Ryerson has a better squad than the Spitfires will this year. On a young Spitfires team, he'd get a chance to play and produce. On a not-so-young Ryerson team, he wouldn't be as high in the depth charts.

So, because he said no to a trade means he doesn't have intangibles?

You're still getting looks ("eyes") from the NHL. Getting noticed and going to camp is still a key thing in any player's life. If you want to use another example - Chatfield. Free agent and now signed by Vancouver.

It means the Spits thought he was expendable as in there wasn't much value keeping him around.

Of the various openings for Windsor re this coming season here are most of the players by position that I feel will or have a real chance of making the team

Goalie- Brock Baier poised to make team as the backup, with the possibility of being the starter if Dipietro is moved.
Patrick O'Leary moves into 3rd tender category,by seasons end could be the backup should Dipietro get dealt
Didn't forget Lucas Patton, just feel though signed, that he is the 4th best tender.
Defense- Staios, Stevenson, Carrick,Starikov, Henault, Trifone
Forwards- Benwell, Playfair, Larionov, MacDougall, O'Brien,Aloise,Burns, Loon-Stewardson, Sirman, the Russian forward, forgot his last name sorry, and the other forward acquired from Barrie,American born from the state of New York.
All 9 forwards drafted this year in the entry draft are 1 or more years from making the club, though admittedly I will be curious how the likes of D'amico,Brimmer,Crasa, and a couple others from this year's draft do in their 1st full camp.
Forwards Michael Andrews and Jordan Frasca are the other 2 forwards from the draft, that I am curious to see how they do.

There is no reason to keep mccool around.
Time to move on.
If he is on this roster. Big mistake by Windsor.

Personally I would hate to see one of the best Spitfire goaltenders in franchise history be put behind a bunch of rookies on D. We saw a great season by DiPietro can he do it with rookies on the blueline? For US flyers the well has dried up like the sahara. That's like a certain someone believing coal is coming back. We can revisit this topic in a week and see where guys like Burns/Ferrandino are because if you recall there was some talk about them at that "mini" camp a year ago.

Going back to last year,Burns and Ferrandino did play well at mini camp,Burns continued his fine play at main camp, while Ferrandino did not attend the main camp and the year in the USHL.
This year,it looks like Burns who played forward at this year's mini camp, will have to make the team at RW this year, though it helps to play both as we saw with Corcoran, he is in tough, would like to see him make it,as for Ferrandino,he wasn't at mini camp, his team in the USHL,was still in the playoffs, though he did not suit up in the playoffs at all, despite playing most of the season, wasn't injured btw,not sure if he is going to be here in a week or so,I am saying no,guess we will see on that one.
He too would be in tough, with the likes of Staios, Henault, Stevenson,Starikov signed, and competition from fellow Americans Carrick and Trifone.

I guess there wasn't much value in keeping Stanley, then, or in Addison being on Ottawa last year.

Your post is the reason I think this will be a very competitive camp.

Spits made a trade

http://windsorspitfires.com/article/kutkevicius-acquired-from-bulldogs

Unspectacular career to date hopefully they really don't need him to play a big role like Rychel wants him to be. That 6th rounder they moved in 18 means as of now other than their 1st rounder they only have 2 other picks in the top 120. I know they need to find bodies but the pick situation isn't improving.

Not concerned about the pick situation yet, confident when other players are dealt some picks/ rounds will be replenished.
Always liked this player and with the situations regarding Brown and Vilardi smart move by Rychel to add experienced guys.

Just goes to show you how little we have to trade when we are forced to use draft picks to fill out our team in a re-building year. Laishram heading to school is a loss. He still has value.
As for McCool wanting to be traded closer to home, I'm sure he will end up closer to home although it may be in Caladonia with the Corvairs.
I notice nothing is being said regarding Culina. I'm sure WR is hoping on hope to be able to get at least a late pick for him. For his sake it would be nice to find a spot closer to home.
This trip from the penthouse to the outhouse will not be a pretty but will be lengthy.

The worst news is about Vilardi though the appendectomy is bad luck but a knee injury last year and a hip injury now. The biggest thing he needs to show is his durability because the NHL season is a heck of a lot longer than a junior season.

The playoffs are very doubtful especially with Vilardi being out. They just can't rely upon DiPietro every night. Maybe a few of the kids impress but it's going to be a very long year might even be worse than the 06/07 season.

Re the Hamilton trade: I don't expect much from him. This strikes me as more of the leadership deal; teaching the young forwards. You'll need guys like him this year.

Re McCool: Doesn't surprise me at all. After winning it all and half the team gone, finish his career near home. Would have enjoyed him here but can't argue with his approach.

It could be a bleak season but we knew this was coming.

Do think last year's 4 other top teams in the conference would be in the same boat,if they also were to lose 9 of their starting 12 forwards, their 4 best D,5 under age players,I am including Brown,Vilardi, Sergachev,Day and Stanley as the 5, knowing that Brown, Vilardi and Day perhaps will or could wind up back in the lineup.Windsor still has the best goaltending in the conference, after that is complete rebuild.
No doubt challenging times, but to me with the team's I asked about no different if they were in the same situation as Windsor. Is what it is looking forward to the rebuild, knew it was coming, must admit though if Vilardi,Brown, Sergachev,Day,and Stanley wasn't dealt, toss in Laishram and Knott, as o/as things would be different, they would have the conference's best D and goaltending, and anything could happen.Too bad won't be the case.

I have no problem accepting our fate this year. Will take the Memorial Cup win and run straight to the bank. WR is being forced to fill with utility players but he really has no choice. I'm really curious to see who will show at camp. There are some intriguing names who were drafted and hopefully we can get a couple to stay after the first 48 hours. It would be nice if we had room for a couple 16 yr olds from the US. Guessing we should see some sort of roster by tomorrow, I see Kitchener posted theirs and are already whining about needing a goaltender...

Warren has most certainly been active since the trade window has opened - not including the Stanley trade he has picked up the rights to 5 players and traded away 8 draft picks - for me this is not the road to long term success. Relying on trades rather than having drafted players developing in your system - at some point you run out of picks that other teams will take. I know we can move some players to restock somewhat but it will never make up for what Warren has moved in the last couple of years. If players don't return or want to be moved we could live through a couple of "rebuilding" cycles before we are truly competetive again. It is the price we had to pay to host the Memorial Cup and win another ring - I'm mostly ok with this but I'm not sure the average fan will be.

I'm actually surprised there is no interest in Culina - Kitchener is not the only team that has goalie concerns.

I am sure the fans will love a "bleak" season. :shakehead

How do Spits fans see Warren getting draft picks back? No second or thirds round picks for the next 5 seasons (2022).

The eventual trading of Dipietro and Vilardi, assuming his health returns to form should increase the draft cupboard,a combination of players and picks expected in return for both.

"Fans" know it's part of junior hockey. You have title seasons, you have "bleak" seasons. I'm happy to accept a season near the bottom if it meant the season before was a title one.

I tend to use the word understand rather then happy,if the upcoming season results in being at or near the bottom of the standings.
I am never happy about losing but I get the cyclical nature of the OHL which occurs for the part.
Especially after a championship and more then usual underage graduation/ long term injuries re star players.
Like I said give me Sergachev, Day, Stanley stays, Brown,Vilardi, Laishram and 1 more decent O/A, we would not be having this conversation.

Pray some good teams have goaltending issues and they want to trade for DiPietro. Maybe a team wants Logan Brown. I like Vilardi but if I'm an opposing GM I am probably not into moving assets for a player that can't stay healthy. I know Windsor fans will take the Memorial Cup and be happy but the Stanley trade really hurts Windsor. It wasn't a hockey trade if it was you most likely could have gotten 18 and 19 picks in return not 22, 23, 24 etc.. This isn't just a rebuild year this is most likely a 2-3 year rebuild. They can't rebuild this year because they didn't have many picks in 2017 and picked 2 D in the first 5 rounds, didn't take a forward until round 6. The biggest issue is so few picks and so few players on the roster that have value.
