One of the Heidgt Haight group had 4 points the other day. I get confused between the two because every update I see is one of the two scoring a ton of points and making good creative plays.

Hunter Haight:
8-5-6-11

Riley Heidt
10-7-13-20

Based on that I'd guess Heidt, but really it could be either of them. Those stats for Heidt are pretty damned impressive, though.

For reference, Heidt is tied for 5th in the WHL in scoring. Of the 4 guys ahead of him, 3 are on his team. You have to go down to the 9th highest scorer on his team to find a guy that isn't at point-per-game pace. That is a absurd offense they have. Simply silly. I have no idea how to even value Heidt's offensive contribution because of it.

Heidt is only the 4th leading scorer on his team, or was last time i looked. Prince George is loaded.

Ha, BH beat me to it. I still don't get what the scouts didn't like about his game. He's listed at 5'11", 182, which isn't big but is bigger than players like Benson, Crystal, and the like. Everything i saw in camp looked good...no red flags to his game...quite the opposite, really.

I saw one major red flag with a complete lack of defensive effort during camp, but otherwise he was great. The play did stick out to me immediately though, basically lost the puck at the blue line, made a half hearted stick check on a guy and let him blow by without moving his feet at all then went to bench in the middle of an odd man rush he caused and could have hindered. The kind of thing a coach and scout would absolutely hard ding someone for.

I might've seen the same thing once or twice, but i also noticed that wasn't present later on, especially when he was put together with Walker and Haight. Either a coach told him that won't fly, or it was a peer pressure thing.

IMO, you always make allowances for gifted offensive players when it comes to defense, in just about any sport. All coaches talk about wanting two way play, but if you have a guy who is able to put the puck in the net more than most then you don't expect him to be scrapping in the corners, backchecking, or blocking shots as much as some others. It's a question of where to put your energy. High scorers are a rare commodity, so you give them a bit more rope.
The question, to me, is whether Heidt can be a high scorer in the NHL. It's a long way from the WHL to the NHL, but you can say that about any WHL prospect.

I was a really big fan of Heidt at camp. Looked like he was dictating play in the offensive zone, which is pretty impressive for a just drafted 18 year old. Will he be eligible to play in the AHL next season, or does he have to go back to the WHL again? I forget how that works. Regardless, I think he's got at least 2-3 years before he's in the NHL full time, which should give him time to work out some of the shortcomings.

But I'd already put him on the same level as Ohgren/Khusnutdinov on our prospect list.

Pretty sure it's CHL or NHL.

Doesn't turn 20 until after December 31, 2024.

Isn't it 20 years by that date or 4 years of junior hockey?

This is his Heidt's 4th year in WHL, but he only played 22 games in 2020-21. Not sure if that counts?

At this rate he's going to score 200 points in the WHL next season
.

The way it usually works in junior is that this team will age out, so the season after will be really weak. Having said that, Prince George have a 2024 draftee called Perascak who is killing it right now. I don't know if he can keep it up, but if he can he will rocket up the draft rankings boards

I noticed him too. Just looking at the +/- of their top scorers, it looks like he's playing on a line with Becher and Funk, and Heidt is on another line, so I wonder how much of his actual production is him driving anything versus his overage linemates driving play.

The 20-21 season was also shortened to 24 games. So I would assume that would count as a season. If I was Minnesota I'd be pushing to get Heidt into the AHL as soon as possible.

From the sounds of it, Haight is the more well-rounded of the two. Despite Heidt's point production, I'm more excited about Haight.

Heidt is going to produce, he's going to be a very good junior player so point production for me is just meeting expectations, what I hope happens when I next watch him in the next prospect camp is that he's faster and sturdier on his skates (like how Rossi got tougher). That'll translate his production into the pro level.

Haight hasn't yet put together a consistent great offensive season yet so he's the guy who will wow me with point production bc thus far, he's been all tools, no toolbox. But he's on a great start atm.

i think haight was an over ager maybe so that might be why hes more well rounded? either way glad to see both playing well.
They are almost exactly a year apart. 4/4/04 for Hunter Haight and 3/25/05 for Riley Heidt.

Hunter was better defensively at this same point last year, he was pegged as a two way center as early as the CHL draft I believe, so he also has some reputation.

Can confirm - Haight has a more mature game than Heidt. Heidt is definitely a PP specialist who has great offensive skills but doesn't always play hard in his own zone. Heidt did play harder/backcheck more in prospects camp and Wild exhibitions as noted earlier.

I think Haight has better wheels thus far, so the skating and overall game excite me more.

Noticed Yurov hasn’t played the last couple games. Hurt or shenanigans?
