Where did I say that? I guessed that Marner would score around 80 points if he came to Detroit. And he's 28, while Tavares is 34. I'd expect a decline from John on ANY roster, let alone stepping down to this one.

Subtract 20 points from each player and my 40-50 total for Tavares isn't far off without the decline.
I assumed you were one of the many who said otherwise, my bad

Well not saying he’s crosby or Ovie but I don’t see a decline that soon and not of copp caliber. I think he can get 25-30 here and 55-65 pts as a 2c, ppl guy. He’ll be 35 just when the season starts I think he can be productive for 2 seasons at least

No way he’s getting 45 pts. 0% chance

Anyways like I said realistically he won’t come here. He wants to win a cup, can see him going to Vegas at 6 mill with the taxes there or Dallas to replace duchene if he leaves etc...

If they're not going to move it forward yet to make the playoffs and grow into contention, then don't sign anybody and just suck for a year or two to land another top five pick. Yet another 80 point season is just a waste of time with mediocre draft positioning to show for it.
Mans would have a meltdown but I’d do it 100%. Definetly an option if teams refuse to trade you Lafraniere etc.. and marner won’t come

Overpay a few scraps for one year deals so you have trade bait but more importantly won’t make you anywhere near a cup contender and you have a shot at a McKenna Stenberg and that Canadian Dman who’s name escapes me and then you add a stud prospect to your already stacked pipeline

Those new guys are off the books as well as holl chiarot tarasenko , another 7 mill added to the cap space , 1 more year with copp after. We’ll have a ton of money to sign Connor etc..

the reason for adding a talented short term contract is 1 - he teaches kids and improves team . 2- is his CAP HIT IS GONE IN 2 YEARS WHEN WE NEED THAT SPACE FOR EDDIE / KASPER / ETC . as opposed to signing a mediocre player long term like a provorov or bennet thatll be beyond prime but still a big cap hit preventing us from locking up young guns like asp and dannysion long term like we locked up sidez n rayz . salaray cap has to be managed
I don't think you understand that Provorov and Bennett are like best case scenarios for many of our prospects.

i wouldnt disagree with that . but i think theres pressure from ownership to make some type effort to improve or the fans will revolt

Apparently Tavares wants 7-7.5 and leafs offering 5 .... anyone be against a 15 mill deal for 2 yrs? Kane would have to drop a line

Kasper larkin raymond
Debrincat Tavares nygard?
Hard no to Tavares even if he was willing to come here (he won't). Even if he does there's no way I'm diminishing Kane's role for that chud. Kane has stepped up and pulled the sled for this team at times. He's a creep in my book but he's a winner. Tavares has never done anything to elevate his team at the NHL or international level.

No thank you to loser Leafs. There's a reason Toronto fans hate pretty much everyone on the team except Knies.

Only sign long contracts for players around Seider's age, and no older than Marner, if it's Marner level player... hell yeah sign him.

Yzerman should not give out multi-year contracts to older players. Keep this team's core young and sign only 1 year deals to Kane's, Perron's or Petry's until these bad contracts fall off; Holl, Tarasenko, Chariot, Compher, Copp. Next year will be the start of THE next level
(I always predicted 2026/27 is when the pressure is on to start winning).

At this point we need to figure out the goalie situation. Cossa needs to have a BIG upcoming year and show real progress. I'm not in panic mode with Cossa yet, but the pressure should be on him next season to prove he's going to be THE GUY. Consistency matters.

I would be very conflicted if Marchand built a rat's nest in Detroit, I'll say that for free. He's nothing more than a talented Avery and I think he's bad for the sport in general.

But holy poopsticks, is he skilled, and he could teach a thing or two to the young guys...

This is going to be a tricky offseason for Yzerman. He's going to hit a worse UFA Lull than last offseason, because he has to be careful with signing UFA contracts. UFA players are going to want stability contracts, whereas Yzerman only has space for short term contracts. Off the top of my head is Marner and maybe Byram is worth long contracts, and I am not sure with Byram because of concussion history, and the fact Yzerman has ASP knocking at the door, and if he becomes what we hope, he's going to get a big contract.

Tricky offseason. It's up to the core and coach if DRWs make the playoffs this upcoming season, I doubt UFA signings this offseason will make an impact.

The pressure officially starts 2026/2027.

He cap space is going up for everyone so getting an rfa through an offersheet is a pipe dream. Been wishing for mctavish for a while but ducks just won’t let him go. Maybe Hague if you offer 7.5 x 7 but I wouldn’t. I think he can be had by trade and he’s been a target of mine with Romanov for a long time
The cap is going up 25%…. Not 100%.
Nobody is giving Hague that contract.

He is a bottom pairing defenseman. Yes he has intriguing upside as 2nd pair. But risky to assume that is a guarantee.

Probably worth 4M-4.5M on open market today.
So maybe 5M-5.6M range with the increases.

Gave an example of how you had to get Hague with an offer sheet. Also said I wouldn’t do it

Could not see Vegas matching 5M. They would take the 1st round pick.

They like going after the big fish. Handing out 5M deals to your 5th defenseman would hinder that. Doubt they have much interest in even retaining him with a significant raise. But we will see…

Maybe?

If they want to go for another big fish Hague and someone like Barbashev will be moved. I expect them to make changes after these playoffs and I do think Hague will be traded and I think he can be had without dealing a 1st unless it’s a 22-32 1st from a contender but I doubt a Tampa , Carolina , Toronto(unless Reilly is moved) type team will give up a 1st and use that cap space they’ll get for just Hague. Could be wrong

He’s definetly someone I’d target but ya not giving up 13th pick , maybe 2nd and chiarot 50% to replace Hague with in Vegas for a year. Wallinder? 5 x 6 contract

I suspect they’ll have suitors for him on the trade market

No to Gavrikov. The guy is turning 30. We need younger players. I’m in on Byram. Trade some combination of the 13th pick, Danielson, Rasmussen, etc… to get him.

We should in no way be giving them a 1st for their 6th D whose ability to actually handle more than 19 minutes a night is as much a hope as it is a fact.
