It is what it is. There are no ideal markets left. Some like to make a big stink about how Bettman/the NHL hate Canada when it comes to expansion. They obviously don’t. Canada is just out of viable markets at the current price.

A 2nd Toronto market would be very functional. Obviously, there's the issue of the leafs not wanting to give up their territory, but it would absolutely be a solid franchise.

On the flipside, would you really be attracting major growth with a 2nd Toronto team or are you just cannibalizing disgruntled leaf/Sabre fans.

There is no reason to panic as long as TNSE isn't worried about cash flow

They bought the Thrashers for $170,000,000USD in 2011. The franchise was valued last year by Forbes at $780,000,000USD

The Jets would have to lose a lot of money annually in order for those losses to exceed the annual appreciation of the franchise. Not to mention the fact that the team is only one revenue stream for the company (which doesn't include concerts, real estate development, etc)

Some of all y'all have never owned a business and it shows

TNSE essentially owns most of the downtown core as of now with plans to completely facelift it. The Jets are the centerpiece of it all and i don't think it's a stretch Chipman and co have losses baked in (so long as they're not ludicrous as you pointed out) to the equation.

less tickets being sold may not matter when people are spendng oodles of cash elsewhere in the area once the development is done.

Even if cashflow was a problem, they can always just dump a guy like Iafallo @ 4mil who is on the 4th line and replace him with Chibrikov at league min.

Napkin math that's the same as selling another 1k upper bowl tickets every game (probably more didn't really consider USD vs CAD). I'm not worried about the state of the Jets in the slightest

Man, if you’ve got a billion dollar asset that isn’t producing cash, you’re at least aware that you could be earning 4%, risk-free, on that money elsewhere, regardless of what you paid for it. TNSE is clearly fine with the current setup. But the higher the franchise values go, the less likely their heirs will be. The kids usually want the cash.

It’s not today’s problem. There’s plenty of time to get it fixed. But they do need to fix it.

Making the playoffs isn’t something to celebrate. Not when half of the league makes the dance.

People aren’t getting excited for first round participation banners.

It’s a stagnant product. They brought back Arniel, and Chevy will have a job until he decides it’s time to leave. They run this team as if it’s a country club.

There are frankly a lot of people that feel the product isn’t worth the money. That rink has an atmosphere of a funeral most nights.
Kind of surprised the atmosphere is bad with a lot of people here claiming there are no corporations snapping up tickets that leads to the morgue like quality of a game in NY or Toronto.

I’m not sure what the breakdown age wise is on most nights. I’d be curious to know.

The Bombers in particular draw a younger crowd. Ticket prices are a big part of that, but so is the in game entertainment. The Jets seem to cater to a 45+ demographic.

Largely a result of their STH numbers but unless it’s a goal or a fight, that rink is like watching Jeopardy at grandpas house.
