If he’s gonna get one tonight, it’s gonna have to be an empty netter or 5 on 5. Islanders are shadowing him on the power play. He needs to move around more.

To me, the only difference I see this year is that he isn't scoring. The rest of his game is unchanged.

Still doing lots of this.......

NHL coaches should have been shadowing him on the power-play 15 years ago.

I have never been able to understand why teams allowed him to constantly beat them time after time the same way every time, with a one-timer from the top of the circles on the power-play.

NHL coaches should have had a man on him at all times while he was on the power-play.

I would have taken my chances with a 4-on-3 disadvantage if it meant I designated 1 player to cover Ovechkin like a glove, rather than allow him to beat my team the exact same way every time.

0 fer again tonight.

At what point do they demote OV? Or can they even demote him? Have to think the PP may be better with him playing a fresh minute rather than his full 2 and standing in one spot for the majority of it.

Paces can change. A two goal game, or even more than a two goal game, can change a pace.

But right now, Ovechkin is on pace for 14 goals this season.

He has 5 goals after 29 games.

LOL  man, it’s unbelievable that night after night the Capitals pick up 2 points while OV gets another goose egg for goal scoring… the hilarity only intensifies when an Ovechkin fan chimes in to say that he cares more about winning than getting goals, after a career of firing more rubber at the net than any player before.

The "cares more about winning than getting goals" narrative only really works if he is focussing on playing shut-down defense or something, which he isn't doing.

Also, scoring goals helps a team win.

I'm pretty damn shocked that his cold streak has continued this long. I'm still confident he hits 20 but not so sure about 30. That being said, things can change very quickly. Even with how bad he's been so far this year it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him score 15 in his next 20 games or some other hot streak that puts him back on pace for 30-40ish. He'll still get the record but maybe not next season.
