To the best of my knowledge the 2 year contract he just signed involves the cancellation of his previous contract which had 1 year remaining. Now signed through the 2025/26 season

It's huge in the sense they can't dick him around and send him to the VHL or scratch him or loan him to wherever they want, but he still has a 2 year contract with this new team that he can't just leave.
The plan is still probably two more years in the KHL anyways. As long as he comes here at or before he is 24 everything should be fine.

I'm referring to the fact that SKA has a lot of connections to the Russian government. He's much more likely to be allowed to leave with Vityaz.

I doubt there is such thing in Russia as a team with no government connections. But Vityaz is not CSKA ("Rosneft"/Sechin) or SKA (Rotenberg), which makes things easier I guess - money should solve a lot of issues.

That's not training camp. Training camp is in September, leading up to the start of the season. You are thinking about the development camp.

Russians are usually never there. I think their training camps start very early and I believe I have heard/seen that some teams have summer training that is part of their contract
Just found a cool picture of Buchelnikov, Finnie, James, and Cleveland training this offseason. I don’t think anybody has to be nervous about Buchelnikov not wanting to come over. He’s still a project, but the skill is through the roof. Also might as well pencil in William Horcoff as our draft selection next year, he’s the guy all the way on the left
