Kudos to the Sting a fast skating and hungry for the puck team.
Alot of ugliness for the Spits.
No flow to the Spits game.
Spits allow Sting to do what they want in their zone.Thats what u get when u lack a physical game.
Dont agree with the tender change that late in the game.Should have let Medina play it out especially being game 1 .
No panic it's game 1 but work to do.
Sparse crowd looked like maybe 2200....

Well that was ugly!! Defense could not clear the zone, Medina really bad also. Agreed that Medina should have stayed in! Let him learn the hard way. DeAngelis with his head in the clouds most of the game. Lots to work on!

Pretty simple. Spits looked pretty good for the first 2 periods. Took a snooze in the 3rd. Funky Ice cold Medina sums it up. Look to Downey to start tomorrow.

The D really hung Medina out to dry on a couple of those.
Have to clear the front of the net Sting constantly in front of Medina sometimes all alone.
Spits 2 best players tonight imo Zito and Ladd.
Medina has to be back in tomorrow night to avenge this loss.
D has to step up and hit somebody.
Savard had to remember he,s dealing with youngsters.
Pulling Medina was rookie coaching.

Does Sobolev have some sort of special import contract that pays a bonus for every minus collected? If so I hope he's giving Medina his cut.

6-3 Sarnia final...

The good (because I feel like it):

- The offence in the first period. They couldn't get Gaudreau much but it wasn't from a lack of effort. They peppered him, missed on a few really good chances, and looked like the stronger team. If they can find a way to maintain the offence for a full 60, it'll be fun to watch.
- Love Zito's two PPGs; one being a nice tip. I don't expect that every game but it's the start you want.
- Ride played a simple but effective defensive game. He wasn't running guys into the boards but he uses his size/stick well and I appreciated the little things.
- Downey wasn't likely supposed to play tonight but did pretty well under the circumstances.
- Announced attendance was 2,952 - about 100 shy of what they can allow. It looked pretty busy, all things considered. Loved the pre-game vibe; 19 months off will do that to you.

... and now the bad:

- Medina has to be better. I'm not saying his defence gave him any help but he looked like he lost confidence about midway through and it just snowballed. Should they have pulled him? No. Will he likely start in Sarnia tomorrow? Yes. Can he be better? Absolutely. After the preseason, he needs to get back on track. Tonight wasn't good... but it's a marathon.
- Outshot 20-4 or something in the third period. That can't happen. It looked like they lose their drive to play after it was 4-2. They weren't skating, chasing pucks, or much of anything.

Yes, losing 6-3 is fugly, especially in this fashion. Players need to be better. It's one game, though, and, frankly, a game we're kind of lucky to be at right now. I enjoyed the heck out of the entire night. Expectations will certainly be there over the long haul but, for one night, I didn't care nearly as much.

Well that was an ugly game. Spits outplayed sarnia for 2 periods and i thought the Spits were average at best in those 2 periods. Medina was not good. He NEEDS to stop one of the first 2 goals. That’s his job. Bail out the team when they make mistakes. I personally think he needs to sit and get things mentally straight. I don’t like the fact he couldn’t even be bothered to go out to see Downey after the game. By watching the 3rd periods you would have thought sarnia was the one trailing the way they pushed for offence. Gaudreau is going to be a top goalie in the league this year. Kinda reminds me of 64. Sarnia will have fun watching him.
Good news is our PP did something. Hopefully then can keep that up.

Can't disagree. People can say the Spits were the better team for 2 periods and you can't disagree but the talent between the pipes is large. The 3rd period looked like a team ready for the kill and another team that wasn't properly conditioned. That's fine to get Downey some minutes I am not sold on playing him on the road for his first career start in what is an important game. Windsor got a gift not having to be on the PK tonight until they were down 3 goals with 2 minutes left. Disappointing that they got back to 2-2 and Medina gifts Sarnia a goal but Windsor probably always had to find a goalie if they are going to be a contender this year.

Agree with most of what you wrote except the last sentence re Medina and finding another tender to contend,at least at this time.
I did write earlier that if Medina played like he did in Sarnia the 1st exhibition game didn't see Sarnia winning, well he wasn't even tested the 1st 2 periods faced only 11 shots in 2 periods and you are correct Windsor was the better team for the 1st periods, except goaltending.
Tieing things up and letting in a bad goal late in the 2nd undid everything and for whatever reason Windsor didn't respond ,Medina either.
Gaudreau was excellent for Sarnia in goal, especially the 1st 2 periods,Sarnia seemed to capitalize on every mistake Windsor make,Windsor didn't...
Tough nights for Sobolev (-5),Ride(-4),Abraham (-4),Deangelis, thought Zito,Ladd and Robinson played well,Miedema as well.
Not so much on this night for Cuylle, Johnston and Damico, vets have to lead the way.
Actually thought Jodoin who started the game as the 7th D played well, finished +1 on the night.
Dont agree with those who felt Medina shouldn't have been pulled after allowing 5 goals, plus the 1 disallowed when he was yanked,I would have given him the hook after the 5th one.
Looking for a better game on the road tonight in Sarnia.
Last night's attendance was announced at 2952.

Dman Louka Henault played last night for San Diego (AHL) as they won 4-2 over the Ontario Reign,LA Kings farm team.
Henault went pointless but did go +2 on the night and was credited with 4 shots on goal.

Spits d mam n Medina need to play a whole lot better.
D didnt do much at all.
Playing mostly 2 lines for most of game didn't help either. Fans just went thru that will TL. That needs to be a lot better. Roll 4 lines.
1 line on full pp? Switch up players please while on pp. U r just making players tired for 3rd period when u might need them.
A few showed up offensively.
More team effort needed.
Again just game 1, however Sarnia wasnt supposed to be in this game...

A lot of work to be done if this team hopes to contend.

I'm a fan of Medina but he's always been inconsistent with some good stretches followed by some really bad ones. He looked like Piiroinen last night, first shot, first goal. Much of the time he was in he looked like he didn't want to be there. After a poor exhibition season and a poor opening night he needs to figure it out fast or this team will be in trouble early.

Some of the young kids, opening night jitters? Some looked nervous and unsure much of the night.

D'Amico, like Medina looked like he had no interest in the game last night.

As much as Windsor outplayed Sarnia in the first two periods, and that is questionable unless we're only looking at the shot clock Windsor basically rolled over in the third. I think Sarnia realized their strength was a solid defensive game where they picked their spots offensively and capitalized on enough to put Windsor on their heels. Windsor came out with no fight in the third and Sarnia put them away.

There was questionable efforts from many of the vets and Ladd was one of their better players but Ladd didn't play any better than he normally does so that's not saying a whole lot. It's easy to look good if most others look bad.

It's one game, it's not a good start but things can change quickly. Overall there's not a lot to be concerned about but there are a few things that could become major concerns going forward. Lack of physical D/physicality in general has to change. Medina has shown he can play well in the past but if he can't play well consistently every game this team won't be competing for anything this year. Vets like D'Amico need to show leadership and show up every night. This team, if it's relying on the rookies won't contend. There's some very good potential in these rookies but rookies won't win championships. Most hit a wall before the season ends and expecting them to be major contributors through eight weeks of playoffs is expecting far more than anyone realistically should.

Regroup, learn from last night and actually be prepared for a similar style game tonight from Sarnia. Go back to Medina and see if he can redeem himself. The vets need to lead and the rookies need to realize they're herr because they are capable of playing at this level.

I agree with a lot of that. You need to go back to Medina and see what he's all about. I think the concern is what if he has another stinker. You have 2 straight coming against London. You want to get Downey into games but if you're chasing points early on it might be difficult. One other thing I thought Johnston and Cuylle were fine and didn't play bad. The problem is that they cannot just be fine and not contribute and not be visible in the box score. If it isn't Cuylle and Johnston then are the Spits banking on Zito/McDonald/D'Amico?? This is the problem losing Foudy to the AHL because now you're top guys don't have room for error.

First game of the season, We will be fine.
You have to think that the full team hasn’t really practiced or played together a lot.

With 45/50 contracts already signed this season, it is possible for Anaheim to sign Henault. However, this early in the season most teams like to save a few contracts for emergencies. Obviously they are impressed with him with the long looks.
