The only reason to trade one of them at this point in the offseason is to clear space for the Sandin extension.

Holl likely is the one delt to help clear space + it's been reported the explored a mid season trade for him this past year.

Kerfoot will likely finish his contract with the Leafs.

Ideally, they should be looking to move Muzzin. He gives them a lot more flexibility and I don't trust him to stay healthy and contribute at a $5 million level. The 2nd best option would be to move Kerfoot, although that would make the forward depth look pretty weak. Moving Holl does pretty much nothing for the team. He only makes 2 million a year and can slot in to the top 4. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an extension

Yes. There's a huge market for them. But we love them.
There are very few teams left that can take on Kerfoots 3.5, and most of the teams that have the space, are likely on his NTC. Hard to see Kefoot or Holl being traded for any value with cap space at a premium, many players left in UFA, and many teams desperate to clear cap room

I think it would take more than that though, short of a 20 man roster or we start with some LTIR.

Kerfoot seems like the odd man out. AM JT Jarn Kampf down the middle isn't so bad, but wingers are pretty suspect, and ideally we would have a winger that can reliably move to center.

Stasny would have been a great fit at the price the canes got him

Leaning towards Holl being gone and Kerfoot remaining. While I see a lot of forwards, I'm not certain of that obvious replacement for Kerfoot in the top six. Conversely, assuming the idea is to eventually re-sign Sandin...

I'm curious to see if Nick Kypreos' left field prediction the Leafs will LTIR someone comes true in the next two weeks. That would allow them to keep their darling Holl and Kerfoot, sign Sandin and add little random something extra at the end of free agency. Kicks things down the road.

Who is the candidate?

The Fan Morning Show speculated Muzzin, which would be my guess too. If he’s not healthy, he would represent the biggest cap savings, alleviate some left side defensive log jam, and come back later in the season.

I think Kerfoot is moved and Holl starts the season with the team if Sandin holds out, otherwise if Sandin signs by training camp he'll be traded as well.

Holl should, apparently he does what he’s asked to do well enough for the coaches. And they need D.

Kerfoot’s cap space might be more valuable than his play.

Kypreos did say he was saving the name for when he's on his show. It sounded like it was said in jest but now I'll listen the first day he's back.

Why would they have not signed Sandin by now if that's the case though

Wouldn't you lose leverage if he knows you're desperate for a LD

If that's true that is a huge blow to the defence.

Fact is, despite all the people who wanted Kerfoot gone, he's still a useful forward and it was pretty obvious that the Leafs weren't just going to give him away. Holl, on the other hand... The only reason I can think of for them not moving Holl is because they don't want the 6th D-man to end up being Jamie Benn, who really should be a #7...

Of course they will be on the team. Dubas is running it back again with a few minor tweaks and equally as bad goal tending

Darn was hoping you were kipper

But it doesn't really make sense that we'd ltir Muzzin without signing Sandin first basically.

Unless it's Murray which would be kind of hilarious
Naw, but Murray will be on it a few weeks into the season

Just thinking out loud but, I would imagine Muzzin would go on LTIR after physicals at training camp. Sandin is signed to some $2 million-ish deal (back pocket deal is negotiated), and Muzzin stays on LTIR till the current cap overage ($1.5 million) + Sandin's salary is covered off. If it's something in the neighbourhood of $3.5 million, that would be 62.5% of Muzzin's salary, so I guess that would mean he misses about 50 games.

If they need to activate Muzzin sooner, a Holl or Kerfoot or something else might shake loose earlier than that. Someone double check the math and CBA.

I think Kerfoot will be the odd man out, but they need to see if some of the young guys can be in the Show.
