The Maple Leafs have to be patient with Marner.

Cannot expect too much from him this season.

Should not rely on him for anything, unless he improves his game.

Krypreos was right about one thing, there are few "go-to" guys on the roster ahead of him.

He's a 20 year old that is apparently under performing and has 15 points in 23 games. We're harping on him because he isn't top 10 in league scoring.. Ya typical

That play in the first period, kind of sums up Marner's sophomore jink season.

Along the boards, just inside the blueline in his own zone, with no pressure on him, he gives up the puck in a REAL BAD giveaway.

Uh-oh!

Montreal looks like it will have a great chance. One pass ... then a second ... by now the chance does not seem so great ... a third pass ...

By the third pass, they passed away that chance to do something off the giveaway. With all the passing, everyone on the Leafs had chance to get back into position, the surprise factor of the giveaway was gone, and Montreal passed it into the corner.

Marner does too much of that. The pass.

Just shoot it on net.

I don't think coach really likes him.

If Marner starts to play the way the coach would like him to play, such as shoot the puck, I think we will hear hardly any complaints about Marner.

Play the right way.

Marner got 2 points in garbage time in the St.Louis game. He got 2 points in garbage time in yesterday's game. Is that playing the right way? I don't know. Is the coach impressed. I don't know.

Hainsey has more points than Gardiner right now, should I continue?

There is no question every coach likes him. He is an elite skilled player with a strong work ethic. He just needs to clean up his game a bit. The last couple weeks, he is starting to look more like himself.
Honestly if this is Marner in a slump, than we have a superstar on our hands.
15 points in 23 games in a sophmore slump? Imagine how amazing he will be when he starts playing better.

This just reads like a guy who can't find a way to admit someone is playing well. Babs LOVES Marner.

Haha someone is upset Marner is playing great now.
He is a great talent and a star.
My thinking(just like anyone with no bias) is that he will continue to look awesome. 2 assists away Bozak. Hmmm interesting
Bozak had two assists away from Marner too lol.

Two goals!

Let's face an uncomfortable question.

Marner is a good player. Leafs are a good team.

What if Marner is on a bad team like Montreal, would he have all those assists? Bad teams can't score, like Montreal.

Bad teams can't score, like Montreal.

I think that rhymes!

So which is it? Is Marner good because the Leafs are good or are the Leafs good because Marner is good?

Regarding all these 'what ifs', what if my grandmother had wheels? She'd be a bicycle, right?

Zero value post.

Marner has looked absolute garbage for majority of the season yet is still on pace for 60 points. Which means he can easily finish with 70 as he keeps shaking off that excess weight he put on and get his stride back.

This guy knows how to put up points. It's what he does. Will easily become a star player. Can't believe this is even a thread.

As for the Montreal comment, he would most likely be with Pacioretty and setting up Weber for bombs on the PP and finish leading their team in scoring.

Wow, your grandma's in good shape then, if she had wheels my grandma would be a bus. :)

Seriously though, a lot of zero value posts ITT, here's a case in point:

How'd those look for the W? So much more to playoff hockey than points.

Anyhow, "star" is a subjective term. If Marner isn't a star today then he's well on his way to being one. JMHO, I love the kid and I don't think it's out of the question that he ends up being the 2nd best player from that draft, yes better than Eichel.

You get much closer to a proper evaluation of a players performance by looking at points, than you do by looking at wins.
Only thing that counts are Ws. What is a players contribution to the W. Points with no other player impact means nothing which is why run and gun never works.

You mean like when someone makes a ton of posts but contributes nothing to the discussion?

I agree with the theory. Marner's a very good player though and his contribution is substantial.

Because you say so. Which means nothing.

Minus Mitch, can I ask you something? Why? Why did you make an account with the sole purpose of bashing Marner? I’m trying to figure out the motive but I can’t really. We’re you just mad that the majority of this board had a different opinion on Marner than you?
