Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

A hope for a return this series but... nothing concrete. Hopefully will know more Friday.
Caught Davis radio interview with Beller, Bell asked Davis if this was a day to day thing, and he didn’t give much. Davis said he’s taking it a day at a time and hopes to be back sooner rather than later.

Bell noted that Spellacy may return before Davis, sounded like that could be any day, but that was just my interpretation.

I think it was TheOHLPodcast with Farwell and Meagher this week... they said that teams are often quieter than normal about injuries during the playoffs. I know Walters was fairly open about them during the regular season but I can see a "zip the lip" happening right now. That said, if they're back on Friday, great, but play it by ear.

Team looked completely disinterested in playing tonight. For whatever reason, but cleaning this up fri is almost a must. There was no traffic, little hustle and even less compete. These are lessons to be learned and lets hope they did…
If anyone told me the Spits be up 3-1 with 8 regulars hurt id have laughed at them. Can they win? Of course. Theres a lot of tired bodies on that bench and it may be starting to show. Get it done fri and get a bit of rest!

Windsor 's shutout loss last night at Kitchener was the time in 5 exhibition, 68 regular, 9 playoff games 82 in total that the Spits have been shutout this season quite the record imo.
While disappointed in losing last night still have confidence they will get things done on Friday.
Wanted to a get a split at Kitchener at the least and that was achieved now on to Friday.
Would love to play a team with 8 guys out 5 regulars at our home rink unfortunately bad fortune going only 1 way so far.
Spits are missing 72G,131A,203 pts from their lineup due to injuries Kitchener 30goals and 38 assists big difference.
Regroup and get things done is my motto.

Wonder why OHL is going to 3 imports? With new NCAA rules you might get more US kids, certainly draftd more, now another import allowed. Odd direction to head

Maybe to account for the handful of CHL players who might go NCAA instead of playing an OA year in the CHL?

And / or maybe with expansion in mind?

It would help avoid the watering down that may happen.

With the feared exodus of 19yr Olds and OA's to the NCAA it gives the teams another option to back fill the open positions. The big question is there enough ohl caliber talent that will come from the import talent pool that is willing to come over?

That is a good question. Middling imports vs middling NA players? Might just go with the NA players?

Another benefit of three imports is that it should somewhat increase the value of an import at the trade deadline. A contending team with two stud imports could be in the market for a third. In years past, that team(s) wouldn’t be an option thus lessening the pool of possible destination teams.

I'd love to see the OA rule change too. Allow for teams to carry 4 OA,s if one of them is a goalie.

I would be on board with that change as well but not sure there will be enough OA's available to make that anymore than another option.

The rich teams will benefit the most with the ability to pay the costs of carrying more imports and OA's.

Windsor didn't complete the sweep.
Top lime didn't score and thry have little secondary scoring.
Joey played well other than 2 goals which he probably wants back
Refs were consistent. Though Rangers wanted a few more calls.
Who knows if that happens in game 5.
44 seemed to be extra forward. Was in offensive zone a lot.
Hopefully Windsor didn't wake up Kitchener. That be a not wanted.

I just read the final date to add from your protected list is 1 month after the trade deadline for that year. Speaking about the OHL find it in the rule book good luck. The secret roster rules never to be published to the fans lol
Maybe he was placed on their final roster before that deadline?

Agreement with the player he’d report once his USHL season was done? Didn’t want to bail on the Gamblers?

The WHL is the same. You can't add someone after Feb 10 from outside your protected list, but can activate someone from your protected list. .

Re Imports:
Teams are hesitant to have guys eat an OA and Import Spot… but what if you have another Import Spot? I’d say Joey and Kennedy are locks next year. If anything here I think it puts McNamara in question.

Is Eichler that star studded defensemen, that we’d keep as an OA/Import? Since Sobolev wasn’t, I can’t imagine Eichler is. BUT, with the rule change you basically throw out that Import element. Is Eichler valuable as an OA? Sure. More than McNamara? I’d say so.

How they start the year and how they end may be 2 different things. If they feel they can contend they will make moves. Not worried who the OA's are in September.

100% they know they’ll lose some incredible talent the last thing they want to do is water down the league

Politics is how Walter’s didn’t win coach of the year- my guess. (Apparently punched a guy last year in Owen sound and that’s how he lost job)

If not for that. He’s my coach of the year no question.

Kitchener’s would’ve been 2nd or 3rd for me. Sure you lost Rehkopf and some other guys but you recruited guys like Humphreys, Pridham, Xu, Ellis and traded for Chromiak.

5 moves that I believe the GM would’ve made not the coach.
