No chance they are trading Cristoforo. He's a big part of the success this season. I could see Manzo and picks. Or trade Abraham and use the picks received for him + Manzo and some of their own picks for a d man.

Manzo + 2nd + 2 3rds + 2 4ths or something could get you a Petrovski type defenseman.

I know there has been talk on here about Abraham being moved for Smith, but I keep wondering if Bowler would move him separately, should OA for OA be needed. If there's one thing Bowler has done over the last three seasons it's keep us guessing.

It will cost us a good young player or several trade chips to improve our OA'S this year. Anything spent should be a player returning next year or returning import upgrade over Eichler. Morneau and Abraham are both locals. 1 Windsor and 1 Detroit. Not sure Bowler deals either at this stage.
Does Eichler and picks for Nordh make any sense? He'd cost a fair bit, but likely cheaper than a non-import like Pinelli and just as good.

That might make some sense from a Windsor POV, depending on two things ... 1. actual cost... and 2. if Windsor can get the big, crease-clearing Dman they want. They can't give up Eichler without getting a tough, physical replacement as he's one of the first to step in for his teammates if something happens.

Don't see enough progression in Lavigne to make the O unfortunately. I did like whatI saw in Spicer during camp. Seems to be a big physcal guy that is body first, not everything that came his way

The Alriksson deal (2,3,3) probably marks the low end of his trade value, as Nordh is a better player. If there's no other competition then maybe 2,2,3. If there's another bidder, then maybe a 4th pick is needed. That's my best guess anyways.

Who do you think they target for a big defender? There's a few out there.

You'd probably have to offer up a younger forward for Nordh, too. Unless Bowler swings and gets Gibson and Nordh, then it's a guessing game.

As for the target, I posted this a while back...

Petrovsky would be nice if they can't get Smith, but I wonder if OS is going to let Petrovsky go for anything less than a few high picks and a younger talent?!

Would Flint want an arm/leg for Blake Smith?

IF NB is rebuilding like there are suggestions of, maybe Ride's an option?

Bishop or Glavin would be nice from Saginaw. I doubt they'd give up Parekh for anything less than Konnor Smith got.

I'd be pretty shocked if Petrovski commanded a player and picks to acquire. I would think a pick package with maybe a conditional pick or two on him returning for an OA season would get it done. Owen Sound has depth to allow the movement of both Konnor Smith and Petrovski so that shouldn't require a player to come back in either deal. Unless the acquiring team wants to insert a player to reduce the draft picks in the deal I don't see that being necessary.

I could be wrong but unless the market is really that hot, I don't see him as the type to command a big trade package to get. I like the player and think he's good at a lot of things but really no elite traits. Just a steady, versatile top 4 Dman. Can play both sides of the ice too.

As for Owen Sound, assuming both Smith and Petrovski depart, the only player not returning would be OA Leonard for next season and they would still have 6 D rostered. I would think picks would likely be more attractive.

I remember that a Blake Smith deal fell through at the last minute last year, so they're probably open to moving him. I don't think the price would be too crazy, but the Spits have some pretty good OA's.

The Hounds would certainly take a Jack Nesbitt for Nordh, but that seems a bit pricey. I honestly think they would take a deal of just picks for him. Something like 2,2,3,4 is my prediction unless there's a bidding war.

It could be something as simple as Abraham for Smith, with picks thrown in.

Nesbitt for Nordh wouldn't likely happen. Windsor's going to want a major 06 if they move him, like Luchanko. Nesbitt's almost at a point-per-game pace in a breakout season; no telling what he'll do next season.

Where we’re kind of handcuffed is moving forwards IMO. Sure Nesbitt would fetch a good return, but him and Manzo are the only active 07’s we have, and how important will Nesbitt be with an additional year of experience next year?

I’d rather have Nesbitt over Nordh right now. He’s got chemistry with linemates, he’s improved, he’s producing, I don’t think he’d improve with a change of scenery.
Nordh next year if returning would be an OA/Import spot. If you have both open and you already got the guy, sure. But we have a chance to add two quality players, one OA (05) and one Import. if he doesn’t return? You just traded a first round pick with O experience for an Import rental, that still doesn’t move us anywhere closer to beating London (on paper)
No way I’m letting Nesbitt slide for that.

Nesbitts just under a point a game. He’ll be a PPG+ player next year if he continues his current trajectory.

It’s not like Abraham and Morneau are the direct cause for Nesbitt’s current success either.

Upfront I see us losing Abraham, Morneau, Outwater, (Stewart)

Backend: Mathurin, Eichler, Winegard.

Our key players are relatively young, and our core is returning. Of the names above, Mathurin is the only one I’d say is untouchable if we want success this year.

I’d be a little bummed to see Abraham go, I’d be real bummed to see Morneau go. But for the right deal that improves us next year, sure. I don’t think either move the needle on a run this year.

A good gm will make moves to improve the team. Not being worried if the kid is a fan favourite or not.

I think the team will have to be blown away to move Morneau. He's a local kid, having a career season, playing strong 200-foot hockey, and is a staple in the community. You don't move an asset like that unless "we had no choice."

Nordh would only be a rental this year. Signed already and drafted out of Sweeden means chance as an OA not liklely besides an import taking a OA spot if he was returned. I still think any moves with significant pieces and or picks has to return a player coming back next year. Assets will be eaten quickly replacing likely 2 imports and 2 OA spots in addition to bolstered a soft D core. Yes the OA and imports could end up 4 D which is fine. Nesbitt has to stay imo. Other untouchables this year are all the 08's drafted and signed. Add Joey in my no touch list and I'm open to move anyone else with next year in mind as to go for it.

Well I understand that some or many may disagree, I believe 2 of our 06's need to be moved before next year. With Davis Woodall Cristoforo not being drafted and who knows whether Chicago or LA wants to hold back entry contracts starting, it is possible that all 4-5 could be OA candidates in 26-27 meaning we give 1-2 of them away for less return than now or off season after next year. We have a really poor 05 and 07 group by numbers. Get whike the getting is good need to also think 2-3 years down the road with thus stellar 08 group wanting to be in contention. Think bigger if you want to competitive annually.

Part of me still believes this year is a better shot than next year. Especially if you're interested in being competitive annually. Of course the idea of being competitive annually means Bowler needs to start poaching guys like Kitchener/London. Bowler probably won't be on the level of those teams but at least to be a threat. Lack of 07s kind of hampers the idea of anything after 25-26. Having picks this year most likely won't impact anything you do next year unless you trade that 09 1st rounder. We saw how that panned out in January of 2023 moving Miedema for 20 games of Wright. Moving Abraham to bring in Smith is more likely a lateral move especially if it costs you more picks. Gibson would cost a lot and I am not in favor of moving Nesbitt but the idea of making a run next year at the cost of an 09 1st doesn't make sense either.

Still think not making an attempt this year because of bad decisions in January 2023 isn't a good look either. Next year to make a run it's more about Belchetz making a huge leap, Spellacy making a bigger jump from this year and hoping Protas is back. If only one of those things happen they probably aren't in a position to make a big run.

The reason I disagree, is for similar reasoning. I feel moving them before next season is premature. Now I’m not saying let’s ride out every player we draft. However, I personally expect Greentree and Spellacy to both be AHL ready by their OA year. We could have a likely OA 06’ group of Woodall, Christoforo and Davis all with two extra years of experience. I don’t see any of them regressing. Now let’s say Greentree or Spellacy come back for an OA year, for whatever reason. Then we have some really nice trade bait, with a much higher trade value then they’d have this offseason IMO.

We do have poor 05 & 07 numbers. I don’t disagree there, I wonder if there’s intent behind it. Good 06 & 08 draft numbers. Allows us to bring in the guys we need from those poor number odd years, while building around the guys from the good evens.

I’d like to fill an 05’ spot on D this deadline, but the idea that we can bring in a pair of 05’s and not be forced to move out someone that gets mixed reviews is a nice benefit.

This year feels like 21/22 with next year set up for 22/23.

21/22: The, “Oh this is going better than we thought”. Early season pickups of Maillet and Christopoulos that didn’t really feel much different than picking up Thomas Johnston.
We moved Ladd & McDonald at the deadline mainly for picks and Currie, while grabbing that tough D Man in Perrott and goalie depth with Onuska for a 6th and conditional 4th.

22/23: We were the team to beat and went all in, acquiring Holmes, Harrison, Wright, and Dionicio. (And Aiden Castle but let’s forget about it). Sending out any valued 05’s, O Flaherty, Ride, Meidema…

I still think if we bought in Xhekaj in 21/22 it would’ve made the difference. Would’ve cost an extra second, fourth and a player than Perrott, but. Hindsight’s 20/20.

I just wonder if Bowlers looking at this year the same way as that less stretch and going, well rather than a slight buy, while we’re here… we should go for it.

The problem is, I don’t even know if there’s enough top D men in the league we could acquire that match up against London’s Dickinson/Bonk/Allen/Wooley.
I like our D group, but even wearing Spits colored glasses, it’s clear Mathurin/Christoforo/Woodall/Walton aren’t a match. And NHL teams view that the same.

We’re looking at 12 NHL Drafted players vs 3.

Tough to go all in when that’s your competition above you. And going out and grabbing a 1-2 D man, and another 2 elite forwards (which would cost everything we have), doesn’t put you in that much better of a spot you’re in right now.

Either way, it’ll be a fun deadline. The Eastern is wide open, the Western is the London show, with Kitchener/Windsor/Erie on the outside with a chance of “let’s pull off an upset”.

Merry Christmas! Let’s get this trade freeze over with lol

My 06 issues are simple. We have to replace Mathurin next year. Walton is big but hardly a big scare for other teams at this point. That leaves Woodall, Cristoforo, Manzo. No tough physical presence. How do we keep all our current D and yet improve? We all know are our limitations. 2 years from now Cristoforo, Manzo Woodall are not suddenly going to become or be able to be physical enough for playoff hockey. Name 1 top 6 Knight D that they would trade to Windsor to improve their D? Zero. Hicks excluded. London has no OA D, no import D. 2- 07, 4-06, 2-05. Their entire D could return next year along with Medvedev who is only a 07!! Allen and Bonk could move on to AHL, not NHL ready yet but easily could return as OA'S. If that does not scare anyone it scares me.

Re London D,I would be stunned if all 3 returned to the O next season talking about 1st rounders Bonk (19),Dickinson (18) and Allen (19) 5th rounder considering they all signed NHL contracts,in fact would not surprise if all 3 go pro with Bonk and Dickinson in the NHL and Allen in the AHL at worst.
My prediction all 3 don't return won't shock London management imo.

Greentree just as likely to move on then for your same reasoning as he already signed this year and ELC slid 1 year Spellacy hasn't signed yet but both will be 19 as of Sept 15/25 so neither will be slide eligible next year regarding their NHL ELC's

They're fine. Both are 06s and can still slide with signed ELCs. It's OAs that don't slide if they have an ELC contract.
