Watching Willy now reminds me of Willy in WJC where he dominated and led Sweden, if it were not for Team Canada, McD, Domi, Reinhart and company, Willy would have won it for Sweden on his shoulders. Everyone was talking about McD and Domi in that tournament but Willy caught my eyes. He was that dominated.
Can still remembered how I thought Sweden had two Nylanders b/c the Nylander I was watching was nothing like what I read.
So glad Leafs drafted him instead of the Nucks.

I'll take your word for it. I'm not going to look through an entire thread to find one, maybe two people?

Listing their names would suffice
I was making the argument that Nylander was overpaid at time of signing in relation to direct comparables at the time. If you say "But he's improved a lot since then"... well... so did his direct comparables under better contracts.

I looked at the leafs core 3, who their direct comparables were at time of signing, and determined that every comparable has a better bang for their buck contract than the leafs core 3.

If you disagree with me, you should respond to me in that thread. Not here, as we'll get in trouble for derailing.

I love the microphone up addition....Hockey players for the most part are some of the nicest people out there... If they were alerted that for a certain period of time, they would be miked, I bet it would be the rarest of moments and an emotional mistake, if they ever cursed...

Shocked me, actually, when I started meeting hockey players, how down to earth they are...

Guess they know how many friends, teammates, buddies and such, didn't make it, they almost have an army disposition to them, seen so many people close to them not enjoy what they have been blessed to achieve.,

So ya, mike it up please, its great. Was really cool to see how serious bill was..

Will is my favourite player on the Leafs right now. His growth in his game and his personality has been insane. Love the guy to bits. He plays such a smart and controlled game.

This micing up thing though.... Its worth discussing and of course, entrpreneurs and capitlalists, could run with this, if it isn't handled in a cool fashion.

Of courses some people would love to have the mikes on, when two guys start spearing each other or duking it out.

Certainly that is the danger of this type of exploration.

However, I know for a fact, this is fascinating territory.

Most fans, will never get a chance to meet their sports heroes.

Handled with class, this could really be big.

Heck, I am a geezer now, but I have never met Nylander, I didn't know he was this serious, this professional.

Its like that old, but apt expression, a picture is worth a thousand words, well this is even potentially better.

Love what I have seen and heard so far, wanting more...

Alright, since so few of you want to actually give statements as of WHY you like Nylander as a player and consider this thread twitter, I can as a partial Swedish homer give the hints what to say in what you can put into words. Nylander is the best producing Swedish player in the NHL this season for a reason. Sure, his best buddy Bäckström has been injured, they could've had a race. Zibanejad is missing his best buddy Buchnevich under a more north/ south coach. Landeskog will always have more to him than points. But the race against Bäckström is pretty damn solid, still. Anyhow, Bäckström used to drive the Nylander kids to school to help papa Michael Nylander out. Did you know that? Bäckström and Nylander are very close friends, kind of like family. Just something to tell you if you didn't know that.

Anyhow, Nylander just like his father has a great skill at swallowing the puck, dancing around into eternity if he wants to. Unorthodox body movements and cuts with the skates. Almost like a dance. Those crisp edges while dangling, giving a tell to the opponent that is false. Nylander could hold the puck for much longer than anybody would expect, if that was the goal of the game.

That is Nylander's special gift I would say. Him pretty much making sure the team will beat the offside with puck possession on the breakout and the attack. Him giving comfort to the defense if they're screwed in the breakout; "Hey, just give the puck to Nylander and he'll handle it!" Come on, it's ridiculous how smooth he does it! I'm envious you have him because I don't like Toronto. I respect the fans and the passion but I dislike so much else about the organization. Kind of like I'm a NYR fan and has detested the organization for 90% of the time. The players, the art, that's my thing.

Sure, Tavares has taught him the rough business around the net, so now he produces both in the scrum and in the perimeter. Yeah, I can really say Tavares upgraded Nylander. That gave him an extra edge to become consistent. He can produce in every way now.

Already before all of this he had great talent at skating, agility, shooting, passing, vision, will power when it matters, all of it. What I really wanted to say is it's funny how one of the most criticized Leafs stars have shown how his demand to be paid fairly (which he isn't) is one of the best contract bargains in the entire Maple Leaf squad. Irony or something, huh? I mean, Matthews is Matthews, but...

... sure, he's is pouring in goals right now in the regular season, as always. But what happens when he is the #1 cover against a quality playoff team that has studied every edge of his game? That tries to read him? I won't even mention Marner, he's a phone book.

That's why Nylander still produces in the playoffs. He has more dimensions and nobody can read what Nylander will do on the ice.

The only thing I take issue with is William's contract. AT THE TIME, it was a great deal for William. He has now shown that the contract was a great deal for the Leafs. Maybe William cashes in on the next one just because of how well he produced on this one. Hopefully he stays a Leaf forever.

I just felt like bumping this thread cause Willie is so awesome. Two goals last game and not even a smile from him, kids all business. I remember Grapes used to say how much he loved how Bobby Orr would almost never celebrate after scoring, just score, skate away and go on with the game. Willie reminded me of that the other night, love the attitude, love that he seems to just keep getting better and better.

Not sure how good he can get but I am excited to see what he does for us in the playoffs. Wouldn't it be something if he established himself as a superstar by leading the team in scoring as we go all the way to the final? You can do it Willie, I know you can! GLG!!

He hasn't just broken out offensively (with still more to give) but his complete game as a player & teammate, he's become a significant leader on this team.
Willy is half coach out there. I remember watching another video of both Willy and I think Tyson Barrie mic’d up in the same game, and all Barrie did was making loud noises out of his mouth (“yeeeahhhhhh go go ahhhhh go”), while Willy was having his line mates make nuanced adjustments that immediately resulted in scoring chances.

He is the picture of a high IQ player, and it looks like the coaching staff is letting him take some control out there. And it is clearly working.

He needs his own line at C with Bunting/Kase type wingers.

Nylander and Matthews tied in point. Although matthews has 3 less games.

You make 4.6M more auston, time to step up

That’s your interpretation. Many of us figured he would progress into a better player. He was a 60 point player at age 21. That list is very short…
