Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

#44 would have held up and let Horner beat him to the puck. No chance for injury. That could be described as “don’t put yourself in bad situations” but also not how the game should be played.

44 barely goes in any corners or by the boards. Avoids the opposition..

Seeing that again makes me wonder what the officials are seeing. Push happened almost 3 feet before goal line and wasn’t like he crossed checked him. If Dickinson doesn’t try and turn he just runs straight into the boards standing up. The push didn’t make him fall. Oh well it is what it is. Suspensions are like the catch rule in NFL. No one really knows what they are. I thought Davis elbow was more suspension worthy then Greentree play

It was Walters sending a message and Costanzo not taking well to that, initially. Whether that's mental, stubbornness, or something else, I don't know. If/when I have time tonight, I'll post the quote from YouTube's post-game. The more I learn, the more I think Costanzo is gone after this season.
I wouldn’t be surprised, and I would be at the same time.

Just did some stat digging, and found it interesting he’s third all time in Spitfires goalies, in both Games Played and Wins (DiPietro First, Engleage Second in both categories). 28GP, 17 Wins shy of Mikey’s records. Even if moved at next years deadline he could be First All Time in those. Now more notable stats, like GAA, Sv% not so hot. 25th in Save % (near Piironin, below of Incze and Medina), 19th in GAA, where Froggett oddly sits 15th.

Presumably Protas moves on. Joey’s OA Spot could be used for a high end forward, with Froggett/Newlove/Windbiel battling for the crease, in which currently, I see Froggett being just fine for.

Greentree suspended 2 games returns game 1 of playoffs.
League is a joke.
Kid robbed of chance of 50 goals
Honestly, I’m surprised AFTER review he got more than two minutes, let alone two games.

His arms were almost at full extension, and it was more of a push than a cross-check.

I get protecting guys, but A) Dickinson wasn’t hurt. B) It wasn’t malicious C) Guys at this level, should be smart enough to not put themselves in vulnerable positions. Whether 16 or 20.

Dickinson, a great player, wasn’t in a vulnerable position. Got a push and his blade popped off, the end. His blade doesn’t come off, Greentrees already at 50, and we’re discussing him sitting for rest this weekend

This would be nice. They used to do full video explanation but stopped, either last season or this season.
Because they’re handing out suspensions like candy. They’re trying to prepare players for the NHL and are a step away from making this a no-contact league.

I’m not saying let’s have every game evolve into the PBO Fiasco, but they’ve already limited fights, limited how you can hit, and are now finding ways to take incidental contact in puck battles and toss guys out for accidental slewfoots. It’s getting absolutely ridiculous.

Couldn't one also say ...."gus at this level should be smart enough to not make contact with a player in a vulnerable position?" I mean that's fair too is it not?

Sure. But Dickinson wasn’t really in a vulnerable position. Pushing a guy as you both battle for puck possession 5+ feet from the boards really isn’t anything unheard of.

I’ve watched Parekh cross Check guys in the face harder than what Greentree did to Dickinson here.

I am not disagreeing with you, I was just being a bit of an ass with a devils advocate - It's unfortunate that that hit is what will cost him a chance for 50

Sure it was a questionable call and I feel for Greentree with what has to be a big disappointment but unfortunately my opinion changes nothing. I've tried very hard this year to move past these calls and just keep reminding myself that the officiating in this league sucks but that it is across the board and it will never likely change.
Again very disappointing for Greentree and Windsor fans so I guess all you can really hope for is he uses this as motivation in the playoffs.

Wonder who plays tonight and who starts in net? I could see a real skeleton crew heading to London tomorrow.

I’d roll out the Skeleton crew today. If Protas and Christoforo are 98%, I’m sitting them too. They’re not going to suffer missing one week of gameplay.

Plus it’s looking less likely Sarnia is our matchup with Soo’s W last night, although, I think Sarnia is ideal. A W for Sarnia keeps them in contention of 7th, and if we beat them with a lesser lineup, that’s demoralizing for them.

Can we increase our number of 08’s yet? Or are all the Jr B teams still playing? Cause if we can role extras, i’m using Belchetz, Garden, Lemieux, Hicks and Robinson.

Abraham/Morneau/Garden
Spellacy/Davis/Lemieux
Belchetz/Nesbitt/McNamara
Costello/Gaymes/Winegard

Walton/Kennedy
Woodall/Hicks
Robinson/Eichler

Newlove/Costanzo

I'd sit Kennedy and let wingard play D.
I think you can only play 4 but not sure the rule once teams have been eliminated, Newlove and Robinson?
Might even consider sitting Beltchez for the weekend. He looks like he needs a reenergize weekend.

Lasalle still in the playoffs so nobody available from them.

This is 2 important games for not getting players hurt ( or suspended) so even if someone is dressed they can play lesser minutes and then the 3rd and 4th line players play a good portion of the minutes.

Nothing to be gained that is worth missing playoff games for. Be safe.

Haven't chimed in since before the London match. Even with players out and not much on the line, it feels good to beat the knights as they haven't lost too many games this season and always good to beat our biggest rival.

Sucks to lose greentree for the last two games and see him miss the chance @ 50 goals, but in all honesty a needless crosscheck from behind, is it a 5 or suspension in my opinion, nope but it's the OHL in 2025 and that's going to be called now unfortunately, kudos to Dickinson on the embellishment.

Will be interested to see the line up come tonight's contest. Will some of these injured players draw In or rest until the playoffs Would start Costanzo tonight and Froggett in his home city tomorrow versus the knights.

As for Tonight, the Sting are going to come out on a mission already playing playoff hockey in do or die situation. It's a good way for the spits to prepare for their playoffs. Hope to see a strong effort and not taking these games off.

Go Spitfires!!!

The suspension is a joke, that's just bad.

If Spits win tonight, it will most certainly be the SOO in the 1st round. Out of OS, Sarnia SOO, they are the hardest matchup.

Even if Spits lose, it will probably be the SOO anyway as they play at home against Sarnia on Sunday and I can't see Sarnia winning that game.

I would rest Kennedy, Cristoforo, Morneau and Protas.
