Winnipeg Jets select D Logan Stanley (1/18) Part II (Mod warning in OP)

Fun fact: I was driving down Logan today and Stanley intersect with it. An obvious sign that we should have drafted him.

We need to find a guy with a name from intersecting streets in the southwest of the city. Grant Cambridge or Ken(aston) McGillivray... ;)

South end? I don't think so.

Nothing says Jets like a real West End moniker: "With the 14th pick the Winnipeg Jets are proud to select, Wolseley Westminster!"

Those streets run parallel so that'll obviously never work! Garfield Palmerston, maybe - surly stay-at-home type who hates Mondays but loves blocking shots?

Draft truculent Alfred McGregor and trade him to Calgary. Or his truculent Swedish half-brother Magnus McGregor.

Warren Rychel, Spitfires GM, on illegal curve, stated Stanley showed the biggest improvement from his rookie to sophomore season, they have ever seen.

As well:
- numbers reflect his role, not skill.
- solid puck handling, passing and possession skills.
- plays with an edge, tough to play against, physical game
- limited poweplay due to 1d 4f pp unit. Will see more pp mins next season.
- played against other teams top lines
- pivots very well for a big man, and will get better.

Basically much of what I was stating a couple of months ago in the draft thread, and being told by a few on here that Stanley had none of those skills, did not play a physical game, not a solid skaters ect..

Stanley is going to be an example of why it's important to look beyond the numbers, and actually watch a player before declaring what their game is.

Next season all his analytical numbers will improve, and magically his game will inherit all the traits that were seemingly non existent a few months prior.

This. Blood in the water. As the piranhas take notice and start to circle.

A shame can't do the same with Calgary street names.

Would the Jets trade Wolseley Westminster for the Flames' 8th St 12th Ave SW?

Or would you prefer 7th St 17th Ave SW??

Yeahhhhhhh doesn't quite have the same ring to it, in any way shape or form, does it

I'm seriously hoping that this thread (these threads) comes back to haunt many of us

We all do obviously. People who thought it was an odd move still want the jets to succeed. Some of us don't always think every move is a winner but would love to be wrong.

I hope this is the case. Prove us armchair GMs and scouts wrong.

Yeah I hope Stanley proves us all wrong. We're just all very much aware that the odds are stacked against him.

Who are all these streets in Winnipeg named after?

All the streets in the town I live in are named after either Canadian Cities or Native American groups. We do have a Thatcher Street... not sure why they haven't renamed it yet...

Is anyone Colin for a change to Thatcher street? :sarcasm:

Back to Stanley - the player, not the street:

A lot of posts outline comparables like Valabik. How early on was Valabik identifiable as a disaster? Was it commonly accepted before he ever played for the Thrashers or did it take a few NHL seasons?
