Not saying the Leafs should or will trade him but if Marner starts scoring goals, could they look to trade Willy for a potential top pairing dman?

For example:

Hanifin for Nylander

What would your team offer?

His value is: Untouchable.

He's been the Leafs best player so far, continuing right where he left off last season.

Nylander stays. Yes, we need a massive D upgrade, but we aren't in win now mode....build through the draft, that's the plan.

Leafs management didn't seem interested in drafting Hanifin and apparently they were willing to trade down if Marner went 3rd, so I don't see why they would want to acquire him now.

There is no point in paying the premium for a defenseman that isn't even experienced enough to fix our defensive problems when we could go out and acquire a veteran guy for much cheaper.

Nylander is untouchable right now. This is a learning g year for the leafs and we won't be trading any of our young guys.
Stay the course, let the team learn the system and eachother.

Next season we can go out and get a dman, especially with the amount of money coming off the books

Toronto is doing a fantastic job atm building from within. Why now do they want to go and mess with that while it is working? They could draft/sign/trade for someone WHEN they are a playoff team. No need to reach when there is time to resolve the issue organically.

A lot. More than anyone is going to pay.

Hold onto your young guys, hopefully grab some D men in the draft and/or free agency. Its really not that hard.

Pretty much. We have some high end forwards...defense needs to be upgraded and Rome wasn't built in a day. Some Leafs fans simply lack patience.

Given how ludicrously awesome Nylander's start to the season has been, I suspect this is not something that would get seriously considered. Maybe try again in a few months? :)

Nylander is good but his results are a product of playing with Matthews. Put Marner with Matthews and both of them will do much better. Put Nylander with Bozak and JVR and we'll see the truth with Nylander.

I'd trade him for someone like Hanafin in a second.

So you haven't been watching any of the games.

Nylander isn't the only guy on that line, y'know, and he's played well under other circumstances in the past. It is indeed too early to declare him to be the badass he's appeared to be so far, but it's also very premature to speculate that he's entirely a product of Matthews.

The Leafs have zero incentive to trade him.

A team so early in its rebuild doesn't need to do something as drastic as move out a player like him.

If the a Leafs had wanted a D man like Hanifin they would have taken him in 2015 when they had the chance

Nylander played with Hyman and Kapanen and then Michalek and Greening at the tail end of last season and he was over a 50 point pace during that time.

Marner needs good linemates to become the most dangerous player on the ice. Nylander is the most dangerous player on the ice regardless of linemates.

Your last statement is just silly. That's like saying "If Toronto wanted a sniper like Laine, they would have just taken him when they had the chance". Of course Toronto would want Matthews AND Laine or Marner AND Hanifin. It says literally nothing except they like another top prospect even more.

No chance.

Freddy5 will lead us to 2nd overall and we will get that #1rd we are missing.

I guess I'd consider trading one of Nylander/Marner for a #1rd if that player was really good.
