WINDSOR
I'm not totall against family as an assistant coach. It is a business and ownership are the one's with the financial risk. Hunter has been successful as an owner/ head coach as well as Patrick Roy. Both quite successful to say the least. That's not to say that I'm not super hesitant about Smith RELATIVELY speaking strictly based on years of past performance. At the end of the day ownership calls the shots for that position although it be nice if it was the GM'S decision. Savard came in but had his associates already in place. That handcuffs the HC from truly showing their value imo. Family is fine as a experiment with a very short leash. Produce results or be removed quickly.

Sounds like a new head coach will be made official on Monday. No word on who it is.
It'll be interesting to follow the reaction on here

Agreed Cherrydon.....it's ownerships ball and they can bounce it as they choose fit. Many a business owner gets involved partially to take care of family and/or friends. There is no 1 way of choosing, developing, implementing a staff and the ideology, methods they use to make a team successful.
I personally think ownership that is hands on should "help" guide decisions but not handcuff those put in place ( prez, GM, HC ect....) or else they are just puppets. If not hands on, GM at this level should have autonony over staff choices including asst Cs over the HC but give their preferences value.
A charter or defined roles also is of value so all know going in what's expected as far as duties, responsibilities and expectations.
Tough really, esp. with hockey still somewhat stuck in the old boys mentality of running an org.

Monday should be busy on here if it doesn't leak out early.

I'm sure a few will be happy either way...

For sure. There will be rosy glasses for some. If they shock me and bring a surprise like when Savard came in unexpected, I will be excited. Not saying all was bad, but a balanced game works to go deep in the playoffs. Aka Las Vegas Knights. Play offense if the opponent is loose and play tight if you need to. One 10-3 drubbing doesn't matter if the next 2 games you lose say 2-1. Offense great at 12 goals for in 3 games vs 7 against , however only 1 win in that scenario. Stats can be be stretched to be self serving for an argument as I just did. Wins are all that count. Long over participation ribbons at his level.

I just heard that Smith got the job from a source.
Now unless Smith's wife is related to the Savages can't see a relationship there.
I know Smith is a nephew of former Spits assistant and head coach Bob Jones.
