be playing.

I'm sure Wright CAN play in the NHL, would just be a huge disservice to the guy.

He's the reason I've been wanting a change of rule for some time, for fringe NHLers under 20. Teams should be able to send them to the AHL, with an open door to the WJC. Like Perfetti is getting this year because of the Covid rules.

Arizona will be the odds on favourite. Seattle, San Jose and Buffalo could all be there especially if they don't address their goaltending. I think Boston's core is still too strong to tank. Marchand's still producing as well as ever. Also Ottawa is so deep with young talent ready to break out. Pittsburgh winning it wouldn't be fair. Chicago might also take a dip. Could Philly also be in the running?

There are always a couple of teams who crash hard that not many predicted. Michkov and Dvorsky are also looking very good.

From what I've seen....100% agree, How can you make the NHL when you can't even dominate this tournament or your own league...??

It's still early in this tourney but it's not looking good for Mr. Wright

It will all depend on how he looks in camp which is 9 months away. A lot can happen between now and then.

If I'm an NHL team, I know he missed a season, not taking any chance.

I can't see a team like Arizona who's trying to draw fans not keeping him with the big club.

If it's the Habs, it will all depend on the rest of this season and his camp. The OHL might be a waste of time for him next year when he's a mature 18 year old who already plays a strong 200 foot game against mostly younger kids. NCAA would be ideal but obviously he's ineligible. It's certainly been great for Owen Power's development this year!

Wright did dominate his own league. He had 39 goals in 50-some games as a 15-16 year old. He got off to a slow start this year after not playing last season but was hot in last 10-11 games before heading to Team Canada camp. He still has 30 points in 22 games.

How many 17 year olds over the years have truly dominated this tournament? Many NHL stars didn't even make Team Canada at 17.

It really is unreal with Bedard lol, was crosby even that amazing at 16 jesus

Bedard is a better scorer than Crosby.

Bedard's an unreal talent and should have the best career of any player on Team Canada. It will be interesting to see how he produces vs the big teams at at 16. Four goals is very impressive but Austria's a weak entry. Team Canada players looked almost embarrassed as they were scoring.

Those games are tough on both teams. Austria getting humiliated and Team Canada coaches hoping they don't pick up bad habits vs a significantly weaker opponent.

I had read here not too long ago that the top 5 this season would be game changers. Now, I read that none are.

Which is it? A star-ladden draft or a 2018 one?

Crosby was a better grinder/is a better grinder. That's the under-appreciated part of Sid's game.

Thus Crosby was nearly as effective against the big teams, always. Bedard needs some time and space.
