Having kids on defense isn't helped by Siegenthaler being an absolute pylon this season. He's supposed to be the steady veteran but I swear the kids look better than him some nights. Bahl, while older than the other kids, is still relatively inexperienced for an NHL defenseman. We knew there were going to be growing pains, but I think we thought the vets would be better than they've been so far. And then you put this years versions of Vitek and Akira behind it and...yeah its kind of a mess.

Bahl was supposed to be, at the worst, a stabilizing piece in the top 4. Whatever Luke/Nemec added this year was gravy. I don't see how expecting more out of Bahl is somehow unfair to him.

Because again, he is a mere 23 year old who came in this season with 66 regular season games under his belt scattered across a span of 3 seasons. Majority of those games, he was playing bottom pairing minutes.

I find it hard to fathom expecting him to take on an increased role seamlessly without his own troubles. It was a bet I would have made, of course, given our current allocation of assets. But I didn’t think he’d take on a top 4 role with no hassle overnight.

I've liked what Fitz has done for the most part since he took over...but the coaching selections have been bad. There was no good reason to bring in a dinosaur to coach a young team. There was an article out a while back where Fitz admitted Lindy wasn't even someone he was interested in until someone else convinced him otherwise. Then he had the chance to move on from him before this season and roll with Brunette, but he chose to not only keep Lindy instead but gave him an extension and let Brunette walk to another team. Fitz either lacked the balls to make the bold move after a great season, or he was suckered. Either one is not what you want from your GM. Then on top of all that, he hires Travis f***ing Green of all people to replace Brunette.

This is starting to looks like Hynes 2.0 where they have a season where everything went well and they won in spite of a coach, sandwiched between shit seasons.

This team is going nowhere with Lindy at the helm, it's a question of if not when. Yeah the current options suck, but if you do it now at least you can see if you catch lightning in a bottle to salvage the season.

There was no issue in hiring Lindy to be the placeholder coach, it's not moving off of him in 2022 or even last year for Brunette who's probably going to win another Jack Adams with how good Nashville looks this year.

even the rags got rid of ruff when shots against became unbearable (as defensive assistant). unfortunately that trend is continuing here..

Not for nothing, but the way they are playing looks like a team not only trying to execute a shit system, but one they no longer believe in anymore. And rightfully so IMO.

They do not play with a serious NHL level structure. At this point, not only do I think it's harming their record...I think it's bad for the development of the young players. They need to learn how to play a mature, championship caliber game. This ain't the f***ing Juniors.

I'd be willing to give Lindy a break if he wasn't micromanaging himself into abyss, there's next to no reason why Smith should be playing. There's no reason why Mercer should've been centering Timo for as long as he did, there's no reason for him to be musical chairs in net, there's a whole laundry list with him but the team just isn't good this year.
The reason is Miller’s wife having a kid. Who’s he supposed to play with Miller unavailable and Dougie stuck in the Bermuda Triangle, have Tierney take defensive shifts?

Btw, based on Hockeyviz’s playoff implications model, we should now be below 50% to make the playoffs.

That is fire the coach territory given the expectations to start the year.

The Smith comment wasn't about today but in general, I obviously understand why he played today lmao. Also maybe don't start him next time either? He was literally lost on the first McLeod goal

think goaltending really just destroyed this team mentally. It started with the playoffs last year and they just never recovered. I don’t understand regular season last year goaltending was solid the players played confident. was the hype too much for them? If they get a legit nhl goalie will it flip a script ? Sure mistakes will happen but knowing you have a legit goalie back there making a big save to bail you out 80% of the time as opposed to these clowns stopping 20%.

I disagree. He had the opportunity to hire someone who could grow with the team and be a good match for when the window eventually opened. Look at the Avalanche with Bednar or to a lesser degree Cooper in Tampa.

Instead three years later we feel stuck with him and the options are limited.

I no longer trust Fitz with coaching decisions. Even our goalie coach appears to be junk.

Let’s call it like it is.

Team didn’t play well at all tonight. Maybe for 10 minutes after they made it 2-0.

Our 2nd period was not much bigger than the 3rd. We didn’t deserve to really be up 3-2 heading into the 3rd. Our two goals in the 2nd period were merely us “Getting the bounces” we were basically hemmed in our end the entire 2nd period after scoring goals in two of our rare ventures into the offensive zone that entire period.

Maybe if we didn’t nutcase Vitek hemorrhaging all those goals in short order in the 3rd period we would have been close, but we had zero business going into the 3rd leading.

We were on a glue trap in our end for just about the entirety of the 2nd period.

The goalie coach should actually be the first one thrown to the alligators but he has Marty immunity the way everyone in the NY Jets organization has the Rodgers immunity idol

Things are looking really bleak right now.

If I'm Fitz, I'm strongly considering coming down to the bench and "observing" things.

You can observe them problems waaay farther than the bench....but yep I'm with you.

We have no D to sit really with the injury to Dougie. And no goalie to save us from goalie purgatory.

But Luke or Bahl need to come out a game for miller. Just out of principal at how bad their mistakes in the wrong moments have been. Problem is there is no one to fill the role right now.

Also Luke needs to stop being so f***ing lackadaisical with pucks in the corner. Two bad plays tonight that were mega costly. His bro just a game ago same thing.

Marino caught in no mans land at least once tonight. Seigies was a bit better tonight plus goal, but he was bad for a number of games prior with giveaways

Fire the goaltending coach at least. Whatever they are coaching for goaltending is not working clearly. Bad angles for schmid and Vitek. Bad positioning. Bad rebounds.

Hey at least Meier looked a little better and McLeod was good (ours). Nemec was fine today but I couldn't help but wish he had shot it instead of pass when he skated in with space, which kinda came back to our zone which just precipated the next shifts that doomed us this game.

Any other positives was the initial comeback. Meh. Hard to shake the last two games the way the game sank from bad plays.

Meh, Bednar type would've crucified here if we had less than 50 points his first year. I don't hate the Lindy hire for what he was brought into to do. I hate the Lindy hire for the personal attachment it seems that Fitz has like Shero did with Hynes

Not to be overly dramatic, but that was a pivotal point in a bad way for the way the season is going. We have now a 4 pt spread between the next place in Metro (Canes)

Metro won out again. Or 3 pt game.

Another 2 games like this in succession we are off the rails and even bubble is in doubt.

at this pace now .548 hitting just under 90pts

...51 games left, need .600 of points to get to 95.... even with the good run recently it's become even more of a hill to climb with 3 point games galore in the division (not an excuse)

but math doesn't lie. ....unlike like shakira's math

just to bring in the spanish espn people......

I’m at the YOLO phase. Give me Gibson and figure out the cap consequences in the summer

Dump Ruff
Gibson is something that could FUBAR the entire future and get Fitz fired eventually.

He’s an upgrade over Vitek, merely because I’m convinced a JV goalie won’t do much worse here than Vitek, who has long ago had the goalie/player version of a nervous breakdown.

But Gibson could cripple the future.

He also costs almost double Vitek and is signed two years longer.

Vitek really needs to be LTIR’d for mental health issues right now. There’s no coming back from his playoffs last year.

I mean, he COULD, just not on this team. Needs a change of scenery in order for that to happen.

There’s too much baggage here for everybody after what happened to him in the playoffs last year. He’s clearly lost it here.
