Was looking for a thread(went 4 pages back) about Willie but came up empty. Hopefully I didn't miss one. If I did feel free to close Mod.

Anyways I've heard comments here and there and it seems most think its going to be in 9-10m range(closer to 9).per year.
But I got to thinking how can he be higher then Timo Mier- 8.8m?

Thoughts?

Seems like most of the discussion of Willy has gotten absorbed into the Matthews thread.

Agree, it should really be $8.5m to $9m, right around the Mier deal. I love Willy but this shouldn’t be a hard one to figure out. He’s already had one negotiation turn into a sideshow. This one can’t.

The cap is only goin up 1 million after next season. if they give Matthews ~13, and willie wants 10, there's no way to build a competitive team.

I don't think there's even room to give Willie 9, as much as he does deserve it.

Not even a dollar over 8.9. He better start with an 8 or he can go. He isn’t in the 9 million dollar company play level

I’d be that petty and let him walk or deal him over 100k

Nylander had 21 more points, meier was playing on a shitty team but I assume he was also on pp1 all year and had the offense going through him so it's hard to compare. I don't see why the Meier contract is the comparable for Nylander and Nylander shouldn't get more.

8.5 x 8

years 1-3 full nmc/ntc
years 4 and 5 modified ntc (10 team list)
no NMC/NTC in the last 3 years (yrs 6-8)

most of the money paid in signing bonusses

get it done!!!

Ya they basically will take a step back for a season or two until the cap rises and JT comes off the book if they decide to keep the band together with all these big raises. The depth will be really bad if so

It's really only next year when JT is still on the hook and Matthews/Nylander raises go through (if we keep both).

Hope Knies, Woll, and 1-2 other Marlies can step in this and next year. Should be a significant amount of capspace to go around after the next 2 years when JTs contract is over & the cap climbs.

Really hope that we can sign our 3 young guns to deals for 6+ years. I'd hate for another short term deal where they're due for a raise again as soon as the caphit is getting to the acceptable/underpaid point.

All three players shouldn't have a drastic drop in play unless they get hampered by multiple/serious injuries. *knocks on wood*

When JT expires they also need a get and pay a component 2C, pay Marner, Knies, Mccabe, Woll etc. Probably be pretty tight that year if we only get a million or two raise. Ya I think you either bridge them really short like 2 of 3 years if your unsure or they don't perform that well or go for the 8 years. Seems to be the standard we see elsewhere at the moment

In the 8 range is fine.
In a cap world you don’t need and can’t endure all salaries in the double digit range.

You need a solid C like Matthews, a quality D like a Hedman/Pietrangelo, solid goaltender and another quality scorer forward on a nice contract between the 6 and 8 range.

Fill in with hard nosed blue collar workers with skill that keeps salaries in line and go.

I think he'll end up with a hair under 9. Which should be attainable - Leafs have the 8th year option which could drop the aav a bit
Gotta think that is fair, if he is pushing for a number with a 9 in front of it, with his penchant to take long stretches off, he's got to be delt. Heck at this point I'd take what Winterpeg got for PLD for Willie.

Neither of their two major extensions start until next season, when the cap will have increased significantly. Tavares’s contract is up the following season, before Marner needs a raise.

Probably won’t be a huge step forward this year, but there’s no reason to believe they’ll move backward unless they actively make bad decisions.

Is the big cap rise projected next summer? My mistake I thought mitch and JT expires the same year.
