Windsor Spitfires 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Im content with the trades hes made I think it will help our team this year and next. The only thing I wish now is if we could swap future mid picks so we get a 4th and 5th round pick this year. The new NCAA rules will make the draft more interesting we should jump on that opportunity. Other than that I would mind getting anything back for guys like Gaymes or Winegard but the chances of that will be impossible lol

Bowler made 1 move.
Minimum done is what he evaluated the team.
Onto the season..
Actually made 2 moves. Strengthened the D with hopefully a player returning for his OA season and got more depth at Forward. Both moves needed. Just have to wait and see if they were the right players.

Some mentioned that they should get an experienced back-up G. Usually, an experienced G would be an 05, That made no sense, since they would then have 2 OA Goaltenders next year.

I’m in minority here but if they weren’t going to make a move to go for it now and feel next year is there year then i think they should have sold a bit to get in some picks they could use next year to make the big moves. I felt they should have upgraded more to go for it now. We were in same situation couple years ago and they year they thought was their year didn’t turn out too well. I’ve always felt that if your team arrives quicker then expected then you got to just go. Next year is never guaranteed

Another move

I'll miss Martin. I know he wasn't everyone's cup o' tea, but 6'6 225lb enforcers aren't easy to come by anymore. Yep, he was undisciplined at times, but he chipped in some offence, defended the guys, had some historical Spits' lineage, and seemed like a good dude. Would he have been around next season? Probably not. Would I have preferred a deal in the summer? Yep. It is what it is, though. Hopefully Costello can bring some jam on the fourth line.

So they bring in McNamara in for depth on bottom 6 to turn around and trade a player on bottom 6 so now they are in same position before the trades (forward wise). As long as Garden doesn’t sit more or even Gaymes then it is what it is.

Costello is 6' 2" and a 07 center. That helps with the time line and it looks to me as a move for next year and beyond.

There's no guarantee Martin gets the same return in the offseason, either. If Costello becomes a valuable two-way player, and the picks turn out even remotely, it's a good situation.

I'll give Bowler credit - he checked all of the boxes for this deadline.

Bowler's last move is for the Spits future, gaining a young player and two fairly high picks, thumbs up, well done
