Borgen f***ing blows bro. He’s literally, a bigger and quicker Lindgren. No puck skills. I guess he’s fine as a third pairing guy with Jones? I think my issue isn’t necessarily the player, but rather seeing pizza bitch go full potato right before Xmas with this being the main return for Kakko.
I don't know what to make of Borgen as a Ranger yet really because two games is too early to decide anything, good or bad. Period. Especially on a team that's already such a mess.
But he reminds me of Mikkola, who found a fit on a good team, in Florida. Upside is a useful depth guy, in that mold? If the team doesn't implode further, maybe we'll see it.
Mikkola always had a pretty decent statistical backing of driving shots, goals, and chances away from his own net.I don't know what to make of Borgen as a Ranger yet really because two games is too early to decide anything, good or bad. Period. Especially on a team that's already such a mess.

If he plays like this, that’s more than reasonable for #4-5 RHD, who’s physical, defensively responsible and has a game that can play in the playoffs. Especially with a rising cap it’s pretty low risk even if he ends up on the third pair.I said this before but he plays a simple effective game. He’s unlikely to break the bank on his next deal too. Very likely is going to make less than Kakko and he likely gets a 4-5 year deal at somewhere in the mid-3’s, maybe high 3’s.
You guys think he might be the Stralman diamond in the rough type that we've been missing?
I don't have an answer to your question, but I do want to add that projections are going to be tough right now because with the cap going up a good amount next season, and possibly considerably more over the next couple of seasons, it's possible that salaries jump. So until we start seeing some signings it will be hard to know for sure. All it takes is one team to go off the rails and it screws up the whole market.Anyone know realistically what it would take to sign him ?
I forget that site that usually has RFA and UFA salary projections
He has really opened some eyes. A month ago some people on HF spoke of him as a throw in or an afterthought. Glad he is making an impact.I don't have an answer to your question, but I do want to add that projections are going to be tough right now because with the cap going up a good amount next season, and possibly considerably more over the next couple of seasons, it's possible that salaries jump. My hope for Borgen is like 3Y/12M or something but I literally have no idea at this point. Someone could offer him $5 or more if the market got crazy.
say more. there's a wide swath of opinions on him here. LokiDog is with you - thinks he's strictly a 3rd pairing guy. Snowblind sees him easily as a 2nd pair.Don’t sign him. Disaster written all over it
Don't worry. It's not out of realm of possibility for Drury and management to knowingly let go a good thing in pursuit of something elseDon’t sign him. Disaster written all over it
He’s fine. He’s not great and I don’t think he’ll age well. Everyone we extend turns to shit immediately.say more. there's a wide swath of opinions on him here. LokiDog is with you - thinks he's strictly a 3rd pairing guy. Snowblind sees him easily as a 2nd pair.
What's a fair contract for Borgen and what's a likely contract?
Walker got 6x3.6 in a no tax state. Borgen getting 5x3.75 (with a 15 team no trade moving to 8 in his last two years) would be fair imo. He's a tweezer 2nd/3rd pair guy but adds a nice physical element and he can skate.
Unfortunately i think NYR would sign him to 4x5mm with more aggressive clauses. They have shown themselves to be victims of sunk cost fallacy. They traded Kakko for him, they need to sign him - to pay him as if he's worth more is a perverse justification for the trade. That's how this team operates.
With the cap going up, is that extra 1.5mm a backbreaker? In a vacuum, no. But in the context of what Mika Shesterkin are making, very possibly a problem.
I just wonder what the plan is on the right side if they do re-sign Borgen. Is Schneider a 3rd pair D for the foreseeable future? Is Schneider moving to the other side? It would complicate things a bit.
this is all well and good, but it's not about deployment (outside of the Lindgren dilemma). it's about cap allotment. Who is getting paid?Is it possible people are making too much about the pairings order? I kind of see Lavi's logic. He is not trying to put the best D only on the top. He is trying to find the best matchups and even out the pairings so that we do not have sucky pairings. He may think that KAM is better than Lindy or Schneider is better than Borgs but he wants his pairings to have some balance.
