There should be no appreciation thread other than Jason Spezza, only because he shouldn't be coming back

I think he's the perfect player for Leafs fans.

For the fans who like talent, exciting plays, goals, assists, and winning hockey, he provides all that.

For the fans who just like to have someone to blame, he occasionally provides something that they can use.
I mean, that 2nd point is entirely within his power to eliminate.
All he needs to do is show up every game, or at least significant parts of games, and all the bitching and moaning about him stops.

It's rare that people bemoan Nylander making dumb mistakes. Instead, the normal cause for gripe is Nylander floating and coasting - general lack of effort.

I don't think there is a single player who doesn't float or coast sometimes. Kucherov as one example is much worse.

"He's a talented player who occasionally takes a shift off" is a reasonable take,, which accurately describes Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Rielly as well.

"We have to trade this total piece of garbage because he didn't go all out for an icing at the end of a shift" is really nothing more than "I'm upset, and here's an easy target".

Yeah Lets crap on Nylander. 4 shots (like Matthews whom should always have the most) no goals against. Almost half of the shots among the big four. I expect at least one goal from the 7/11, but most from the 11s,they alone should been able to have won this one.

Its the big three and then Nylander. They should take the most heat. If he should be traded, based on this series, they all should.

Since Reilly will be pay more than Willie next year, would we call them Big 5 or still Big 4 and bump Willie down so others can’t crap on him for no reason, lol.

For real, Willie played well.
While looking at play or shift he didn’t go all out also look at how he fought through Foote and a few others with his zone entries and puck control.

I would okay Willie at C next season and let JT be on the wing for AM and MM.
Let Willie be C and have Kase and Bunting on his wings.

That's empirically not true.
It is not an accurate description of Nylander. He doesn't occasionally take a shift off, he takes occasional games off.

He makes more than Pstarnak
That's all I got
That’s not a fair comparison

He got paid in line with guys like ehlers fiats reinhart and he’s in line with them in terms of production

I am mad too, but not about his contract, moreso about his play. Whether he made 5 or 8 wouldn’t matter since he has talent to be better

Does he take a shift or game off any more often than Matthews, Marner, Tavares, or Rielly?

Probably not, except in the opinion of people who need someone to kick because they are feeling bad.

Why is that not a fair comparison?
They were both drafted in the same year. Aren't they like best friends?

Pastarnak signed his contract before Nylander signed his.

Dubas should have shown him the numbers...

look bud, your best friend is a better player, why he's getting paid more
pastarnak signed the deal september and Nylander was in december. It was matter of 3 months

I don't get why everyone is mad at a player who put up 7 points in 7 games even with a rough start to the series, he manged to recover and come through. Nylander has been everything as advertised for the second year in a row.

After Game 7, I don't really blame him that much. It's a 2-1 playoff loss and none of Matthews, Marner, Stamkos, Kucherov, Point or Tavares (painful) scored either. It came down to a random ex-Senator from Mississauga to sink the Leafs. He also battled through a defender running interference and still manufactured a breakaway chance. I do wish he'd just rip one instead of that little backhand that never works anymore, and didn't like some of his perimeter cycling, but what can you do.

Thanks for the memories Willy. I was hoping the team would draft you (or Ehlers) on draft day and now I'm hoping they trade you for picks/prospects because you've proven to be softer than 4 ply Charmin ultra soft

I'd prefer a tavares trade over Nylander

But Nylander and his cap hit would be attrative
the raw point totals are there

just not the playoff intensity you need, this guy would rather forfeit a game check than go into the corner to recover a puck in the playoffs,
he is deathly afraid of going beneath the goal line or finishing first on the forecheck to recover a puck.

Reminder this guy put up 80 points and looked better than Kucherov and Stamkos across all 7 games overall (Point too but he's obviously playing hurt so he gets a pass).

Trade him if you love misery.

Trading Nylander does nothing. He doesn't hold weight among the core. Nylander being traded, would have the same affect on the room as trading Ritchie had. Unless your getting a nutcase back like Tkachuk, it won't have an affect.

Not viewing Nylander as core has sunk Keefe twice in a row now.

More prominently in Habs series but the ice time this series did not make sense either, especially the games his usage was the same as that playoff flop Engvall.

None of you (this part isn't for you) will trade Nylander when it's time to pull the trigger so not sure why you keep bringing it up. Sense will slap all of you so fast when it's time to make it official.

I dont want to trade Nylander. I'm trying to explain to the people that do that it wouldn't change anything. It wouldn't have the shock factor that is needed to change the mindset. Matthews and Marner need to be separated, but trading 1 of them would force the other to request a trade.
