Logan Cooley is on pace for 18G 56A 74P in his 2nd season already

Curious if fans think they shouldve taken him over Slaf now, especially with the concerns at 2C going forward.

There is a size difference (6'0 192 lbs), but Cooley's gonna be a star in Utah. No doubt.

Slaf no doubt hasn't been good this season. I am not sure why they are not working on his skating. He looks like he needs to learn the most basis hockey things... like moving his feet, holding stick with both hands, finish hits...

I was always team Cooley, but it's hard to say still. Take Slaf out of Montreal and this coach, he's probably close to .75pt a game

2C? Cooley will be better than Suzuki. Need to see Playoff Slaf before I can answer the question, however, but probably.

Cooley looks like the better pick at this time.

Especially for a lottery pick, stats and production matter. Slaf la Liga stats were never worthy of a top 10 pick to begin with. See with Hutson as well the stats were a massive indication.

It's true he produced well for a 19 years old last year but we need to remember he did not do anything until being put with Suzuki and Caufield. He will be the kind of player that will need to be put with our best players and play the grinder role.

Also Slaf is the perfect example why you don't offer massive contract to a 20 years old for a decent 50 games stretch.

The difference between Slaf and Cooley this season, is that instead of playing with Dach he played with guys who can score. Typical Cooley point: skates fast accross the blue line, bobbles the puck, linemates picks it up, passes it to second linemate. Another Cooley second assist. Good luck getting that kind of production with Dach instead of Guenther.

And after drafting 5’10 non-physical Cooley, we draft 5’10 Michkov. Why doesn’t the NHL gift us the Cup. No need for playoffs.

Nah, Cooley is not what this 'core' needs right now
Because it's Dach struggling actually that makes this more of a debate now,
But Hage could fix aaaaallll of this too potentially

Slaf is 20 yrs old.. people are treating him like a finished product already
He's been a bit banged up since the start of the year and obviously not used to being a bit lighter (and somehow a bit slower(injury still? Unsure))
But he , despite 'struggling' is still on a 50 point pace, as our top 6 is figuring itself out still with ghe insertion of Laine

Id be concerned if he was 24, but 20?

It's surreal to me when we score on the PP and 2 of the 5 guys celebrating are f***ing 20 years old still lol.
And next year we insert a 19 yr old lol

Just wish Slaf shot it a bit more, for sure, get mum on the phone again, or Dr. Shot or wtv lol

While the Smurf line of Koivu, Petrov and Valeri Bure didn’t quite work, let’s try again with the second edition BPA Smurf line, Michkov, Cooley and Caufield.

There is nothing wrong with his skating at all.

He just isn't moving his feet and has almost entirely regressed back to the form that he had for the first half of last season. Confidence is an issue but I fear that he has a level of cockiness and immaturity that has him distracted and not putting his best effort in.

His upside is higher than Cooley's and he was clearly the better player over the last half of last season. Development is not linear and Slaf just needs some tough love and perhaps a team leader to light a fire underneath him as he appears a little entitled this season. I believe that he will be fine and will be a better all around player than Cooley but there is no arguing that Cooley has been much better than Slaf so far this season.

Talent over size any day of the week for me.

Non physical Hutson is so useless out there.

Cooley could be a massive playoff performer for all we know. Size does not imply playoff beast.

Acting like size is not a huge advantage is both nonsensical and entirely contrary to the evidence at hand with Stanley Cup winners.

Tbh tho the new crop of NHL'ers are not as physically imposing as beasts of the past. It's why I'm not too worried about Slaf either, he's got lots of time to learn to dominate, I just hope he doesn't get side tracked by bs.

Hutson is pretty physical i’d say. He isn’t laying big hits but he plays physical, similar to how Gally is.

For Cooley I don’t think it’s a problem for him either, he’s not scared.

Comparing both him and Slaf is early at this stage, though. I don’t think trying to say Slaf plays better with Suzuki and Caufield is some negative, good players needs other good players around them to actually be good. It’s not a surprise that Cooley has been better playing with Guenther, too.

Would you rather have smallish Daniel Briere or big Rick Nash or Joe Thornton in the playoffs?

Size is an advantage when the skill level is similar. It is NOT in this case. Cooley is the more skilled player by a bit.
