With hindsight, would you take Cooley over Slaf?

Cooley will get you regular season points, absolutely more than slaf.

Ideally for borh teams, we have a Nichushkin and Cooley is a Huberdeau.

One has a 115 pt season and the other has never hit 70 - but he was the best player in a SCF that featured Mackinnon, Makar , Kucherov, Point etc.

That's my hope at least.

Slaf is on track to be our Danius Zubrus v2.0 at this rate.

Nichuskin would have more pts if he was healthy. My point wasn't that cooley was literally Huberdeau and slafkovsky was nichuskin - it's that not all players who post huge regular season totals are better than those who don't for a cup run.

Nuke was the best player in a SCF and was basically ppg last year before he went to player assistance. He's the kind of player you need to win a cup. If we get that from slaf it's a huge win. We can't seriously expect much more than ppg from him in his prime. Regular season production isn't my concern with him anyway, he could be a 65 pt player or an 85 pt player, it doesn't matter unless he drives the play in the playoffs.

What? It's common knowledge the guy had issues. I'm strictly talking about level of play. If Slaf can be at a level of healthy Nuke that's a huge piece to a contender. You're just seeing what you want to see.

I chose Nuke because he's a 6'4 elite power forward. That's been a popular comp for slaf since he was drafted

Cooley would do amazing job in front of the net on our PP1. You get less puck touches and you sacrifies your point production, but I am sure he would love it. He would also carry Dach on the 2nd line because he is better than sherpa from Nepal. He is just 20, but he can carry a lot.

Cooley would not work in this market. Utah is fine for him. Cooley looked like a deer in headlights at the draft in Mtl. This market is overwhelming. Look at how they grilled Slaf this week and the kid took it on the chin. Cooley is fine in Utah.

With hindsight, I would take Tkachuk over KK (actually, he was my first choice before all the HF noise got to me ... my mistake).

With hindsight, I would have taken Mitchkov, and then hold his ass as ransom for Phili: all your prospects are belong to us! (No more Mr. Nice Guy!)

With hindsight, and foresight, I would have never traded McDonough for Gomez (I would have taken their 1st +), so with Sergachev for Drouin (dude was showing issues early).

But Cooley Vs. Slaf. I have no strong opinion. Even if Cooley does become the better points producer, and if Slaf ever learns that he has to hit and dominate the boards, while putting up points, I'm ok with that.

Most say that Slaf is a finesse player, and he is NOT a power forward.

This is the hope for many of these bigger types of players, and why they are so tantalizing in terms of potential.

Kent Hughes better hope Slaf does start to dominate the boards and using his body cause he doesn't have enough skill to make a big impact otherwise.

I do like where Cooley is projecting. A better Duchene. He would fit in perfectly as an offensive C behind Suzuki. Slaf is a more unique player though I'm still curious to see what he can bring.

I had Cooley at 1.. there were very few of us who also had that same opinion.

I think with hindsight, you actually confirm you take Slaf over Cooley. As good as Cooley is now, he still doesn't add size to the group, and Cooley isn't as good as what Demidov will be. Having Slaf's skill-set for the top 6 skill we do have, is much needed.

What will Cooley looks like when asked to swim after his floaters are removed? Because he is still getting sheltered minutes based on quality of opposition and ozone start stats this season.

6'0 192 lbs.... I would say thats quite average. Same as Demidov.

Indeed, 6'0 for a centerman is actually average size as it is the smallest of all positions. Although, from everything I've read, Demidov is 6'1.

Slaf is the kind of player that may take longer to reach his peak but once he does it's game changer. Cooley would've been a great choice too, but a very different one
