Except Nhl…

Here in Sweden we have division systems for perhaps every team sport where 2-4 teams can go up/down between all divisions in the countries systems like almost all other countries in the eorld in many sports
Who knows if that can be a solution to Canada’s problems to win championship titles nowadays in Canadas/United states first tier ice hockey league
All teams who plays in at least the first or top division could have regular salaries as good hockey players is regarded to have

Its normal for a country to have own pro leagues in the most sports
Canada has maybe one or two leagues with quite few teams with about just 6-10 who can be considered pro leagues for men beside NHL then
Think I’ve read

I think its both awkward and painful infact unfortunatly too see that canadian teams can not win stanley cup anymore……

How many teams you think in a Canadian pro league? That's the first thought. NHL not strong enough league? Second thought. Seven teams from Canada in the NHL right now. Third thought.

If most canadians dont want another pro league with maybe at least 16-20 teams, with highest salaries of about 12 million dollars seen to US worth so its completely ok for me
Seen to my personal opinion
I think its a tragedy and honestly I see it as like a parody of wrongfulness, but at the same time its real wrongfulness that canadian teams has that curse nowadays, I fell so this year quite more than ever one year after 30 the latest time Habs won in 93, and it feels like a quite bad satire of reality that the sports country of origin you never know in even 50 years from now, would canadian teams win at least 3-4 stanleys again?
Hard to say

I would feel so strongly if I lived in Canada and/or were citizen there

Yeah, no thanks.

The whole "Canadian team" thing isn't real. Sure, when we watch Canadian sports media, there's a lot of focus on those 7 teams.

But as far as winning is concerned, if Ottawa doesn't win, I really couldn't care less who does.

As it stands, I get to watch the lion's share of the world's hockey talent on a regular basis, including in person, so why would I want to give that up?

The last thing we need is a CFL for hockey. I'd say the NFL is at least if not more popular in Canada anyway.

We don't employ the European sports club model for our professional sports here in North America. It's just not part of our culture.

When it comes to national pride, that's what Team Canada is for. The NHL is about city pride.

Perhaps it doesnt matter for people who lives in Ottawa Toronto Vancouver Winnipeg who hasnt even won the Stanley cup champs or it were very long ago now for Toronto now unfortunatly, if they don’t do it in so many years either from now it would feel somewhat sad or strange for me
I think Winnipeg Ottawa Vancouver and Edmonton are my favorite teams of the canadian beside the other 3
Well, can say it would feel I guess also very strange if the Canucks hasnt won in lesser than 10 years, they have 3 finals since the 80s also and has been really long in Nhl now without the trophy and championship win

The largest leagues in Europe beside KHL has maybe 16, perhaps the Czech, I doubt the finnish has
So maybe at most 25 or same amount as NHL today in fact would be possible than
honestly, why not
Ok, I havent bern in Canada or either have got a really good picture of how much canadian people feel like americans then in fact. Guess its not like jealousy, perhaps more the better in so case , but perhaps no other country in the world really has as similar feelings in such ways to another country than their neighbour than canadisn people
But yeah ok, mexicans then i guess

In general, I agree with you. However, the one part I disagree with you on is the bit about the NHL being about city pride. I'd argue that fo a lot of fans, it's simply about team pride. There are many fans who do not live in the city where their team is located, so while t to ey may have a strong connection with a team they may have little or no connection to the city that team calls home.

That is one weird thing about our system for sure, as the years go on we are seeing entire lifetimes go by where many fans never see their favourite NHL team win the Stanley Cup. There are people in Toronto, Vancouver, Buffalo, etc. who were born, got married, had children and are now entering their golden years without ever seeing a championship. And the number of cities on that list will only grow over time. But no one seems to mind this, though.

I mean, nothing is guaranteed in professional sports but to me it kind of kills the fun a bit when your team never actually wins it all. In my case, they've never even really come close - just one conference final appearance where they were quickly dispatched.

That’s fair.

I was a Rangers fan way back before the Sens were around. I’d argue that it’s not quite the same but that’s just me.

A such league would not harm NHL anyhow, or I dont care. Potential competition with nhl or not I believe in things that I see as good
Of course I think NHL still will be league with all canadian teams in for long time if they want to
You’re the only one that thinks this.

It all comes down to money. Unfortunately the US is significantly wealthier and a significantly better place to be wealthy which means the talent will flow to the US just like with everything else (at least until that situation changes). Unfortunately that also means that leveling the playing field is also impossible because there is no way that teams are going to agree penalize American teams and players to level out structural advantages like lower taxes, better weather, etc.

The only way I can see to leveling the playing field would have to be a player negotiated item in the CBA but I wouldn't hold my breath for that to help Canada in any real way.

Yeah and I dont understand why, for me normal or decent opinions seems really strange
There are freedom of speech in normal countries too and over the web to such countries too

Therefore im satisfied about what I have for opinions otherwise

In NBA there are much migher salaries than NHL also, with quite same attendance numbers
"In 2014, the NBA signed a nine-year television deal with ABC/ESPN and TNT that generates annual league television revenues of $2.66 billion beginning with the 2016–17 season, while the NHL earns $625 million annually from seven-year contracts signed in 2021 with ESPN and Turner Sports to last until the 2027–28 season."

What's your excuse?
It’s called the OHL, except the OHL also exists and would also be a competitor for this league.

This is where the conversation ends from anyone willing to take a crack at this idea.

Junior hockey is still a big deal, and any market willing to take a crack at the new league would get dunked on by junior IMO.

Realistically, there probably should be a CFL/CanPL style hockey league in Canada, but it's just never going to happen. The barrier to entry is too big now.

The (ongoing) death of Senior Hockey post-pandemic is really tough to see too for small towns.

The only way it happens is if a broadcaster subsidizes an existing league to try and generate TV viewers the same way TSN did for curling and CFL - But the CFL is summer/fall, curling is afternoons/daytime filler and this theoretical league would be up against every other hockey league already existing.

Where are these teams getting the money to pay a player $12 million. Certain not fro fans and attendance, or big TV money, they aren’t getting any of those.

Not one team would have the money to pay that, if they did, they would soon fold.
We’ve already lived this scenario out, didn’t last.
Apparently there is no convincing the one person that thinks otherwise though.

If TV companies show more interests there will be more money to all the teams in a league they will sponsor
No one can in reality with 100 perc guarantee some things
Or I just or mostly want to be positive in ways I like, its not really ethically wrong or obnoxious to have some type of opinions in most subjects

The TV money will go to the NHL, just like it did last time. Fans support will be junior hockey numbers, at best,
Fans aren’t paying money to see an inferior product.

Is Sweden paying their SHL players 12 million, no they are not.

Why would it work, when already failed before.

It doesnt need to be inferior if the idea and investment is managed well
Or who knows in all cases tho…
Imo Canadian cities deserve more attention and interests than Californian and Floridan cities with hockey nhl teams…
The sport didnt come there from

I know this world can be strange
But I don’t want to coerce myself to fit in among all groups of people
no

Could only work as an ECHL-level minor pro league, and part of the issue is the economically viable markets are pretty spread out because Canada is big geographically. With an open trade border with the U.S. and most Canadian cities being close to the U.S. border to begin with, just makes more sense, as these leagues tend to function on a lot of intra-divisional matchups with nearby cities in order to keep travel costs down. No reason other than blind nationalism why this would ever be a thing. Wouldn't expect anything more successful than this Canadian Elite Basketball League - Wikipedia which doesn't get much coverage from TSN.

It’s inferior because the best players want to play in the best league in the world.

You realize it takes about 8 hours to fly from west coast to east coast in Canada,
It’s 7500km

I like to think about new ideas
i can think of myself
I may like
If no one agrees
i sooner or later quit such
discussions
But I do not want to give in
earlier than I feel myself
I want to or can manage
to

If you somehow know ahead of time, they'll never win sure, but the chase is what makes it fun.
