I'm a Greyhounds fan that was at the game today. I see a lot of hating on the vets, but on the bright side, I thought that Jacob Maillet was fantastic. That's the best I've seem him play.

I agree with OHLTG that Costanzo wasn't as bad as it seems. They Greyhounds had a lot of prime chances in those 19 shots and there was definitely some puck luck.

I thought the Spits biggest issue was goal scoring skill. They had good speed, competed hard defensively, and caused a lot of turnovers. It just seemed that where the Greyhounds got by that last defender or potted chances in tight, the Windsor forwards were turning the puck over, missing the net, or settling for outside shots. I was sitting on the edge of my seat dreading a prime scoring chance on several occasions and they rarely came to fruition.
Just to piggy back your post again and the lack of goal scoring from the forwards. The issue is they aren't putting enough pucks on net

SOG
Abraham 9
Struthers 0
Martin 0
Castle 7
Spellacy 5
Morneau 7

Yesterday was the first game I got to see and man was it a bit rough.

Joey had no chance except maybe on that first one. I see lots of glimpses of hope from some guys but then they’ll make a bad play costing us big time. Eichler following barker into the corner on that 2nd one is a prime example. The a goal off the skates, and a couple one timer blasts.

First period spits were groving just couldn’t score.

Positives? Emotion from Dionicio and Greentree. It can hurt you at times but I like seeing guys going out there and clearly caring, willing to do whatever it takes to score, win and protect teammates.

I liked what I saw of Winegard. Nesbitt needs some adjustment time. I’m still high on Martin. He’s blocking shots and had some passes that set up some key chances. Eichler appears to be the best Import since Sobolev - which isn’t saying much, but a start.

I still don’t understand the Michelone logic. If we were going for it, or a contender, I get rolling with an older goalie in case something happens to Joey.

Is this team better than their record? Will we finish higher than where we are now? I think so. But god forbid something happen to Costanzo, why not roll Froggett to get him experience at this level. There’s no doubt reps are important but also OHL Goaltending is a big step up from Jr. B. I think occasional reps here and practicing with OHL players would benefit his long term success.

Negatives? Too many odd man rushes, guys wide open in front. (I know he scored), but Colton Smith drives me crazy.

Peer - Morneau - Smith line is a head scratcher to me. Maybe they’re boys off the ice and they’re trying to put that chemistry out there but from the stands it looks like two of the strongest skaters on the spits with a guy following them two steps behind. I wasn’t overly impressed by Castle but I feel his style of play fits that line better.

More of my opinions lol. Smith is so disinterested, where is Peers speed? To many passes in the O zone. Terrible coverage in our zone, literally no one watches the back door, guys slip in there often and are wide open. Systems are a mess, guys seem lost.

Agreed. I’m trying to give Coaching a chance. And I know we’re hitting a rebuild, but with what we had come back, I expected a more middle of the pack team, and right now, we’re a ways away. Looking at the standings as well as the product on the ice.

I think Christopoulos will help, but like Abraham in last years playoffs… he’d make a difference but wouldn’t be the difference.

Jodoin as an OA was fine with me to protect rookies and stand up for guys, allowing us to move one of the others (as they all hold more trade value)… however Jodoin has been doing nothing other than costing us penalty minutes. I say sit him until they come to a conclusion. I wouldn’t want to burn a card on him at this point.

1-4 is a rough start, especially when the 1 is an OT win against the other conference.

We’re 0-3 in division play, and haven’t even seen the spirit yet.

Wonder what Dents issues were in Flint… my guess is they let Smith ride it out and give him at least one full season as a “chance”, but if the goal isn’t a Top 4 Pick, in the 2024 draft, something needs to change.

Given all of the changes in the off-season, unless Smith steps down on his own, I don't see anything happening behind the bench. The players know the talent is there, they just need to gel and execute. That takes time when you have this many new faces. It's frustrating but there are glimpses during games.

I'd rather have a few misses and still find a Peer or DiGiacinto than not look at all.

You'd have to ask Mississauga that. Why did 20 teams pass on Peer in his draft season? I don't know but I'm glad we got him now.
Because despite being fast, smart and skilled, Peer was tiny (maybe 5’5”) and way too tentative. He grew taller and stronger in the lost year (2020-21) and made something of himself.

Still way too tentative. Doesn't throw hits and looks to avoid any contact at all thru out game. Doesn't engage

Ive got to disagree wholeheartedly! There werent that many unusual changes in players. Talent isnt there when it doesnt understand how to use it. Glimpses of talent tell me it not being used correctly and thats on coaching. This coach has to form his own systems and part of that is based on the talent he has. I dont believe he understands how to judge the talent he has to form systems for them. Thats why it all looks so messed up. Open guys, extra passes, missed assignments, failing to pick up the opponent…. Imho this coach isnt prepared and that is also exposing the weaknesses the D coach has.

No the players have been convinced by coaches and management the talent is there but it really isn't. This has more to do with teenagers having a microphone in their face and reciting lines. They're still really young to understand what is real talent and what management tells them. You can't tell me if they continue to lose games that they won't finally realize that they really don't have the talent.

Agreed there's a reason that someone who shall not be named thought they were going to shock a lot of people. Going into the year it was Abraham/Smith/Spellacy/Greentree/Maillet/Morneau/Castle/Peer and trusted vet Struthers were returning up front. That covers 9 of your top 12 not including Christopolous and yes we haven't addressed the D. We always knew the D was going to be an issue but the other issue is they can't score goals.

I am biased I do like their D coach. Maybe he isn't the answer but I question how much talent he actually has to work with. Maybe he should be better but lets look at the players overall he has had to work with.

Woodall has been good. Only plus player on the team right now. D is a personal problem. Too many offensive minded plays from our top 2 and lack of experience with the rest of them. Jodoin well we have spelled it out. More games started as a forward than on D through his career here. Was often just a filler for short bench. Not overager material and would likely be hard to move for more than a late late pick if you have an interested party.
Eichler goes for the physical play but often gets caught out of position overplaying to make a hit. Some good promise from Walton especially considering experience level in the O.

Hes a great person for sure. But you have to adjust to your talent. If the guys are inexperienced you keep it simple to start, build confidence. All the while working the future systems in practice. This team refuses to do that. Bad pinches, terrible D zone coverage, lack of moving bodies out front and simple stuff like when and when not to shoot.

Agree about Peer he was size in his draft year, has been a pretty good free agent signing .
Game day Windsor vs Kingston.
Windsor trying to snap a 2 game losing streak, even worse both home defeats.
No doubt Kingston forward and former Spitfire Ethan Miedema will be ramped up for this game, along with OA dman Jacob Holmes.
Interesting stat going into this game,Spits last year were 10-0 vs the East here at home, only win thus far this season came against North Bay another East conference team,so make it 11 in a row, plus the last time they played Kingston before that was in 2020 in March and Windsor won that one on a Sunday 10-2.
Because of cancelled season due to Covid, following season no games against the East
and last season, the last game Windsor lost at home vs a East conference team was Feb 6,2020 vs Hamilton.
As for tonight I hope Costanzo gets the start want no part of Michelone, as for Jodoin back in,can't answer that yet, otherwise see the same as we saw vs Sault St. Marie.

I'd imagine Michelone gets one start this weekend; is it better to do it tonight or a game on the road, which are in notoriously tough rinks?
I would bring up Froggett to start one of the weekend games,Costanzo goes tonight, depending on amount of work Joey gets tonight will also be in play as to weekend duty.

Spits need to do something to replenish picks, that Shane Wright deal really cleared the cupboards...
The Spits and SOO have the exact same amount of 2nd round picks for the next 5 years, and the Spits have more 3rds. I would have thought the SOO had more picks stock piled. No question, Bowler will be acquiring more 2nd's this season while I expect the SOO to be buyers and trade some of their 2nd's.

Another game. Hoping for a more complete effort tonight from all players.

As much as I would love to say let's tank and get the highest pick possible, even if Bowler does trade off players I still want to see the Spitfires win every game, I dont watch my hockey team play to lose. Anything is possible in Hockey if you work together as a squad and play the right way, we havent seen that for a full 60 Yet this season. Goaltending has been pretty bad so far not that our team defense is all that great, offence has been Meh so far. Alot of players leave you wanting more so far. Still early in the season tho so hoping we see a different team out there tonight.

Go Spitfires!!

Agree, don't care what the score is ( sure I want them to win) but if they give full effort and lose, I can live with that.
