Draft tonight. Really only have the potential to pick one OHL ready player with their 1st round pick tonight. Not picking again until 6th round will mean some slim pickins.
I don't follow MM hockey so I look forward to GermanSpitfire's critique of the player the Spits pick tonight. Always nice to have a trusted opinion onboard.
Actually they have 1 pick in the 5th,95th overall and 1 pick in the 6th-120th

Yep, they had no picks until the sixth round BUT the 6th from Flint in the Coulson Pitre deal turned into a 5th. I haven't been able to find the conditions/reasons.

Only speculating, the 15th rounder was for the rights to Pitre, the 6th rounder was for Pitre signing with Flint, might have changed to a 5th if said player played 2 years or picked up 60 points in 2 years, again speculating though deals like this happen all the time re conditions.

I just know that the 6th was listed as conditional and moved up to a 5th at some point.

BTW, the Windsor Star did their annual "local prospects" thing and Marentette (who was previously mentioned on here) is rated rounds 3-6. A 6'2 180 stay-at-home, feisty Dman. Kind of sounds ideal.
Re Marentette ,which is why I say Windsor drafts him with their 5th round pick at 95 if he is still available, especially if they draft a forward with their 1st round pick at 20.

I'm not revisiting that trade. However Pitre is a perfect example of how even a 4th round pick is not promised ice in year 1. He wanted out for that reason. I don't blame Bowler at the time accomodating him. I blame the league rules dressing 16 yr olds. What is wrong with 4 or 5 regularly in the lineup. Supposed to be a development league than let them develop. Morneau made the team as a 18 yr old 15th rounder. Maybe max 8 rounds would cut down the trade price for rentals and allow players free agency to get in the league as a 17 yr old with someone instead of these rights which penalize the development imo.

Just a guess so holds little value but I think they want the youngins sheltered to a point. If a team could dress 10 first year players they might and it could lead to competitive or safety issues.
But I would like to see more flexibility.
JrB n C ate even more strict.
I dunno if good or bad but they have made concessions in recent history to bump up the #.

Still want a big feisty Dman with first pick. ANY of the later picks im working the hell outta the phones looking for US born bodies who might be willing to come here. Realistically you likely dont have much room for that many anyway. Youll have room for 16 year olds for sure. Get some size and grit that will report and give the team a chance to reload quickly. From what ive seen of the 1st rnd speculation theres a ton of forwards coming off the board, if at our pick you can still grab say a fifth rated D man i say grab him!!

Well Kitchener got demolished by London, shows just had bad the Spitfires were in that series, a huge embarrassment. A bad look on the coaching staff who did nothing to adapt in that series.

There is no part II on the Wright deal. They spent enough assets for a measly 24 games of him and almost nothing in the playoffs. Maybe Kingston gets first dibs on a player that is going to be traded, but they'd still have to pay up.

If Caden Taylor somehow lands to the Spits that will be huge. Highly doubt he falls to 20th.

Yeah - Taylor will be long gone. I was shocked he lasted as long as he did in Brocks mock.

I was going to select Nolan Jackson - but once I realized no-one selected Taylor he was the obvious choice.

There are 3 sides to every story Spits side, Pitre's side and the truth. I find the idea of guaranteed ice time extremely far fetched just based on having zero hockey for 18 months. Flint had a very good roster as well and they figured it out for him. Regardless of what you want to believe the organization valued Birkett more than Pitre. Birkett has played 25 games in 2 years. Huge miss what ever way you want to spin it..

Defense wasn't impressive either in series..

Clearly Pitre didn't want to be here so they obliged him and his agent, who clearly had a relationship with Flint as this past draft they selected his brother Kaden a forward in the 1st rd.
How can fault Bowler is beyond me,a player with 0 OHL,average camp, didn't play for over a year because of covid at the time, plus now 2 years gone by and who has been the better and more successful team in that time frame, not close.
And now tonight Spits pick a 5th rounder to complete that trade of a prospect not proven who asked out.
Flint with the selection of his brother Kaden in the 1st could have had Christoforo as they were selecting 4 picks earlier, then in the 2nd at 33 they picked forward but have had Greentree who went 34th,and then in the 3rd they took a dman at 45,then Windsor took Spellacy at 63.
The younger Pitre had 7G,4A in 63 games, the other 2 picks had 6pts combined for a total of 17,while Christoforo had 41 points,Greentree 45 and Spellacy 17 which equaled the Flint players chosen combined.
And yet u question Bowler.
Funny we hear nothing but crickets from te Costanzo trade a 4th rounder and all did was finish 5th best for average and save per centage in the league and the youngest too at 17.
Yeah we should listen to you Razor lol.

Birkett was signed early summer after being at a camp tryout that Pitre chose
not to attend.
Besides he wanted to sign Pitre didn't big difference

Man, you mention one little "FYI" and all heck breaks loose. If I didn't know better, people want to argue about this for the 20th time...

Draft starts in 40 min. Let's see what happens!

Jack Nesbitt is our guy.

I actually profiled Nesbitt for Brock’s mock draft. Here’s what I wrote:

First thing that jumps out when talking about Nesbitt is his size, Nesbitt stands at 6’4” already at 16. He is a big, rangy centreman that uses his size well, he gets a lot of his goals within 6’ of the goal mouth and is very good at battling for pucks down low. Definitely a budding power-forward - Nesbitt started the year off on a torrid pace but cooled down in the second half of the season, skating could be a concern.
