Jets will be up against the cap next year so unlikely that they would want to take on the extra player unless they see a fit for him.
Last year we did our 1st and Eric Foley for Stastny and that was a great fit.
I'm not sure the Jets would go the equivalent of that high for Stall.
If another move isn't worked out and Stall was still around for the 1st or a 2nd and a decent prospect then maybe?
Minny is still in the hunt though so makes it tough for them to sell off the assets.
Saint Louis was no more than 3 points out of the playoffs when they sold Stastny last year to Winnipeg... And missed the playoffs by 1 point, holding ALL tie-breakers against Colorado.
If Minnesota feels they're out of contention with the Koivu injury, Staal is available regardless of their current position in the standings.
That said, because Minnesota is down a centre for the season, and isn't deep down the middle to begin with - I highly doubt that they'll be trading Staal. They still need to ice a competitive team, even if it's not expected to win often.
It's not like Minnesota is playing 2 centres on the wing like St Louis is with Thomas and Schenn (ROR, Bozak, Sundqvist and Barbashev down the middle). They shut out the Tampa with this lineup, riding Winnington for the 1-0 W.
They need to ice a competitive team in a year when they may not expect to make the playoffs, let alone do anything worthwhile once there?Saint Louis was no more than 3 points out of the playoffs when they sold Stastny last year to Winnipeg... Not selling Staal and missing the playoffs is going to alienate fans more than selling him would.I'd be mind-blown to see Staal moved unless a center was coming back.
No GM is going to make a move like selling their 1C, when they're already missing their 2C to injury. They have tickets to sell (its a business, with the interest of making money) and nobody to fill in for what will be both 1 & 2C roles.
I expect Minnesota to miss the playoffs by a narrow margin, but as of today, they're the WC1 with a 2+ point buffer on those chasing them, own the ROW tie-breaker advantage and only Colorado holds a game in hand of the teams chasing. Selling off Staal (again without a center coming back in that trade or another different one) isn't happening because of circumstances and need to not alienate fans.
@Sysreq
You've said a number of goofy things so far in this thread, but this has to be the winner. I haven't finished reading it all yet, but I dunno how you top this.Try connor and a 2nd
It's not impossible that, because of the number of players available right now, if Fenton times a Staal trade poorly that sort of offer is the best he'll see. If that happens and Staal's as amenable to an extension in Minnesota as it sounds, we should just keep him and sign him.how does the flames second rounder + a b-level prospect or two for E. Staal sound from Isles perspective .
Rather have Coyle, personally.Coyle for danton and a 3rd round pick?
Basically the only one you've got a problem with is Dubnyk then? I dunno, starting goalies are a mystery box as to what they will return.
Granlund would have to get a high end prospect back in a trade like that and have the 1st be at least top 20. 65-70 pt players rarely get traded for unknowns.
Coyle, what are you talking about 1st+top 6 center? I said 1st+, middle 6 center. Meaning, either a 1st+ or a middle 6 center. Not both.
Spurgeon = $5.1
Coyle = $3.2
Brodin = $4.2
$5.1 + $3.2 + $4.2 = $12.5
You said it, not me.
Start with Nylander, then add nothing, then send message.
It seems some of our fans genuinely think those two are so good that we cant be a bottom 5 team with them. It's kind of cuteI know its stupid for me to even ask but why cant the wild rebuild with parise and suter contracts? who cares if they are a cap hit of 15mil. doesnt a rebuild mean we trade players get younger and suck who dont need cap. if they dont like it ask for a trade and get the wild to retain. But for people who say the wild cant rebuild because of these 2 contracts i just dont get why.
I don't like it personally, but I tend to be more pro-Coyle than a lot of Wild fans. I think you'd find a fair number of takers on here; it's not a bad offer.Would something like 1st + Milano for Coyle work?
So you want me to fill in the players . I will bite
Lucic 15 % retained + Nurse + Spooner + 1st + Bear + 2nd 2020 + 1st 2021 + Yamamoto
Money works but you take on 2 cap dumps but get a load of futures . We are screw because of Chia . Got nothing but cap dumps and futures to offer
Ideally it'd be a 1st plus something like a 2nd or a 3rd, but with Boston I could see Fenton liking one of the center prospects in lieu of the 1st. If we're talking like a 2nd and a castoff though I'd rather just keep him and make the extension easy.If the wheels fall off over the next two weeks what would Minny take from Boston for Staal?
As a 3c they’d be pretty set up the middle for the PO’s
I’d do 1st + forbasckaIf the wheels fall off over the next two weeks what would Minny take from Boston for Staal?

for your 29 year old dman? yeah no thanks
Ya no idea if the Bruins would trade their 1st this year. I’d lean towards no unless it was for a Stone extended.Ideally it'd be a 1st plus something like a 2nd or a 3rd, but with Boston I could see Fenton liking one of the center prospects in lieu of the 1st. Id do it, but I understand why others wouldn't. I don't think we'd get an offer significantly better than yoursWould something like 1st + Milano for Coyle work?
