Win or McDavid?

At the Xmas break the good news is the teams in front of us Calgary and Minnesota, suck just as hard as we do and passing them is doable.

However we're about 10 points out with roughly a game in hand on Vancouver/Winnpeg/San Jose. I don't include LA because there's not a shot in hell they miss the playoffs. That's after we went on a 4 game winning streak.

10 points however is ****ing MASSIVE to overcome. We pretty much have to have a 7-8 game winning streak to even come close to tieing those teams in the 40 point cluster. Its not just about getting 5 wins to match them, we have to keep in mind the points they're picking up too, which is about 1.3/gm. It's going to be really tough.

Just wish we could go one or the other. We need a huge streak one way or the other to get into either Lottery or the Playoff picture. We're in the worst possible spot right now.

Dallas put an end to Toronto's losing streak as well as our drawn out winning streak. With a little help from our tanking competition ripping off some wins, we financed 2 spots in the draft seeding moving to 7th, with 1 point between us and PHI, COL, and OTT but with 1 game in hand on all of the aforementioned. An unexpected win against STL could see us jump 3 spots to 10th, so it's important that we keep losing to stay in the sweetspot.

Merry Xmas!

Tomorrow the NHL makes it's return in a big way. The Stars are back in action against yet another team with a losing streak ongoing. This time it's he Blues in the middle of an out-of-character 3-game losing streak. All 3 losses came on a bad pre-Christmas road trip which culminated in an embarrassing 5-0 loss to the Avs. The Stars have yet another opportunity to capitalize against a struggling team, and this time maybe get off the Schnide against the Central. Let's hope not right?! We have draft seeding that is contingent upon a regulation loss to a team we should lose on paper. Pretty much everyone in the basement is neck-and-neck except for the very bottom several teams. All 10 of the bottom-10 teams in the league play tomorrow! Go figure? The will Stars will look to maintain their position in the sweet spot of the draft tomorrow. A win could see us move up the standings quite a bit. Let's hope for some Tyler Seguin donut goals in a regulation loss on the road with to start the New Year with some tanking momentum.

Fail to Tank Watch:

A slumping Blues team managed to tee up the Stars' first 2 goals of the game and the Stars get the W...again, for their 1st divisional win of the win of the season. A costly win indeed as we jump back up the standings. Teams just keep finding ways to lose games to our awful club right now and it's going to cost us in June after we miss the playoffs and are crossing our fingers for people to overlook J. Roy long enough for him to fall to us at 13th. It looks as though we are still stuck in the nightmare of being attracted to the .500 mark like a magnet.

Hang in there Team Tank. We will get through this together. The Stars finally plan a decent team that isn't on a losing streak tonight. The Rangers are the hottest team in the league with 8 wins in a row. Here's some hope for you, albeit slim. If the Stars lose this one in regulation, the Sens, Avs, and Flyers all win their game, then we reclaim the 7th Draft Seed. We are in dire need of a loss tonight as next we go back to Cupcake Town to play the Coyotes and a Minny team who has lost 5 in a row. Oh our poor tank! :)

(sigh) After watching a few of the WJC games, I don't think I'm interested in Werenski, and I'm not as hype on Hanifin, though he still looks pretty good. So my draft wish list is dwindling and at the same time the Stars keep putting up Ws. This is not good for the tank.

If the Stars keep winning like they have been over the next ten games, they had better be committed to keeping that pace to make the playoffs, unless they really do want to miss both the playoffs and the draft day fun. At this juncture of the season, Stars need to go to the extreme in one direction or the other for the remainder of the season.

Stars shouldn't give up. You're 8 points back of the Jets with 2 games in hand. Win those and you are 4 back. You gained one point the last 10 games, do that 4 more times and you are tied with 5 games left.

It's not about giving up, it's just knowing when to count losses as a more valuable asset than wins. If we keep this roller coaster pace we'll finish in or around a wildcard spot and that's not what we need.

It's wise for a team like us to look big picture and decide to tank because it means getting McDavid or Eichel which are poised to be huge game changers. Add a player like that to what we have then you're looking at a possible top 5 nhl club for a decent amount of years.

It sucks to lose and I'm sure it hurts player morale but if it means possibly getting a generational talent to add on, I'm all aboard.

It's not possible to out tank Edmonton. Arizona will begin there tank shortly as will Buffalo. Colorado looks like they might be taking the year off. As much as I'd love to tank after this win streak I'm afraid the dream is gone. At this point, might as well win and hope for the playoffs or a faller in the draft.

Having said that, loving me some Eichel in the tourney. Dude just controls the game when on the ice.

Remember though it is Edmonton. The could very well lose the lottery too.

We couldn't possibly out tank Edmonton. They're on pace for what, 15 or 16 wins? That's pathetic.

We've sucked nearly that bad a few times in our franchise history, but there's no way we hit the sh** skids and fall that far down this season. Even if we did try.

I'd giggle my azz off though if they lost the lottery and wound up picking out of the top 2.

Edmonton won a game! I bet LA fans are getting concerned now if eu weren't already.

In other news Dallas has a 4-point tank job to do tonight against ARI. I'm not giving up on the tank yet. We've had a lot of puck luck coupled with the improved play of Kari. This team isn't dominating anyone right now. Marner would hardly be a consolation prize and could really help this team maybe as soon as next season. Jeremy Roy or Strome would be really nice pieces to add as well. We are still much closer to getting one of those players than we are to making the playoffs. Believe!

Serious question, not trying to start a debate or flame anyone - have any of you who are calling for a tank ever played sports competitively? You guys do realize what a losing attitude in the locker room will do to a team, correct? Just look at Edmonton. They're still absolute garbage after multiple top picks. And if you're gonna argue that McDavid and Eichel are different prospects, Pittsburgh was pretty terrible for a couple years even after they drafted Crosby.

Tanking simply doesn't happen, except in extreme occasions (Buffalo, for instance). I know it's fun to speculate about and think about having players like McDavid and Eichel, but it's not even close to being realistic.

Agreed, this team needs to know that it doesnt suck as much as they often portray. This team can be downright lethal with the right attitude and effort. Id take that 82 games a year over McDavid any day.

Our defense could use some help though...

I have competed in MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball....so yeah, I'm in it to win it. I don't see much of difference in missing the playoffs by a smidge or missing it by a bunch. Either way you fall short of competing for the cup. I think missing the playoffs regardless of how much creates a losing attitude. I mean 16 of 30 teams make the playoffs...that's most. If you can't crack that, you've got problems, so you might as well get a pick that might serve to solve some of the problems and take you too that next level to gain the confidence and the winning attitude.
