Finished the season with 67 point and near 30 goal pace. All players will have down stretches throughout the season (recall Matthews goal drought), doesn't take anything away from their final results.

Two seasons in a row now Nylander has put up above first line production while largely not seeing 1st unit pp time
While only averaging 16 and a half minutes this year...

With the way Nylander has played alongside Kerfoot... you have to wonder just how good this team could have been if they separated JT and Willy the whole season. All the credit in the world to Spezza, but Toronto really didn't get much production-wise from the bottom 6.

Then again, not sure Willy would have found this gear over a 56 game season; nor "bought into" playing outside of the top 6 in the regular season.

If Toronto can beat Montreal, and if they can get JT back, that's going to pose a really interesting challenge for the Jets who are a 2-line team.

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-Nylander
Foligno-Tavares-Mikheyev
Thornton-Spezza-Simmonds

Maybe you scratch Mikheyev and keep Engvall in so that Spezza could play on the 3rd line and Engvall centre the 4th.
As great as Galch - Kerfoot - Nylander was last game, I’m somewhat skeptical about it being consistently as effective the further we go along. If it keeps being good then sure keep it once/if JT gets back, but if it turns out you really need to shelter the line in order for it to work I’d rather just reunite JT-Willy, who were above a PPG going into the playoffs and Keefe could trust in any situation.

Never a fan of this guy. I called him a girl and a rotten egg in the dressing room a bunch of times. Just a guy picking up his paycheque.

He's shutting me up good. Hopefully he keeps it up against a tougher match up.

It certainly used to look like he was just picking up a paycheque. I am admiring his maturity and smarts this series, maybe he has come of age. Nylander is a strong link in the chain.

It will be fascinating to watch him against the more difficult opposition - if he figures them out too, the Leafs are golden.

Playing devils advocate here, Tavares may look good between Hyman and Mikheve on the third as a shutdown line.

I think part of my brain is just scarred from the Babcock days. We needed to shelter both the JVR-Bozak line and 4th line, which meant either we gave the hard matchups to Matthews or Kadri. I think part of what made this year effective was that the 4th line was the only one we really needed to shelter and gave us a lot of options.

Had to be posted

It is officially time for the first line to win a game.

They hqve dominated the ice, but for the love of God, start putting the puck in the net.

Fantastic game, but the team wasted it. Maybe pass inventor could learn a thing or two from him?

This falls directly on Keefe, inexcusable. Make Willie's line #1 and AM #2 until they get their sh!t together. Maybe with lesser competition they can get rolling.

How they still go forward with these terrible pp's is beyond me. Also why not try to double shift willy a few times to get his ice time up. Throw him out with matthews and marner once in awhile for offensive zone starts.

I think you have to leave him with Kerfoot and Galchenyuk where he can be “the guy” on that line. Not sure I’d play him up with Matthews 5 v5 at this point.

But he really needs to be on PP1 ahead of a lot of other guys for sure. He’s dialed in.

How did you get into the dressing room? Are you the janitor or something?

Playing like a girl must mean "smart and mature", thats not an insult at all.
