I hear ya. I'm chomping at the bit to get out to get out to the lake. Our place isn't winterized and is a good hundred+ yards off the nearest plowed road so it gets pretty snowed in. I go out as soon as my truck can navigate the wet/snowy dirt road in and the evening temperature doesn't drop below -10C.
Ya our cabin isn't winterized either so you have to wait for half decent temps before you can go . 5 plus months of winter is enough for me, bring on our usually great summers.
Also would like to bring the car out of hibernation.
I did a tear down of my old cottage and rebuild where I winterized and I have been out three days since August. Having two younger kids in sports on the weekends is a bit of buzz kill for cottage use.
You guys mentioning Cottages/Cabins reminds me of my childhood when we had a Cabin on Cariboo Lake, near Likely, BC.
My Dad had a Mineral & Placer Claim nearby and we’d spend almost every weekend from Spring thaw to Fall freeze up out there - mining, fishing and hunting.
When I was 12 we went out in the Spring and discovered that a Grizzly Bear broke through one wall and walked out another after destroying the oil furnace and sparse furniture we had inside.
I heard swear words I’d never known that day and wondered how they were anatomically possible.
I admit that I hated mining as a kid - it was extremely hard work and chopping through devils club with a home made machete (made from an old chainsaw bar) brought no joy each Spring.
However, when I was middle aged I was able to look back on those years fondly, as my Dad gave me an experience many never knew & got me in pretty decent shape come hockey season each year.
Thanks for sharing your stories, guys & for the GDT
