Yeah there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to play in this league with that skating. Plenty of other guys make it work with similar ability. He’s not Hayes, Bonino slow.

MgGroaty pacing for 40 points in 70 games now, I'd say that's a win given his rough start to the season. Koivunen at almost a PPG and 2nd in the AHL for rookie scoring. Broz pacing for 50 points in 70 games and Pono at almost a PPG after his injuries and call up. A solid year for the Baby Pens forward prospects.

He obviously wasn’t ready for the pace. Guys have succeeded with worse skating than his. Like I said above, if he doesn’t increase production next year I’ll be worried.

It honestly makes no sense why one of those young forwards isn’t up right now.

It seems like certain lines get hot and carry the offense and then other lines do so it was only a matter of time before it was McGroarty’s turn.

That seemed to be the case last season too with the baby Pens. Also interesting that Pitlick put up more offense when he went to Rockford and Hinostroza is producing better in Milwaukee than he did with the baby Pens so I think it’s a product of rolling the lines very evenly, and in mixed situations, and mixing up the PP units because the primary goal is developing, winning secondary. Frequently even the baby Pens “4th” line will be all guys with NHL experience. Not just for development but also the AHL schedule having so many back-to-backs, you don’t really want to have a 1st line and a 4th line quite like you’d expect to see in the NHL.

McGroarty started off with ONE point over his first 12 games there. Since then he's accumulated Five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 17 games. After assimilating he's been nearly a point per game player.

Therefore the pace he was on is skewed because of an abysmal start. For a 20 yr old he's doing just fine.

Not sure why people focus on McG's skating, I believe he's more of a power forward type. He should work on skating but focus on his core strength. He'll live and die by going to the net and staying there.
