I would have nothing against if people would change more, their opinions or even bigger than they mostly would
But of course I dont demand so in any way
But the thinking outside north american closed leagues are more profitable and also more solidarical to the rest of the world, in hockey anyhow
I see it so and will continue so

I don't think there is any question that if we were starting pro hockey from scratch, Canada could support an elite pro league.

We aren't starting from scratch. The NHL isn't going to just walk away, so teams in NHL cities, which cover the major Canadian markets, w;ould continue to exist, would get most of the attention, tv money and fans in the seats.

It may be a nice idea, but to use an old expression, you can't get there from here.

Canada is big. Sweden is not.
Has such things with population or area to do? Not necessarily as I see it
Or who knows, perhaps it feels better to more often fly to the US to play there often than only in Canada seen to not so fun climate and several other factors
Yeah i understand that also

If most canadians dont want another pro league with maybe at least 16-20 teams, with highest salaries of about 12 million dollars seen to US worth so its completely ok for me
Seen to my personal opinion
I think its a tragedy and honestly I see it as like a parody of wrongfulness, but at the same time its real wrongfulness that canadian teams has that curse nowadays, I fell so this year quite more than ever one year after 30 the latest time Habs won in 93, and it feels like a quite bad satire of reality that the sports country of origin you never know in even 50 years from now, would canadian teams win at least 3-4 stanleys again?
Hard to say

I would feel so strongly if I lived in Canada and/or were citizen there
You're not wrong. It must look idiotic to an outsider like you. And it kind of is. But for better or for worse this is the way things are set up and it is deeply entrenched. It would be hard to imagine a scenario where fans opt for another model. People are very attached to the current system.

You could even use the words Stockholm Syndrome to describe it ;)

If Nhl in its form since more than 100 years will continue as a league more than it has been a league more than that time from now also, it will be so
I havent had any larger managing positions in any companies and has never worked with any politics either
But I will continue to think as I want about all things, as I usually do

When the NHL started out, it was a CDN league, with 2 Montreal teams , Ottawa and Toronto, then some US teams were added.

The teams wouldn’t get any support and would fold like the WHA as an example.
The idea would either fail fast or never got off the ground.

There was already a thread on this in the summer, feel free to search for it and read it,

Its a type of ownhand advantage nhl has given themselves above all other leagues in north america and in the 70s the whole world, had since the 60s forced randomly selected teams of their players

To be clear - the other major level professional sports in North America also use entry draft systems. The NBA does, the NFL does, MLB does, PWHL, WNBA, CFL, MLS, even the NLL (Lacrosse). The NHL isn’t unique on this front - this is pretty much how all the North American pro team sports leagues operate.

The NHL entry draft does not prevent other leagues from having drafts and selecting players. Some players get selected in both the CFL draft and the NFL draft. The NHL wouldn’t bar any player from another pro league - it’s the money that would be the most prominent reason anyone with NHL-level talent would pursue an NHL-level-dollars career path and contract.

The problem is though
What will happen to the Nhl draft
Perhaps hockey should think more in reality more right to dissolve drafting

It can of course be considered really fun the thing with and mood with the draft, I agree with that
But is it really morally right
No, I guess not
Every pro league in NA uses the draft model.

But I anyway see it that drafts in any type of league will be or work in reality as a kind of authoritarian type of thing or tradition who in the way it actually works more or less works like a demanding factor to get players from other teams anywhere to so to say closed leagues
I understand the system in both Canada and the US, but it works in reality like an empire for the rest of the teams either in just US and/or Canada or like the major leagues in the rest of the world
Players arent in the most true word forced to play for a team after being drafted
But sooner or later the league will have I think quite big expectations to see that it should be so anyhow
But yes of course :)
It hasnt with forcing anyone against their will to do, even though the teams can or would be disappointed sometimes
if the affair wouldnt go to shore

They already tried this with a competing pro league. It was called the WHA. They're not around no more, and the best Canadian clubs from there went to the NHL afterwards for a reason.

Small town senior AAA hockey and the eventual Allan Cup championship was basically this. Leagues were the divisions, ending with the playoffs, provincials and Allan Cup Tournament.

Would not want to see a Canadian League per se. It would be like having the CFL play while the NFL is underway. I can hear the echoes of “who cares” from Nanaimo to Gander.

Yes,
in an fact smaller sport internationally like hockey it unfortunatly perhaps will be so in a not so long future…
For me it seems sad because it my favorite team sport and my fav sport together with track & field
But I like to discuss it though
maybe Im naive
But have nothing against to be either 😄

Americans don’t want relegation. We already have minor leagues. It may work in soccer but things are different across the Atlantic. How would that even work? Send down the Blackhawks who have been shit for 5+ years for the Hershey Bears?

What euro’s need to understand is the difference between NA sports and the various soccer leagues in Europe is that all of the talent for hockey, baseball, football, and basketball is concentrated here in the NA sports leagues. All the best players play EXCLUSIVELY in the NHL, MLB, NFL, and NBA.

It’s been this way for 50+ years now and will never change. These leagues are established and settled. If you’re one of the best athletes in the world at your sport you’re only playing in the respective NA Pro league. Good ol’ Canadian boy Connor Bedard wouldn’t leave the NHL to go play for the Vancouver Moose Humpers in the Hockey Canada League brought to you by Tim Hortons. I doubt he’d do it even if they offered him $20 million a year.

That may happen for Caitlin Clark with that weird 3v3 league but that’s because the WNBA is basically a pro-am league and the players are poorly paid.

Another example of close minded euro’s wondering why everything isn’t like how they do it. Ironic considering the stereotypes of close minded Americans, this sort of thinking often pops up. Bad soccer-based ideas that no NA sports fan would touch with a 100ft pole.

A such league would not harm NHL anyhow, or I dont care. Potential competition with nhl or not I believe in things that I see as good
Of course I think NHL still will be league with all canadian teams in for long time if they want to
