Savard was so respected - it was a big deal when the Jets brought him in. A real stabilizing veteran influence on a young team. There was only so much he could do with Soetaert and Staniowski between the pipes though...Interesting note that Savard had retired from the game in the spring of 1981, but was lured out of retirement by his pal John Fergusson & joined the Jets at the midway point of the 81-82 season.
I remember an afternoon game (or perhaps a replay the following day on CKND), shortly after acquisition where some late game last minute heroics occurred via a Savard spinorama goal getting the the Jets a win.
Perhaps it's time to lure another hockey legend out of retirement?
How about a guy who once wore 33 for the Jets?Savard was so respected - it was a big deal when the Jets brought him in. A real stabilizing veteran influence on a young team. There was only so much he could do with Soetaert and Staniowski between the pipes though...
I miss the days where a goaltender's surname would have your mother reaching for a bar of soap...That's an unfortunate name for a goalie...
Well, I don't know if I'd call him stabilizing...How about a guy who once wore 33 for the Jets?
