There’s really no point in watching all these blow outs, the games are absolutely boring and predictable.

It should be Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland play each other twice and then the two top teams play a best of 3 series for gold. Same goes for bronze - 3rd and 4th team battle for it.

The last 5th spot should go to the best team in D1B. The worst team in the elite division will be relegated.

This should bring much more interest to fans watching it.

Respectfully, but vehemently disagree.

Latvia is a great example of why this Tournament needs depth. Even the bottom Teams gain a great deal of experience and development from playing the Top Teams.

As a fan of the Russian Hockey Program, I feel for you. Hopefully your Boys will be able to return to this Tournament in the near future- which will mean the conflict will be over soon

Weird time to post that when Germany kept it close into the third against Finland, Latvia only lost to Sweden by one goal, and Switzerland is currently playing well against Canada.
Look at the round robin, other than Latvia beating the Czechs, there was zero upsets

These kind of thoughts are simply described with three words. Elitist, arrogant and stupid. And that’s all I have to say on this subject.

I’m sorry, but it’s the bitter truth. What’s the headline for Canada vs Austria game ? Will Bedard score 3 or 5 points ?

There were no upsets in the round robin of the previous tournament. It happens sometimes. There is no need to change the structure of the tournament, and the timing of this is particularly poor.
In the last 15 years, a team outside of top 5 won medals exactly once. It is certainly harsh, but it’s the reality

With that logic soccer World Cup should be played only between about 5 countries as well. Yet, the tournament as it is (with 32 teams), is one of the most followed sport spectacles of the world.
That’s not exactly a fair comparison, the World Cup is played once in 4 years, if it was plyed annually, there would be many more winners.

Also, take a look at the semi finalists of the WC, it’s almost always different teams, WJC semi finals feature same 5 teams most of the time

I can tell you that there wouldn’t be many more winners, but a lot more wins for those 5 teams.

That's nice and all but the World Juniors remain wildly predictable each and every year in the only thing that matters, wins and losses. If you give someone the slate of games for the next 10 years, you could probably guess correctly at about 90-95 % accuracy with zero knowledge of the eventual teams and roster compositions.

Not sure if you are being intentionally obstinant here or just woefully incorrect to the global state of international football (soccer), but there would definitely be more winners. The World Cup and other major competitions like the Euros are not just the same 5 countries swapping Semifinal appearances. Italy has won multiple World Cups, and in the last few years failed to qualify for the World Cup, won Euros and failed to qualify for the World Cup again.

And yet the wins are exchanged practically between France, Germany, Spain, Brazil and Italy. Ok, Argentina, England and Uruguay have also won, but it was already pretty much ancient history when they did it. Especially in England’s and Uruguay’s case you can say that.

well yes some nations are better than others historically, but there haven't been that many world cups, Brazil has won it 5 times, Germany and Italy 4 times, Argentina, France and Uruguay 2 times and Spain and England 1 time. There's only been 21 World Cups, Germany is the only country to make more Semifinals than they've missed (made it 12 times, missed it 9 times).

Open up the discussion to include the Euros and the Copa America which feature all those winning nations collectively and all of whom really want to win that tournament too and the pool expands a lot as well. It's not uncommon for players contending for the world's best to come from countries that have no chance in an international competition.

Canada has won the World Juniors 18 times and missed the Top 4 only a small handful of times.

What is your point at it pertains to this thread?

That doesn't really have anything to do with your OP, which is about changing the structure because Russia is not there (no reason given) and because the games are uncompetitive, which isn't the case in the quarterfinals even with several of the teams you would have removed involved.
