Should have gone back to grass. I guess lower maintenance costs trump player safety.

Considering all the use IG Field gets, I don't think grass is really an option. Not just the Bombers but Valour FC, Bison football, Bison soccer, high school/minor football playoffs, the odd concert. There's a lot going on there.

If there was a smaller secondary stadium in Winnipeg such that IG Field could be the sole domain of the Bombers with everything else at the other field, then maybe grass could work. But given the circumstances, it has to be artificial turf.

Anyway, this is long overdue. Some stadiums in the CFL installed their artificial after IG Field was built and have replaced it since. The current rug is 12 years old (was installed the year before IG Field actually opened), going on 13. Time for a change.

I haven't followed much Bombers this offseason because I'm still annoyed at losing back to back but Dru Brown getting traded is surprising. Are there real rumours of Streveler returning? I wonder how that works cap-wise.
I imagine Brown was in line to get a sizable raise that we probably just couldn't fit. He's had better numbers than a lot of guys who have gotten opportunities to start.

The brain surgeons on Reddit said it seems like Streveler coming here is done deal. Their source? He’s sharing all the Bombers social media posts to his Instagram stories. Hardly proof of anything.

FWIW, one of the “insiders” (I think Hamilton? Could be wrong) said the Bombers are front runners for him.

Re: Brown — sounds like he wanted to pursue a starting role. His end-of-season availability left no doubt in my mind he was gonna leave. One of the reporters asked him if he saw a scenario this upcoming year where he’s with the Bombers and he replied “I’ve gotta figure out my own shit.” Which, to be fair, I guess is what Scheifele said a couple years ago and he of course extended. But didn’t seem like he was coming back if we weren’t gonna move Collaros to make space for him.

Ottawa basically just paid us a 5th for a few weeks of exclusive negotiating rights, so nice to salvage something. The scouts will have to find another developmental QB to groom. Easier said than done, especially given their track record.

Friesen had an article in the Sun a few days ago where he basically said, "Well how the heck are they gonna make they cap work? I'm pressing X to doubt they'll bring him back," so, as they say, we'll see ...

Sucks to lose Brown, but I can't fault him for going somewhere he can start.

Looks like the Bombers signed this QB, and while I don't know anything about him, it looks like he's a dual threat type, and that can be very advantageous in the CFL.

The biggest issues IMO are Canadians like Olivera (and is Demski signed?). Schoen as well and there are still O linemen to sign.

Demski is signed. Can’t see us signing Schoen sadly.

Like in the NFL receivers get paid top dollars running backs not so much, Bombers priority will be Schoen who will get Lawler money if he decides to come back here.
Normally yes but Oliveira's passport makes him a very important piece of the puzzle. Plus the Bombers have decent depth at receiver

For me personally it's Schoen in the pecking order, Brady is looking for way to much money and I don't blame him but I think the Bombers let him walk if his ask doesn't come down and go to an American RB next year. Bombers last year started 8 sometimes 9 Canadian players so the ratio isn't a big deal.

Obviously would like to see both of them back with the blue...can't blame them for trying. Saw Oliviera at a Jets games, holy gods he's a beefy cat.
To this point neither has gotten a sniff from NFL teams which in and of itself means nothing I guess but other CFL players have had workouts with NFL teams since the end of the CFL season. Personally I think of the two I'd prefer to have Brady back as we'd pretty much know our run game would be solid and I think it's easier to find American WR's. If we somehow have them both back that would be ideal but I think it will be either/or. Don't want to lose both.

Bombers kind of hamstrung as they can't really throw up dollar amounts for many other FA's until they have a better idea of what Brady and Dalton have in mind to do. Much like a few years ago I guess it was when the Jets couldn't really make personnel decisions what with player negs dragging on and the Byfuglien situation. I think it was that season but I'm near senile now and have ahard time remembering yesterday, never mind a few years ago.:D

Brown was telling the media Collaros was mentoring him on which teams would be a good fit for him in the middle of the season on a week he was starting. I'm glad he's gone.

Artificial grass used nowadays is actually as good or better than real grass. The tech has come a long ways since the days of astroturf.

11 seasons with the original turf so it was high time they replaced it. Hamilton and Ottawa opened their stadiums the year after ours and they had both replaced their original turfs a couple years ago.

I can't see Walter's balking on oliviera after losing a grey cup to.Harris...
They were right to let Harris go. Oft injured and had limited impact during his 2 seasons in Toronto including the Grey Cup. Didn't come close to earning his salary.

Can't say I love that new name...
I don’t know what Hustler was talking about saying this was the only locally-based company putting names on football stadiums. Save-On-Foods (BC), The Brick (Edmonton), and Tim Hortons (Hamilton…well, it was founded there, with HQ now in Toronto) are other local companies sponsoring stadiums in their hometowns.

For the NFL fans here, Zach Collaros was in the Kelce family box with Jason Kelce and Taylor Swift at the recent game.
