Will the 4 Nations tournament have any sway in terms of HOF candidacy?

If it becomes a mainstay, I feel like Olympic medals make a difference. But to me it's kind of a made up tournament that is just replacing the All Star game. So being selected to the team I guess should count. But does winning count? Does the MVP count? No one ever cared who won the All Star Game and who the MVP was. And these aren't the Olympics that are over 100 years old and there are a lot more competitors than the 4 that we see in the 4 Nationals tournament.

HHOF already seems to mostly go by NHL accomplishments and to a lesser extent Olympics. Most anything else internationally like WC, WJHC, leagues outside the NHL, etc. are for all purposes ignored. 4 Nations will be as well. Summit Series was far more impactful internationally and I don’t think anyone really made or broke their candidacy based on it.

I felt this way too but with the reaction from the players winning it made me wonder if it'll be seen more like world championship than an exhibition tournament. People were comparing McDavid's goal to Crosby's in 2010 for crying out loud.

Edit: In the end if it was a one time thing my answer is clear. I thought this would be a yearly thing replacing the All Star game.

They just didn't have all the logistics worked out yet (w/ Russia and all other countries not being completely nhl rosters) so they started small to get the ball rolling before Olympics.

Tretiak could be argued to be the greatest goaltender of his generation. Paul Henderson was a role player who scored a goal at a key moment, which doesn't get you into the Hall of Fame. I doubt Justin Williams gets in either, for that matter.

IMHO this tournament counts similar to a World Cup or Olympic tournament. Performance in this tournament can sway things in one direction.

I feel like the two players whose legacy got boosted the most are McDavid (who is getting in anyway) and Binnington.
