Win or McDavid?

:shakehead Go... Stars?!...

:D

Haha. Yeah we had a rough night yesterday between our regulation win and NJ's loss. We've got some scoreboard watching to do tonight though. Still plenty of season left, but we're winning a hit too much for Marner right now. :(

I believe in the Stars, they are able to still screw up, they always show a glimpse of hope just to crush you... :)

PHI vs FLA 1 - 2 SO
COL vs PIT 0 - 1 OT
CAR vs TOR 4 - 1
*CBJ vs WSH* 4 - 5 OT
EDM vs San Jose 1 - 0 1st Period

Actually a decent day for the tank... Could be better, but everyone seems to be picking up points as well :)

McDavid Tank Watch

Yesterday we got bailed out a little bit by the tanker teams who saw action. Almost all of our draft day competition picked up points with the exception of EDM who lost in regulation to retake their #1 seed. PHI, COL, and CBJ all picked up loser points. Even CAR ripped off a regulation win against TOR.

Things are very tight in the draft race right. How tight? The difference between the 3rd and 9th draft seed is 3 points. That's right. The if the draft lottery was today. The difference between drafting Hanifin/Marner vs. Zacha would be a single regulation win and a loser point. Things should spread out a bit, but I don't expect the gap to be that big after the bottom couple of teams. That shows how important games against fellow tankers, the draft day "4-pointers", are in the grand scheme of the draft. NJ, who was behind us in the McDavid race before we faced off the other night is now in the 4th seed...square in Marner/Strome territory. Bet you wish we had those two points back.

Tonight will see more shuffling and we could see our draft seed improve for the moment, but unless we can string a nice 4-5 game losing streak together, we're just treading water at best. Everyone with a better seed than us right now has played 1-3 more games right now. So any improved draft seed will be "financed" for the time being, meaning we still owe losses to own the spot. Let's rip some losses off starting tonight against the Flames!

Current Draft Seed: 9th

Boxscores to Watch:

DAL vs CAL
NJ vs TBL
OTT vs Ducks

Happy Holidays everyone!

Luck has been on our side in a bad way. Catching teams in slumps has put us in the midst of a potentially devastating winning streak if it continues. The only good news to come out of yesterday is that both NJ and OTT picked up wins And our draft seed stayed put. Ottawa's win kept us 3 points away from improving upon our seed, but with one game in hand on them, we could see that buffer evaporate quickly. We need some mumps.

Current Draft Seed: 9th

Boxscores to Watch:

CAR vs NYR
PHX vs LA
*COL vs BUF*
PHI vs TOR
NJ vs Caps
CBJ vs CHI

First off let's give credit to where credit is due. Kari has played very well in the last two games. Maybe he's regaining his mojo. Maybe it's an aberration in an otherwise miserable season for him. That remains to be seen. His play has contributed to the Stars success over the past five games.

Now let's talk about some smoke. Let's talk about some mirrors. A win tonight against EDM, possibly the leagues worst team, could bring us to wins in 5 of our last 6. This will prompt many to believe that the Stars have turned the corner on the season and that we need to have our on on a wildcard spot instead of a draft pick. But let's take a look at those wins a little closer before the peanut butter jelly time song starts playing.

Win 1 against MON: We catch MON on the second game of a back to back and during a stretch of some overall mediocre play for them this season(5-4-1 in last 10).

Loss at WIN: We get destroyed by a good team playing good hockey. The only team that's not terrible or on a slump that we've played over the 5 game stretch. WIN is 6-1-3 in their last 10.

Win 2 against NJD: We nearly gave up 2 two-goal leads to hang on and barely beat the #5 draft seed by a score of 4-3. They are 3-5-2 in their last 10.

Win 3 against VAN: We won against a decent team that had just lost 4 in a row. They are 4-5-1 in their last 10.

Win 5 against CGY: We win a close game against the coldest team in the league. 8 straight losses for the Flames. They are 2-7-1 in their last ten.

There it is folks. We've encountered somewhat of a perfect storm in terms of matchups. One that will continue tonight against an abysmal EDM team. Maybe they build some momentum, but that remains to be seen once the cupcake parade ends and the real hockey starts up. Some divisional play could be a reality check for this team that is still really bad.

Draft Seed: 9th

Boxscores to Watch:

*DAL vs EDM*
CAR vs NYR
COL vs DET
BUF vs BOS
PHI vs WIN

No matter what happens today, all this streak has done is prove there's no possible way we're getting McDavid.

The Stars were in a big funk of their own before this whole thing started. They've won three games against teams higher in the standings than them, ans will continue to do so here and there.

Have we turned THE corner? Heck no. There's a ridiculous amount of things we need to fix. Have they turned a corner? No doubt about it. They're playing significantly better hockey the previous two contests than they've played most of the season.

I don't have high hopes for a post season berth, but I have even less hope that we'll completely bail and fall all the way down the barrel. It's just not gonna happen.

I just did the math and if the Oilers go .500 for the rest of the season, which they definitely will not, the Stars would still have to go .380 just to tie them ie only win 19 of the next 51 games. It's time for you guys to give up. No one can out-tank the Oilers.

I've never thought we could get McDavid or Eichel. My hope is that we get a top 7 pick. I'm not giving up on that.

Hanifin
Strome
Werenski
Marner
J. Roy

(No particular order)

One of these players is what I want to get out of this really bad season.

Hello you doubters. The lottery. Yeah I don't expect to get McDavid or Eichel but the 3rd pick is still up for grabs and the better one they get the better off this franchise will be. Also non-playoff teams are in the lottery. There's still a chance. Stop the hate. Join team tank.

The NHL can't let a player as hyped as McJesus is waste away in Edmonton.

It would be a travesty. I'd rather him go to Carolina. Even if it meant never getting to watch him play.

1c McDavid
2c Staal

Basically anywhere but EDM.

We are already eliminated from the playoffs if you crunch the numbers, but there really isn't any way to get into the McDavid race either. 10th overall pick, here we come. This would actually be a pretty good year to trade our first as part of a package for immediate blue line help.

What? It's ****ing December.

a whooping 6.3% probability of Stars making the POs

Also a whopping 96% chance that we get another recurring nightmare-like 12th overall pick haha. I'm trying to be the optimist in pulling for that 4% that we suck really bad all year and get a nice pick out of this mess.

Seguin's on fire! See above quote...it's destiny

Crunch the numbers, bro.

We have 33 points. To get to 95 points, we need 62 points in the remaining 50 games. Basically that requires this team to get two out of every three remaining points available the rest of the way. This team just isn't capable of that. It's already over, sorry pal.

And 95 points may not even be enough given all the free points we are handing out within the division. FFS, not a single win against the division yet.
