Pens come back in the third to win 6-4. Katchouk with 4 goals (one EN). Broz with a goal. Koivunen and Ponomarev both had 1 assist.
Scoring five goals in the 3rd period for the baby pens is very impressive. Katchouk does have over 170 games played in the NHL, but I really didn't know anything about him till he was signed with WBS.

Starting to wonder if this group of prospects aren’t so much the future as they are the next X generation.

But let me ask you something, were any of them lottery picks? No
Did we sell off 1st rounders as if we were trying to reach a quota year after year? Well, yes.
The best pieces are secondary pieces, certainly not franchise players.
That's why winning these games now is so infuriating!
We need to bottom out in order to get high end core players.
Not a Sid or Geno exactly, but some really good pieces.
The best pieces we currently have could be Bryan Rust level, not bad, but it's a start.

I’m with you.

I’m thinking some of the young guys might be the ones that help us bottom out.

These guys might end up being our Kris Beech, Micheal Sivek, Milan Kraft types. Then you might get one Orpik out of it that actually goes on to play with the next generation.

I think Pickering will be a nice piece down the road. Our 2hd rounders this year Brunicke and Howe look promising but it's very early in the process. Our organizational quality and depth has certainly improved, but there's a long way to go. We've only just begun. Blom, Murashov and McGroarty could be fairly important players as well. There are some good pieces, even if most of the others not mentioned don't pan out. We need to hit on our 1st rounders and build down the middle.

and he's on a far worse team. imo
He also has had more seasoning, more experience and physically has matured a year. Most of the guys he's playing against are now younger than he is. I'm glad we made that trade but to be clear neither are exactly lighting it up. Although Rutger has been better of late.

Just looking at yearly totals to judge McGroarty (and Yager, for that matter) is just mind numbingly lazy. McGroarty struggled to adjust to the pro game to start the year, but has really hit his stride and is allegedly playing great according to the WBS coach. His production has also really ramped up since his rough start. Yager was on a bad team to start the year and is now on a better team, his production last year was inflated from being on a monster team so this sort of plateauing isn't unexpected. The same thing has happened this year with Tanner Howe, he's been on fire since going from Regina to Calgary.

Both guys are B+ prospects and I'd still take McGroarty over Yager, mostly based on how safe of a prospect McGroarty is. I think the two have similar upsides (both top-6 complementary players), but McGroarty seems like a guaranteed NHLer while Yager might not pan out. That's not saying Yager has a huge bust risk, I just think McGroarty's bust risk is lower.
