Tribute William Nylander Discussion Thread: Ya Gotta Be Blessed Edition

Willy has skills to be a TOP player in league .. he can fly .. he has great edges and can skate laterally .. his shot is above average .. he can stickhandle and pass with da best .. ONCE he decides to take over physically you will see a great coming out party for Willy .. people still do not realize what he can do because Willy himself does not know yet .. now will he do it??????????? .. that is da multi $$$$$ question .. I think it is a 50/50 bet he becomes one of top centres in league in a couple years .. da big guy
 
I like Kerfoot/Nylander together, they seem to bring out the best in each other. I wonder if perhaps we're better off running three more evenly talented duos:
  • Hyman/Matthews/xxx
  • xxx/Tavares/Marner
  • xxx/Kerfoot/Nylander
And then having a complimentary tertiary forward for each duo. Perhaps Spezza plays with Matthews, Foligno with Tavares and Galchenyuk with Kerfoot. This would also leave us with some serious speed in Engvall and Mikheyev on the 4th line, with I guess Simmonds.

Obviously need to be healthy first though.

He has all the skill in the world. Nice to see him play hard and show up on the score sheet.

Most teams that win the cup have a 2nd or 3rd liner that really blows up. Hopefully willy can be that guy.

Nylander without JT has 4 goals while Matty and Mitch have 1. Who'd have thought ? I'd have bet we saw the Ghost of Willie first. A 5th goal would tomorrow night would be amazing.

What does the first 25 games of the season have to do with now? They are more useless then that 10 games the jets played the oilers

I like everything about this except for the insistence at playing Hyman out of position.

Finished the season with 67 point and near 30 goal pace. All players will have down stretches throughout the season (recall Matthews goal drought), doesn't take anything away from their final results.

Two seasons in a row now Nylander has put up above first line production while largely not seeing 1st unit pp time

With the way Nylander has played alongside Kerfoot... you have to wonder just how good this team could have been if they separated JT and Willy the whole season. All the credit in the world to Spezza, but Toronto really didn't get much production-wise from the bottom 6.

Then again, not sure Willy would have found this gear over a 56 game season; nor "bought into" playing outside of the top 6 in the regular season.

If Toronto can beat Montreal, and if they can get JT back, that's going to pose a really interesting challenge for the Jets who are a 2-line team.

Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-Nylander
Foligno-Tavares-Mikheyev
Thornton-Spezza-Simmonds

Maybe you scratch Mikheyev and keep Engvall in so that Spezza could play on the 3rd line and Engvall centre the 4th.

unfortunately, hyman has been more hyman of 3 years ago..forechecks well, tries crazy hard but plays die on his stick. its coming back slowly though...last game was a bit more hymanesque of the past few years.

This is the type of lineup I’d like to run but Keefe is obsessed with top 6 bottom 6.

I’d personally go with
71-34-16
65-91-11
12-15-88

Tavares with 2 grinders to play his cycle game

IMO he was not as fantastic as he is now (i dont think he was ) first half of the season , imagine him having a higher low in the first half. Huge untapped potential if he gets more consistent. I am realy on Nylanders side. People are realy fast with the guillotine in here.

Him not getting first pp is driving me crazy. They should at least try. If what you are doing right now dont work. Do something else, anything WTF! How hard can it be! Sorry but now i got to go around being angry for an our or so...

And give hot players more icetime no matter who they are.

Thanks i didnt know if i should feel offended or not. I decide i am not. Truth is in the eye of the beholder, even if that eye is blind.

Nylander could have had a better first half of the season. He has had a good season over all. Not fantastic. He is playing fantastic overall right now. Thats my truth.
 
There's a reason I stan for wild Billy Nylander.

He really is one of the most underrated players in the league. Him being able to drive a line gives the Leafs a lot of options.
