Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Politics is how Walter’s didn’t win coach of the year- my guess. (Apparently punched a guy last year in Owen sound and that’s how he lost job)

If not for that. He’s my coach of the year no question.

Kitchener’s would’ve been 2nd or 3rd for me. Sure you lost Rehkopf and some other guys but you recruited guys like Humphreys, Pridham, Xu, Ellis and traded for Chromiak.

5 moves that I believe the GM would’ve made not the coach.
Agree about the politics comment regarding Walter's,a 52 point improvement from the previous year by Windsor is almost unheard of and to have Walters not winning coach of the year is shameful and beaten out by 3,the Kitchener coach 14 point improvement, McKee and Hunter 8 point improvement and then Windsor beats the 3 teams by 22 points and that's the 3 teams combined improvement what a joke.

Ellis - absolute nonfactor. Maybe a 3rd liner on avg team.
Xu - bottom pairing 16 yo D man
Humphries and Pridham - adds 1/3 to 1/2 way through season
Chromiak - a teams 3rd import

These guys don't come (via recruitment) and improve if NOT for the coach. Don't forget everyone was expecting Windsor to take a step forward and Kitchener to take a massive step backwards. The coach had them playing way above what was predicted. In the season prediction thread one person had them 5th in the west, and most (80+%) had them 7th or lower, myself included.

They traded away their best scorer pre season - top 5 goals in the league. Lost Hunter B who made his NHL debut last night, and lost their 19 yo import to the AHL and due to mismanagement, to their detriment, played the season with one import.

They didn't add at the deadline, and finished second in the league with 100 pts. This is on the coach, and a deserved winner.

I’d rather lose the popularity contests and win on the ice. If anything comes from the “Coach of the Year” Award it should be Walters wanting to prove a point this evening, and it really seems the room is behind him. I expect the team to come out fired up, and show signs of Games 1 thru 3, and put it away.

Hearing Davis and Spellacy are hoping to come back this series is optimistic, and has me assuming it’s one of them. Which is great, cause we could use some additional speed up front.

Humphreys and Pridham- both over a ppg and lead the team in #1 and 2points per game. Lose those 2 guys and team looks a lot different no doubt. Chromiak 2nd most points for a d man on team.

Biggest thing however has been the rise of the young guys from last year and the play of parsons. Yes you lost some players but some of your younger players took a BIG leap.

Romano +29 pts, Reid +31pts, Lam +22pts, Ellinas ppg went up +0.25

Parsons an mvp calibre season if not for Misa and Lardis. 52gp 37 wins, 5 SO, 0.920sv%, 2.24GAA.

The predictions were before you guys got Pridham, Humpreys and didn’t sell Misaljevic, swick, Andonovski, potentially parsons too like most predicted at the deadline.

Very good points by both posters.

Well rumblings that 1 player may be a game time decision. Maybe even take warmups. Time will tell I guess?
You have to understand that Walters came here with baggage. In this case record is not the only thing the league would look at.
Does this mean another player is injured (new injury) and a game time decision, or one of the already injured players could be back?

So extrapolated over the year that's 80 and 75 pts for humph and Prid. 80 is good enough for a tie for 24th in league scoring. There's no star power on the team.

Chromiak was 34th in scoring among defensemen. Again, no star power.

Yes the 17 yo age group is quality and made headway. Reid is an absolute stud and outside of Parekh, Dickinson, and Schafer I'm taking ahead of the field when you consider he has 2 years left. But you don't win in this league when the 17s are your top talent group... somehow outside of Parsons (most important postition) this team came second with a 100 point with essentially a bunch of nobodies relative to the top teams.

Was tough to watch that Loss on Wednesday, Team did not come prepared to play a desperate Kitchener team with their season and some with their OHL Careers on the line. I am Hoping the Spitfires can take it up a notch in game 5 @ home, dont want to lose and go back to the Aud for game 6. Positives about Game 4 was Costanzo was solid again and team defense wasn't too bad just couldn't solve Parsons and didnt play with enough intensity.

Hope to see our top offensive players return to form after having their first game of these playoffs where they didn't produce offensively and got shut down. Expecting a rebound game from everyone and want to see this closed out to tonight to get much needed rest and recovery with all these injuries.

Let bring it tonight boys!!
Go Spits go

Oh obviously no superstars like the London crew and the Windsor duo but a great overall team this year.

Humph and prid not mega stars but have clearly been very nice additions for free to the team that’s my whole point

Windsor should be looking to score fast and often tonight.
They don't want to give Rangers any positive thoughts and make this a long series.
Game 6 or 7 is not a good scenario...

At this point a game 7 in this series Is almost certain, losing a player or two a game. We are pretty much icing a Junior B team with a few OHL players on it. I've never seen anything like this in all my life, talk about shitty luck and timing. Half the regulars are out, it's insane. Good luck to this team on pulling off a miracle win on home ice tonight.
