I honestly think Petan is done with the Jets. I mean, I'm not saying he has no chance left and things can't turn out differently but me personally, I'm ready to bet money on it.
I would tend to agree on Petan. He has drifted through top prospect to deep depth tweener. Maybe a fresh start in another organization helps him get his game in order. He may be a guy who gets moved at the TD for veteran depth somewhere.

Agreed.
Right now for Nic to get into the lineup, he has to leap frog Dano and Matthias for 3rd line duties, Lemieux and Lipon for 4rth line duties and Roslovic for anything in the top 6. Further to that, players like Perrault, Copp and Armia would most likely be moved up the lines to cover a top 6 injury before Petan got a shot.

Add other players like Appleton, Foley, Vesalainen and Stallard that are creeping up on Petan as well. Nic needs to take a couple of solid steps in development if he is ever going to grab a top 6 job with this team, or he needs to carve out a role that he can provide consistently, and learn to play in a bottom 6 role.

Montreal seems like a nice fit for Nic, think he would have a solid opportunity there.

I think Peter Stoykewych was pretty much written off as a prospect years ago by most, if not all of us. He's 25 YO now but still seems to be getting just a little better each year. He's up to 10 pts in 20 games now. Just 1 less than Niku and 3rd among Moose D.

What do those who've seen him play think? Is he a late bloomer with a chance? Could he be useful as an injury callup?

He is on an AHL contract so would have to be signed. Most likely an AHL lifer or Euro bound but I just noticed his steadily improving stats.

Speaking of Moose - I see Hutch is sporting a .939 sv% - 3rd in the AHL. Seems to be regaining a little confidence. Will he survive the AHL All-Star break? Flaherty? What the heck happened to him?

That .939 might be building some trade value there.

I doubt it. The market for goalies is worse than non-existent.

True but it only takes one injured starter to create a market, at least a bit of one. I'm not talking about getting a 1st or anything. A 5th would be nice.

Vegas made do without a starter, a backup, an AHL starter and an AHL backup. Antti Niemi has been claimed off waivers - twice.

I'd love to be wrong, but there is just no chance of us getting anyone to bite on an AHL goalie.

Vegas was different - in many ways. They aren't under the normal pressure to win and are waaaaayyy overachieving - perhaps as a result of that lack of pressure. And even so they did acquire 1 goalie, IIRC. Once they got down to their 5th one it just didn't seem important anymore.

That said, you are quite right. There is generally very little market for goalies but I can hope. Maybe he has some value as a throw in.

Plays a safe game, is really strong in corners and in front of the net and has started contributing offensively playing on his off side for the Moose. No doubt he's improved a ton but I don't think he has the foot speed to get to the bigs. Just not quick enough and he's likely got to jump over melchiori, niku, and schilling to get a call up on the left side. If the Jets got hammered for injuries on the right side on D he could maybe get a call up after Poolman but i'd guess the Jets try moving around some of the other D before calling up Peter.

The Nogier injury does show how little we have in terms or right handed Dmen in the system though. Having either Green or Kovacevic hit would be really big if we end up moving trouba or not resigning Myers.

Edit: format

'K, thanks. About as expected.

Vesalainen up to 0.64 points/game in Liiga on a low-scoring team. He's having a very solid season.

Some quality Google translated quotes here:
- You are certified by Winnipeg. Does the club with you or the agent maintain a relationship?
- Yes, they are interested in my speeches. They talk to the agent, sometimes they call me. I myself follow the "Winnipeg", in general, I try to be aware of how the Russians in the NHL are performing. There are many good players, there is something to learn from them. There sometimes such fantastic goals are scored, that you grab at the head and think: "How can this be possible at all?"

- Patrick Laine enchanted on the MCHM, and now Winnipeg speaks. Really, a phenomenal player?
- He beat us, what else to say. Master! Scores in the NHL many goals.

- Ilya Bryzgalov said that he would not go to Winnipeg for anything, because it's very cold there. Are not you afraid of frost?
- My wife loves winter, so everything is fine!

- So there is a minus 50!
- Yes, there is no minus 50. She loves the cold, we'll buy a fur coat, and I'll put on a down jacket and it will be okay. The weather is not the main thing.

- Are you ready to play in the AHL if you have to?
- I say that I do not want to guess. We will see what will happen at the end of the season.

- For many hockey players, the main dream is to play in the NHL. For you too?
"The main dream is probably to win the Stanley Cup, and not just play in the NHL.
Here is the article if someone who knows Russian and wants to translate it better

That's a bit of an interesting one. Obviously he hasn't had a ton of production the the KHL but he seems to get a shot on a lot of their national teams so he must be doing something right. I kinda figured he'd stay in Russia for his career but it'd be fun to see more of his game playing with the Moose next year.

Man, do I wish that Kraskovsky came over to play for us. Mainly due to the potential for heated Kraskovsky vs Korshkov -debates on the main boards.

Kraskovsky and Vesalainen give the Jets two low-key, high-upside big wings. This organization is becoming an NHL-wing factory. Almost every one they draft at least plays in the A. I'd be thrilled to bring the big fella over. He'd have a pretty sizable mountain to climb though to crack the Jets roster as our depth on the wing is approaching jaw-dropping.

Nothing low key about Ves. He's a first round pick and a scorer. I wouldn't put Kraskovsky in the same class. He's just another body and an NHL longshot.

Not really our prospect, but Colton Poolman is pacing better scoring wise than his brother did at the same age. He's top pairing in North Dakota right now and watching shift by shifts of Tucker last year I was actually more impressed with Colton's skating. Wouldn't mind us throwing a contract his way, worst case he's a decent player on the Moose.
