Duhaime and Hartman will/are practicing with the team. Barring setbacks, they will be brought back, giving them 14 forwards. I think Walker is the only one who can be sent down and not go through waivers.
I get that... but I can't see Boldy having any sort of reaction after (maybe) losing walker when he's already dealt with losing Fiala.

Would Hartman not be a better player than Walker?

Hartman is more polished than Walker as a player, for sure. I don't really like the idea of two of Duhaime, Freddy G, Hartman, or Steel on the same line with Boldy.

Walker has 2 NHL (and 21 AHL) games and I would like to see more of him before forming an opinion of him. All I can really say now is that he doesn't look lost on NHL ice.

I do think Walker brings that (Zucker type) speed element that makes him a 2nd transition game threat/option for the Boldy line. I don't know (limited sample size) if he has the awareness/puck skills to be a factor in the scoring.

Would Hartman not be a better player than Walker?
Different type. Hartman is far grittier, tougher, stronger, better defensively...probably better shot. He's a grinder, or was till last year. It's too soon to say what Walker might be in the NHL(if he is anything at all), but there is a possibility that he is better offensively, with better handles, acceleration, and imagination.

Hartman had the one outlier year last year...if he turns out to be a perennial 30+ goalscorer i'll have to change my tune.

With Gaudreau already handling the defensive chores on the 3rd line, I think it's possible that Walker can be a poor man's Fiala for Boldy. Boldy needs someone who is on the same wavelength as him offensively, like Fiala was. Not saying that Walker is anything as good, but especially if he plays on the wing, he can be more of an offensive, creative player than a dump and chaser.

He’s been close to a ppg player after starting really slow. Should have a great WJC

When Lekkerimaki and Ostlund got hurt, he got moved up the lineup and immediately started to produce. Been playing 1st line lately.

No he sucks...the Wild don't need a two-way 6'1 200lbs goal scoring forward that plays wing and center, and was captain for his country u18 team.

Positivity is only allowed in the positivity thread.

If you wanna play this game game I can point out that none of the characteristics you listed here mean he's a good pick, and he's doing all this in just Allsvenskan, not the SHL.

Anyone who knows me on these boards knows prospects/draft is my passion - so you will never ever see me say a prospect is a surefire thing - either succeed or bust. That is not how prospects work. But tools matter. You draft the tools, you spend the next few years developing them and putting them together.

Being big/strong? We see how that can make a difference with Rossi and how a guy like Greenway/Foligno can succeed despite not as much skill.
Being a two-way player (conveniently you glossed over)? Ask JEE and Boeser.
Being a goal scoring forward (also glossed over). Ask..anyone
Being a player that can play both W/C (also, ALSO glossed over)? Ask any coach.
Being a captain? Also, ask any coach that's building a team environment.

Alright, lets party. To start off my thesis, I shall set up the context

Quotes from the scouts:
Craig Button's Analysis "Solid, competitive winger who plays with skill. Uses his size and competitiveness to carve out space and create opportunities. “Hard to play against” archetype." Projection: Second Line Power Forward Comparable: Gabriel Landeskog

Corey Pronman Analysis: Calling Ohgren a goal scorer isn’t a novel observation given his stats this season, but he’s shown he can score goals in a variety of ways. He has great hands and can create offense through his skill. He generates a lot of offense around the high-percentage areas because of his strength and compete. Ohgren also has a shot that can score from range. He’s smart enough with the puck to move it well but is more of a shooter and worker than a playmaker. His skating is OK. He projects as a top-nine winger.

Thoughts on the pick: Ohgren provides legit skill, finishing ability and compete to the Wild, complementing a growing stable of prospects who combine skill and compete level. The Wild have done a good job drafting at the premium positions lately, and Ohgren gives them a highly talented winger now.

McKeens: To me, Öhgren brings the safest floor, especially if he gets stronger, but he’s no slouch as is, with a great north-south game, especially with the puck and great finishing ability to end possessions. He’s got strong awareness of linemates and makes his passes count and to be involved in 35% of his team’s offensive transitions, and maintaining control on 81% of them is an excellent combination, especially for a sample including four SHL games. The intensity he brings to the game should be a target for plenty of NHL teams, but if he starts slipping a bit, he could bring some great, safe value with good potential for upside.

FCHockey: “Ohgren is a forward that has so many different layers to his game, “He could be the puck distributor that sets up his teammates with crisp passes, but he could also execute and score himself. He plays a key role on the power play from the circles or behind the net. Ohgren has a phenomenal way of changing tempo and takes advantage of it when he challenges a defender in the offensive zone. He continuously keeps his feet going and with playmaking and smooth puckhandling he could create a chance every shift.”

-------------------------------------

Ranked 18th amongst draftees, a 19.86 average rating, picked at 19. Best junior forward player in Sweden. But is also gritty, two-way, responsible and can take faceoff. A player that won's Gold, Silver, Bronze in all leagues/tournaments he played in.

Now if none this, which I already listed before, is attractive to you as a prospect - as a team that needs goal scoring forward talent - then honestly don't know what will make you at least go "He's an okay pick".

I see him as well-rounded 2nd liner complimentary winger with a goal-scoring touch that can play both PP and PK and a player you can use up and down the line at center if need be. He needs to work on his explosiveness and adapt to the faster paced NA game. He needs at least 3 more years before seeing regular minutes.

P.S And btw, its a B-tier league, literally one league below the A-tier league of SHL. Unless SHL is a B-tier league?

Good read, appreciate your candid opinion on Ohgren and the factual updates, I appreciate the time you took!

I think he will for sure be an NHLer, and with the right development of his creativity, we could have a very excellent player. I have limited viewings of him, but he plays the game like peak Nino, though obviously against non NHL competition. I have all the time in the world for a player that can play that style of power forward and be a significant shooting threat, it does take a lot of time and work to do it at an elite NHL level though.

Getting moved up the lineup and scoring is always a good thing, and contributing with different line mates shows well too, let’s hope he continues to progress!

But as much as I cheer on the pick, thats not the say theres some things to be concerned about. I have just been leaning into positivity a bit more as an offset. But like any prospect, there are always flaws that needs to be worked on, even more glaring as you get lower in the draft selection. I really did want Kulich but I can still enjoy a solid pick at good value and interesting tools.

#1 - How will he do off the Lekkermaki/Ostlund line? He was drafted after doing so well on that trio and all are first-round picks with the other two seen with higher upside. Him doing decently last few games as they are injured is a nice sign.

#2 - His skating was the most average out of the two. But personally, from his Youtube clips, he seems 'fine'. But he really needs to keep working on the first few steps - without that initial acceleration, his ability to make himself noticeable is going to be very limited.

#3 - Can he drive a line? I think thats my biggest question mark with him. At his selection, he was not a driver but that could develop, MAYBE.

I don't think he's going to be amazing offensively unless put with Boldy (I can see those two clicking REALLY well). I could also see him pair well with JEE but are they going to score alot or focus more of defense? Would be an Evason move to put him with Gaudreau...

What I'm watching closely next is an increase in shot totals (I want to see him develop that shot if he has any chance to be a top-line player), an increase in ice time (more responsibility and experience playing against men) and how well he does in junior international tournaments (I want to see more burst and physical intensity). Because if he doesn't, he's not developing what made him interesting and could be bust.

Then 1 year of AHL, 2 years of being a staple bottom six NHLer, then hopefully starts to blossom at 23 yrs old. Unlike Lekkermaki, he has more to offer than one-dimensional flashy offense and like the JEE vs Boeser situation, where its obvious who won the draft despite stats saying the contrary
