Boston Globe Will the Bruins' ownership do anything about this mess?

The issue going shopping this summer in the UFA market is once you get past Mitch Marner, it's pretty much all "Elias Lindholm" like mistakes waiting to happen.

I'm not giving 29-year old Nik Ehlers a 7-year deal, reeks of Lindholm 2.0.

34-year old Matt Duchene. 33-year old Brock Nelson. 34-year old John Tavares. Senior citizens Marchand, Kane and Giroux. I like Sam Bennett but will his body hold up the way he plays with an average frame? Do they take a run at 28-year old Ryan Donato or has that bridge been burned?

Sweeney should just take a vacation on July 1st.
You blew it, dude. If you were properly channeling Dupes, you would have written, "Senior Citizen Kane," Marchand, and Giroux.

Rask struggled in Game 4, but so did Crawford. He was fine in 2013.

B's would have been up 3-0 going into Game 4, if a young Torey Krug doesn't make one of the most horrific turnovers you'll ever see in Game 1 to let Chicago back into that game.
You have that correct. Krug! Plus, Seids and Chara were worn out from playing so many minutes and so much OT.

Look at Youtube. He was horrific in 10, games 4-7. He was outdueled by a better team and average goalie in 13 and beaten by a more competitive and sharper goalie in 19.
In 2010, Krejci got hurt in Game 4 and Gagne came back in Game 4. Two completely different teams from Games 4-7, compared to Games 1-3.

Propp was one of the best defensive wingers and penalty killers for more than a decade and out scored Carbonneau by over 300 points and 165 goals.

He played PK and PP.

I’d take Propp 1000/1000 over Carbonneau, as he was a much more well rounded player.

Never in the top 20 of Selke voting. Got a couple votes in 4 different season, most likely from Philly writers.

Never a post season all-star.

To Don Cherry's credit he never named the player responsible, but that was tough. Everyone around here getting their panties in bunch about Marchand being disrespected, but no one was more disrespected more than Middleton, 12 point away 1000 and Harry cuts him, ownership had a say in that I am sure.

Middleton retired after the 1987-88 due to injuries. No one cut him.

Poulin and Propp were one of the best PK tandems for years.

The guy scored over 1,000 points while, at the very least, being well above average defensively.

Carbonneau was only good defensively with a career high of 26 goals, and only four 20 goal seasons. He had 1 season above 70 pts.

Propp had eight 30 goal season and four of those were 40+ and four 90+ point seasons.

Propp was far better.

how is this even a debate?

82 game avg's for their careers:
G A Pts +/- S S% PPg SHg
34 47 81 24 252 13.6 10 2
16 25 41 12 120 13.5 1 2

Propp's PP points (ha!!) don't contribute to +/-

edit: formatting went kerflooey and i don't care enough to fix it

They also had a 2C in Krejci who led the league in playoff scoring in two different postseasons.

Might want to make sure that guy has solid wingers if you make it to a game 7
To me one of the biggest disappointments were the wasted years off Krejci's career. He was our #1 center, but he got supplanted by Bergeron. Bergy was great but we became a one-line team for several years as Krejci was left to play on makeshift lines that lacked star-quality wings.

I want to believe that ownership will relieve this current management group of their duties, or at least the GM. Time to look at some “outside” options for leadership who have zero “Bruins culture” under their belt. Don Sweeney and Cam Neely came up through the ranks here and really only know one way of doing things.

The Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche and Las Vegas Golden Knights might be good places to look for new forward-thinking executives. Their GMs as possible candidates to replace Neely, and their assistant GMs as replacements for Sweeney. The likelihood of reeling someone in from one of these teams is small, given that these teams would be reluctant to let them go and the high cost they would command anyway, but I would start there.

It's funny reading views on Boston sports writers.
Compare them to some old Montreal Gazette hockey beat writers:
Red Fisher: as old as dust and crankier than f***. Wouldn't even acknowledge any other staff under 60. The music critics were avid Habs fans and he wouldn't even nod hello at them. He was more acerbic than old vinegar.
Jack Todd: a US draft dodger who started out as bitter and funny...then funny left town and he was just a bitter writer. He seemed to lose any humour after some personal accident. I think he fell slipping on ice and he was on LTIR for a good while. Came back bitter at the world.
Or how about Toronto's Steve Simmons who was singled out at Brian Burke's retirement as "I won't miss you"...lol.

Reading the Athletic owner ratings are as hilarious as expected

Bruins since Jacobs bought team in 1975 rank 1 overall in on ice rank at or near the top in categories used, but fans have them near bottom

I haven’t been following the thread - how did Marchand get disrespected ?

The Sacco benching ?

On my death bed I'll probably be railing about Nifty not being in the HOF. I maintain that if there is no Too Many Men penalty and the B's close out game 7 in 1979, MIddleton's goal is the one that breaks the curse, the B's beat the Rags to win their 3rd Cup in the 70's, and he is in the HOF.

Middleton isn’t in because of

I attended a business conference in Florida for 5 days in the early 90’s and Middleton was there also. He was fun to talk Bruins hockey with—a very nice guy .

My good friend Dave and I used to watch the Bruins games together in Rhode Island on the old Channel 38. Dave was a big fan of Nifty—his favorite Bruin. I cooked up the idea to call Dave from Florida and put Middleton on the line. He graciously agreed and we made the call. When Dave answered I told him I had Nifty on the line for him and he wouldn’t believe me!

Middleton got on the line and it was a long time before Dave realised it was really Nifty himself. They had a great conversation and Dave was in hockey heaven for a long time. Good times and great memories . . .
