Last season... you need to look into the stats you are claiming as fact.
Uh, what am I claiming as a fact? Refer back to my post and explain how you interpreted it and came to the conclusion that your response is relevant.

Willy is putting on a clinic this year with 8 goals in his first 11 games under a new coach and attempting to validate his new +$11 mil contract.

He is currently on pace for 60 goals.

Here is currently tied for 5th in overall goal scoring just 1 goal behind Kucherov the top RW in the game.

He is asking Berube for more opportunity and more playing time in the process.

Following the game, Berube was asked about Nylander's performance and his desire to play more minutes.

"Well, Willy has played good hockey for us this year. I don't have a problem with his game. Ice time is ice time. I try to use my bench as best I can. I think everybody is important. I try to manage the bench that way. People have roles. I use them in those roles. Willy played a good game tonight. The line was really good for us again."

I'd hope and expect he'll end up with more than 89 points by season end.

Marners team is complaining he’s playing too much is that what dreger said? I think Marner playing 4 minutes more than him is insane regardless of what lines you play on cause I know marners not averaging 4 minutes on the pk

The difference between marner and Nylander is like 49 sec at ES like late in the game where Marner will for sure play more than Nylander to protect a lead or whatever... The rest is basically on PK...

Some are still in denial.
In 2015, I got into a huge argument with my friends over a couple of issues.

I was wrong on Stamkos, cause I thought we could sign a bigger name after building up a bit more next year. Tavares on paper was just as good or better.

One big argument I remember was the season before Marner put up 90 points was between the two. I told everyone zone entry, solid shooting and speed would scale better into their respective careers. My dad was big on European style of play and he was mostly correct in how the NHL has seen an explosion in speed.

It took until 2021 for Willy to solidly surpass Marner, it might have happened before, but Tavares declined like crazy. No joke people thought we were going to get a two top 5 Cs for a solid 5 years. Instead by like year two, Tavares was a 2nd line centre.

I did a check
In 5 games playing over 18 mins he has 2 goals and is a minus 3. the 2 goal game he was +2

In six games playing under 18 mins he has 10 points and is +10, thats crazy
He's been a minus in only two games - the 4-1 loss to the Rangers and the 5-1 loss to the Blues. More ice time trying to catch up late. Of the five goals he was on for in those two games only one was 5on5 - the rest were three empty net goals and a delayed penalty.

I don't recall the coach complaining about his defensive deficiencies - just a couple of biased posters.

"What I do is I try to get him out there, if deserved, as much as I can." - Berube

I guess he thinks the ice time he is getting is deserved... it seems like he is not getting the extra ice time defensively that he got last year... you can draw your own conclusions from that and I'll draw mine.

I don't see anything in that quote about defensive deficiencies.

But I do agree you've drawn your own conclusions.

How about "Well, Willy has played good hockey for us this year. I don't have a problem with his game." Berube

His "defensive deficiencies" are overblown by a couple of posters for whom the defensive side is their only prop for their favorite player.

Not every player can excel at all aspects of the game.

Some are better defensively, some are better offensively.

The hardest thing to do in the National Hockey League? Score goals.
Every player who has ever laced on skates and dreamed big has wanted to do it. Only a small handful of players have ever excelled at it, with Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov leading the way this year.

The second hardest thing to do in the National Hockey League? Prevent those same rare and exceptional scorers from putting in goals.

So his defensive responsibilities have been reduced, and Berube said he is giving him the ice time he deserves, so his offensive game has regressed?

Just trying to understand your logic (or lack thereof).

Absolutely - I just find some of the claims that Nylander is terrible defensively to be really odd.

Sorry - new phone driving me crazy. It was slow adding:

Of course I didn't say anything about his offensive game regressed, but I guess you have some weird logic in there.

Willy has excellent defensive skills in his toolbox but he often plays like a goal scoring winger.

He and Berube will make it work. They have to if we want to succeed in the playoffs.

He is not putting him out there in the same defensive situations and is giving him the ice time he deserves.

I guess it means nothing, we can leave it at that, the reduction in ice time and specific scenarios is irrelevant.
